Well at my work our monitors are 19" with the ridiculous resolution of 1280x1024 *facepalm*

1280x1024.... that is super old school man! (im using twin 22inch full HD displays but through VGA and these arent exactly easy on the eyes either, just hate the fuzzy round the edges look to the text.)

That has been the standing rumor for a couple of weeks now. Some suggest it will be an education only offering that is cheaper.

if it is cheaper then I guess thats ok. Me missus is after a new laptop so she can start writing up her PhD Thesis. She wants a 13 inch MBP (even though I have suggested various other ultra books which are spec wise better). She doesnt really like the blade-like style of the Airs or the ultrabooks, instead prefering the hewn from solid granite feel of the chunkier MBP's.

I got her to hold off on the hope of better screens for typing with and reading with (honestly in the apple store I saw the 13 inch screen and just thought it looked poor). But if they are going to be cheaper instead, then I cant see too much to complain about.

"Finally, Apple will be launching its annual Back to School promotion tomorrow, although it is unclear whether that will be included in today's announcements."

Yay back to school offers

I hope that new MacBook will have an option for a HDD instead of a SSD. I need 750gb+ of space, but can't afford $4k.

There's supposed to be, the current MBPs, then a new line called MacBook, with retina and thinness.
That sorta makes me feel better about having bought a 13" a month ago I guess :L

Hmmmmm, hopefully we see the optical drive gone?

Just reading rumors, the MacBook Pro is supposed to be the same as it's been, but with Ivy Bridge internals.

The MacBook is supposed to be a new line lacking some of the ports and an ODD, but with Retina and a thinner design.

So if it comes down to a really expensive thinner retina mac with soldered SSD and RAM, no ethernet and no ODD vs a spec bumped MBP (no retina); what would people choose? Personally I'd go for the MBP, retina ain't worth such a sacrifice in my opinion.

Retina macbook with replacable ram and ssd drive on the other hand....

I guess the retina once are for the upperclass users based on the $4K prediction

The $4k was for the Retina MacBook with a 768gb SSD and 16gb ram. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say the cheapest MacBook 15" will be around $1800-$2100

I'd pick the thinner one. I've never used ethernet on my laptop, and my ODD was faulty on my laptop, so I never used that either.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I guess it does make sense, that way we have more options :3 xD

Retina models according to 9to5 They say they're expensive, but at least one of the models is the same as the part number list they posted earlier which had pretty normal Macbook Pro prices.

This makes no sense. Why would the hike the price up that much? Both the iPhone and iPad were introduced to Retina displays with no price increase. The 13" MBP screen is not munch larger than an iPad, I see no reason why the price would be increased more that $100.

Yeah what about the 13" pro? retina display? was the sticker with the specs leaked last week real?
I only care about the macbook pro 13" can someone tell me what are the specs of the new new model?

I am with you!!

They won't solder the SSD (they don't even do that on tha Airs) but there is a chance they go to blade style SSD (hopefully not though).

I also doubt they will solder the RAM - people would be up in arms if they did!!

I'd imagine that the $4k estimate was for the laptop with the 768gb SSD and 16gb RAM.

Flash memory is expensive. The SSD in the laptop is around 1 grand by itself. That and apple tax on RAM? Yeah.

ODD and ethernet isn't a big deal, but non replaceable ram and hdd is.

If I have to get a SSD, and there's no option for a HDD, I'm going to be torn.

Yeah you are probably right.

I am with you, I don't want to be stuck with the SSD price hike.

will be a huge difference between my current 640GB HDD and 256GB SSD
