If the AL games get all tied up, that will make for some fun baseball. I can picture any of the eight teams going all the way. If this were a generation ago, you could reliably bet that the Red Sox and Braves would absolutely choke but both have shaken monkeys off their backs. It's early yet but I either see A's-Dodgers, or Red Sox-Dodgers.

Shhhh, don't wake their fans or we will never hear the end of it.;)

Only the annoying ones!

****YAWN***

What?

Somebody say something about the Sox. Was that a Yankee guy saying it?

*****YAWN*****

Nah, couldn't have been a Yankee guy...

ZZzzzzzzz

I'd like to point out that I'm a Yankee guy! Well, I'm a gal, but still.

I have no problem giving credit where credit is due. The Red Sox had the best record in the AL (and maybe in baseball?) for a reason. They're going to be tough to beat, especially with home field advantage.

The beards, though....Ew. Even more annoying now that they've turned it into a gimmick.

Ive been waiting for a Red Sox/Dodgers world series for a long, long time. I think I will get that this year. Both teams are just good. My two favorite teams (different reasons) since childhood. Plus its good headlines considering the blockbuster deal between both teams not long ago.

This LA/Atlanta game is boring as hell and long...it's only the bottom of the 6th and it's been almost 3 hours.

Couldn't care less about the LA/Atlanta matchup.

Being from MN I'd like to see Detroit against the Pirates in the world series (Pirates got our Morneau and Liriano) and I'd like to see the Pirates win it all.

Can anyone else believe that Atlanta is putting its playoff hopes on Freddy Garcia when they are facing Kershaw?

Go pirates!

Duck the fodgers!!

Buck the fraves!!

Tuck the figers!!

Cuck the fardinals!!

Suck the fed rox!!

The Cardinals will be tough to get by and the Dodgers, if they get there, could be the most talented team in the MLB. The Pirates, on the other hand, are on a Cinderella run and this represents a long time coming so they have the most momentum of all the teams.

The Tigers, well, are still the team that went to WS last year and it won't surprise me if they go all the way this year. The Red Sox have the best record. The A's just won't die and they are my sentimental favorite for this whole postseason. If they get past Detroit, I can't see them beating the Red Sox.

It's anyone's series this year and nobody is completely dominant. If you could put Longoria, Kershaw, Cabrera, Verlander, and Puig all on one team, then yeah you can roll all over the rest. The talent is spread out this time and there's no Yankee type dynasty in this current era of baseball. If the championship series goes to seven and the WS to seven then either the Cardinals or the A's are the best teams out there. If any game is to be won as a walk off then the A's are king. I want the A's but I doubt they can get past a well rounded team like Boston if they make it to ALCS. The Red Sox don't have to rely on some heroic play from any one star like Detroit's Verlander or Cabrera and can do it will steady production from everybody (much like my 2010 and 2012 SF Giants). In any seven game series, steadiness wins over any high profile plays. It's the philosophy of a "team" versus a group of guys with a few huge stars.

If Detroit wins it all, you will get endless commercials with Verlander, Cabrera, and Fielder pushing every known product for huge endorsements. But if Boston wins, they will (like SF) hunker down and start thinking about next year. I also see the A's as a team that can win, drink champagne for a few minutes, and get to thinking about next year. There's no coincidence that Boston tried to recruit the A's Billy Beane. For professional players, baseball is a 24/7/365 thing if you are doing it right being just because it's a few hundred steady year to year players in a field of millions who grew up playing the sport in their youth. This is a total commitment unlike any other American sport and yet it still has more career ending injuries than the NFL. You have to be 100% percent or it's a no go! It's a privilege that can't be forgotten and there's a reason they get paid what they get paid. A certain selfless team with consistent slightly above average players and team work ethic is what will build a baseball dynasty, not a few huge stars that richer teams can pluck right at their peak. It's really a continuation of not just the oldest American sport, but of a nation's philosophy and religion (which baseball is to some). While I love many other sports, baseball is more than just a sport and while it could be nothing more than a long season of 162 games and a busy postseason, the depth of this sport has somehow stuck.

St. Louis and LA?...that will be close one.

I am also from small town and Cardinal's bench coach is from my high school so that's cool. We should (SF Giants) have held onto Brian Wilson who is now with Dodgers so if they win it, I won't be sad either since he was such a part of the Giants and their success. I don't know much about Pirates other than it's been a long time and they have their fair share of stories and magazine covers. I can see a lot of people who don't have their team in postseason picking the Pirates. It will be exciting to see who goes against LA in NLCS. I remember when the Pirates and the Steelers won the big prizes in their sport the same year and that was quite exciting. We are Family!

Joe Girardi has signed a four-year contract to return as the New York Yankees' manager, the team announced Wednesday.

Girardi, whose previous deal was set to expire on Oct. 31, is scheduled to address reporters during a conference call at 4 p.m. ET.

The Yankees did not disclose financial details of the contract, but a source told ESPNNewYork.com's Andrew Marchand that the deal is worth $16 million and includes postseason bonuses. Girardi made $3 million this season.

The deal came one day after Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner acknowledged that the team wanted Girardi back. An Illinois native, Girardi had been considered as a candidate for the Chicago Cubs' managerial vacancy.

Girardi, who turns 49 later this month, managed the Yankees to an 85-77 record this past season, his sixth with the team. It marked the second time in Girardi's tenure that the Yankees did not reach the postseason.

The Yankees won a World Series under Girardi in 2009, his second season with the team. The Yankees have gone a majors-best 564-408 (.580) since hiring Girardi in 2008.

A 15-year MLB catcher, Girardi played for the Yankees from 1996-99.

I am pleased with this, Girardi did a great job with nothing this year.

he he he. yeah i remeber those days.

i was for the Orioles in that WS and always for anyone who played against the steelers.

i always hated those cake hats the pirates wore. lol.

I love Pop though...

Is brian wilson an integral part of the Dodgers rotation/pen? i haven't seen enough of them to know. i can't see myself watching too much if they make it.

Also rooting for the Pirates, trying for forget the fact that Pirates fans are also Steelers fans. That said, they're still preferable to either LA or St. Louis. Dodgers fans have entered defcon level obnoxiousness in the last few weeks.

So what team do you not want to face so I know who to root for.:D

Eh, I don't really think one is necessarily a much better match up for the Red Sox than the other. They're both good teams, obviously. Neither has any left-handed starting pitching, so that's great.

I guess if I had to choose, I'd prefer the A's. West Coast start times, lots of former Red Sox on the squad, and if they beat us I'd be rooting for them all the way. Although if the Tigers win, we won't have to hear the "small market miracle" story crap all through the LCS. Toss up, really. I just hope game 5 lasts 20 innings. :D

Tigers definitely have the better starting pitching and the better lineup - though Cabrera isn't 100%. Their pen is shaky, though which is a definite disadvantage in the playoffs. I dislike 2/3 teams, so thank God for football and hockey and preseason basketball!! :D

In the NL, I'm team Donnie Baseball all the way, but I would love to see the Pirates somehow make it through (down 2-0 to Wainwright though it's going to be difficult).
