MP 6,1 2013 Mac Pro not going to Sleep

Walked into my office this morning to the sounds of a gentle fan. Felt the trashcan, very warm. What is going on? I'm on the latest version of Mojave. It's weird because when I am in windows 10 via bootcamp, it actually goes to "cold" sleep no probs.

Anyone have similar problem? Thanks!

Was it only just once? Try a restart and see if the sleep command from the apple menu works. If the display shuts off but the Mac remains on try to reset your SMC:

Power down
Unplug the power for 10 seconds
Plug it back
Wait 5 seconds
Turn on the Mac

You can also try resetting the PRAM:

With the Mac powered off press and how the command, option, p and r keys at the same time on your keyboard. Keep them pressed down as you turn the Mac on and wait until you hear the boot chime 3 times before release.

I've oftentimes combined these and unplug, replug, key press and then power on. It's been effective for me for sleep and TB monitor issues on the 6,1.

I had a logitech mouse that caused problems. Look to any 3rd party devices, especially if they add kernel extentions, kexts.

If it happens again, open up Terminal and issue the command 'pmset -g assertions'. It'll list the processes that keep it from going to sleep.

The two entries with associated PID's under the caption 'Listed by owning process' are the culprits.

No idea what handoff is - and I believe nsurlsessiond is some sort of generic download daemon provided by macOS for app developers to use?

At any rate: killing those processes one at a time and trying to sleep the system will reveal which one is to blame (or perhaps even both, really).

edit: the third process, pid 96(hidd) is the active user (you).

I found on my nMP 6,1 and another Mac I have here that network daemons - especially smbd - sometimes keep the computers alive evne when all shares are disconnected, might be some interference from my Windows based PC.

Anyway, I kill the daemons to resove that, all good. I also have Little Snitch running and block the hell out of nsurlsessiond (and all sorts of other daemons and services that come preinstalled). As far as I'm concerned they have no business on the 'net behind my back. Haven't had any issues because of that in a decade of using Macs.

Oh right, where I can copy something on my iPhone and then paste it on my Mac.... I kind of like this feature, but not if it is preventing sleep I guess.
