I'm getting one delivered on Tuesday and I'll report back, I'll do a handbrake movie encode on both to check processor speed too.
That would be great.

Ok here we go again, 2:40PM and I'll go on Battery, let's see with normal use without installing and setting everything up how long it will last.
I'll jump in the pool with my two kids (fathers day duty) as it is close to 103 F outside and then I'll report what is going on![]()
well, now that this guy jumped in the pool with his laptop can someone else chime in and help us out?

I've posted a new report from this morning.
Cool. Same here. Here's the link to my post that I have been updating when I can.

Wow. The battery in these machines looks fantastic.
I've posted a new report from this morning.
awesome! thank you. I was just being a goof.
Apparently i'm nowhere near as funny as i think i am![]()
That was funny to me
Ok, I'm just downloading a couple of purchased apps from the app store and setting ups dropbox on the i7/4b/512 and the fan spinning is non stop, wind tunnel noise.![]()
Could just be Spotlight doing it's thing.... Hopefully it will settle down shortly.
Spotlight is not indexing anything now is just dropbox downloading some files but the fan is still on and loud, I do remember the same issue setting up the i5 on saturday but quickly went away and never turned on again, I'll report as zoo has dropbox setup finish.
run "top -o cpu" in the terminal and it'll show you what's eating your CPU cycles (type Q to quit top).

Dropbox is eating 139.8% CPU
I just want to take a minute to thank you guys for doing all of this. I'm going to be getting back into the Mac world & have been trying to decide what to go with.
The i5 vs i7 battery usage is really the interest I have. I find it interesting that the batteries in the Air are behaving just like a new cell phone - battery life becoming better after a few charge/discharge cycles.
Please keep posting your awesome work!
thanks, I just posted my latest report before the battery died, basically yesterday I went on battery at 2:40PM and used the laptop all day for safari, mail and screen sharing with other Macs in the house and today I did real heavy work for 4 hours, it looks pretty awesome to me.
How's the i7 been working? Still having fan problems?
No more fan problems after Dropbox finished the setup, I went on battery at 3PM, I think I can notice the i7, open and suspending Vmware fusion with Win 7 loaded is noticeable faster (about 6 seconds) and opening apps is almost instant comparing to a couple of seconds of bouncing icons before the apps are open in the i5 but still testing.
So far is 3:30PM now and the battery left is 6:44 hrs huge difference with the i5 so far and I'm trying to use it exactly as I've used the i5 yesterday.
Thanks for the updates. Huge difference in battery or speed?
Opening iMovie for the first time on both laptops
i7 = 3.86 seconds
i5 = 10 seconds
Exporting a 1:51 seconds 1080p video
i7 = 9 minutes
i5 = 15 minutes
Wow. I'm feeling better about my decision now. I'm also calling BS on the folks who say there is no difference between the processors.
