Pac -12 Stanford, UCLA, Oregon State, Oregon

Big 12 - Texas, Kansas State, Oklahoma

Oregon State and Texas are generally mediocre and have benefitted greatly from weak schedules. I mean, seriously, Texas barely beat Kansas.

Outside the top 2 or maybe 3 teams in both leagues they're mediocre, whereas the upper half of the SEC could compete with pretty much anyone in college football. Alabama, Georgia, SC, Florida, LSU, and A&M are all really good football teams (although Florida's offense seems to have gone from ok to really really questionable).

Rutgers can barely win in the Big East as it is, how will they do in the Big Ten?

Probably pretty well. You seen the Big Ten recently?

I agree the SEC can compete. Florida, and SC are not good football teams. Top 20, but not that great.

Doubt it.

In the future you're most likely right, but who in the BIG would beat them this season? On probation Ohio State and...maybe Michigan or Nebraska?

That conference is just horribly down this season.

Wisconsin, maybe Mich State

Penn State would certainly give them trouble, Indiana even

lol no. It's just all across the country college football is popular.

So is NASCAR. How well do you think that would do in NYC?

Well yeah, because who in NY has been playing anybody or been nationally relevant?

That's the point. There are no big programs. Rutgers is the only program even close, and as much as you want to think it's a "brand name", it isn't. And how long have they been relevant? Hofstra had a decent program (Wayne Chrebet!!) and they got rid of their football team years ago. Schools like St. John's also got rid of their team - too expensive, too many scholarships and ZERO interest. My school had a vote - football wasn't added for the same reasons. How many pros are coming out of NYC or Northern NJ (I'm aware Ray Rice went to Rutgers) compared to states like Texas or Ohio? There's a reason.

meh, been to NYC. Not all that much to do on Saturday that you can't do anywhere else. And besides, nothing to do on Saturday morning/afternoon

You weren't with the right people. ;)

Yes they are

I guess because you think they are, they are.

I think you'd be surprised

You're one of those people that always thinks they are right, aren't you?

NASCAR =/= College Football. I don't know a single person that likes NASCAR.

Guess I just disagree. Maryland and Rutgers are pretty well known universities. Both recruit well in basketball.

Yeah, underdevelopment.

Meh. I like NYC. But it's like anywhere else on a typical night.

Rutgers is basically a New Jersey school. I think more New Yorkers watch UConn than they do Rutgers. The Football team only had a few good seasons in the Big East the past decade. They are not the powerhouse you make them out to be. Face it most of the Big East sucks for football. The Big Ten only wants the market, if they could do that without getting Rutgers they would.

Guess we'll see.

From the ESPN article:

According to Scarborough research, 11 percent of the New York City population considers themselves avid fans of college football, compared to 21 percent of the general U.S. population. That’s 73rd out of 77 markets, on a percentage basis, that Scarborough measures.

Rutgers might bring a small pocket of central New Jersey, but college football is not a New York-area sport,” Desser said. “What we’re talking about here is, is there enough interest in New York for Rutgers to get a person to change their cable carrier if that carrier won’t carry the Big Ten Network? I don’t think so. Rutgers belongs in the also mentioned category in a market that includes the Yankees and the Knicks.”

These numbers aren't going to go up just because Rutgers starts playing Michigan. It may be hard for you to believe, but it's not Ohio or Texas. They have to compete with the Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Knicks, & Nets. If the NHL ever comes back add the Rangers, Islanders, and Devils. That's not even counting college basketball - Seton Hall, St. Johns, Rutgers, and Syracuse (not near the city, but their alumni are all over the tri-state area).

It's always been a problem in NY - we have so many options, and because there isn't that 1 huge program (and, frankly there never will be) to take interest away, they are always going to be on the outside looking in.

I live in Texas now and it's a completely different world - starting with high school. High school football isn't the phenomenon in NY as it is in other areas. Where I'm from Lacrosse is miles more popular than football in high school.

and you don't think the Big Ten realized that?

You think everybody is just dumb and making a huge mistake here and that this hasn't been thought and/or planned out?

You're making the mistake here and looking short term, not long term.

That 11% is growth potential. Not a limiting factor.

A little something for MacDawg. It looks like somebody is trying to tone down the rivalry with Georgia Tech. But hey, it's all Clean, Old-Fashioned Fun, right?

**** Tech and the stupid ramblin' wreck they rode in on :D
Clean, Old-Fashioned HATE is alive and well
And oh yeah, just for the record: We Run This State

Rivalry Week, gotta love it in college football
I enjoy the Falcons and the NFL, but not like SEC football

#GoDawgs #GATA #WreckTech

Nothing like Rivalry Week. Go to hell, Ole Miss!

I guess this is the latest attempt to make the rivalries more "PC", like renaming the Red River Shootout to the Red River Rivalry.

Its the most, wonderful time of the year...

"I am shocked the NCAA is investigating Auburn again!" said no one ever

ESPN Article Sources: NCAA investigating Auburn

Looks like this could be just what Auburn needs to avoid a huge buy-out when Chizik is fired

Fortunately Auburn has been busy all season self imposing a bowl ban by going 3-8 (3-9 after Bama gives them a beat down) and 0-for the SEC

Not likely Mississippi State can divert attention away from this one

@ESPNStatsinfo: Auburn on verge of being 1st school in FBS era to go from unbeaten in conf play (2010) to winless in conf play (2012) in span of 3 seasons

Rivalry Week
Anything can and usually does happen
Just ask Washington

Lots of big games that mean everything to their fans

Dawgs and Bees
Gators and Noles
Bama and Auburn
USC and Notre Dame
Michigan and Ohio State
Oklahoma and Oklahoma State
Mississippi State and Ole Miss
Clemson and South Carolina
Oregon and Oregon State

Likely to be more than one upset in that bunch
The only question is who

So far:
Georgia over GA Tech
Alabama shut out Auburn
Ohio State beat Michigan
Oregon beat Oregon State
'Dem Gators beat the Seminoles (great game by both teams)

Becoming bowl eligible is so much sweeter when it's against #failstate.

Hotty Damn Toddy and How 'Bout Them Georgia Bulldawgs!!!

Tonight was a great night here in Tuscaloosa!! 49-0 ROLL TIDE ROLL

Looking forward to Saturday vs Georgia. I wish USC would beat ND so it would either be Florida vs Bama or Florida vs Georgia for the BCS!!
