Well, then I guess the Patriots are still within their dynasty based on that criteria, right? :D

A lot of Patriots fans seem to think so. ;):p

It's actually an interesting discussion, though. How long and how many do you have to win to be considered a "dynasty"? The Giants have won 2 out of the last 3 WS, but nobody seems to think of them in that way.

Maybe it has to do with how long the same group of guys does it? One of the reasons such a big deal has been made about the "core 4" is that they were Yankees farm guys who played together and were so successful for so long.

In all seriousness, it's the end of an era for sure. Can't say I'm sorry to see it end, but the core has had a good run. We'll see how the Yankees move forward. They have a lot of work to do, but there's also opportunity.

Tomorrow should be an interesting day with the Rays/Rangers battling it out for the final wild card spot.

I think the opportunity is there. I mean, look at this season. They had so many injuries - starting from preseason - to their key middle of the lineup guys, and then the guys who replaced the injured guys started getting injured! And in a division where 2 teams made the playoffs, they still managed to stay in the race until the last week of the season.

I think their pen is going to be solid - DRob has earned the shot to close, and they have some young talent who have the ability to cover the 7th and 8th innings. They're going to have to be creative with starting pitching, though. Kuroda was absolutely horrible the 2nd half of the season so I'm not sure they're going to bring him back (especially because of his age), unless they can get him on the super cheap. I can see them giving a few young guys a shot (Phelps and Warren) and see what happens. Unless they make a splash, they won't have a real #1, though. CC was arguably the 3rd best pitcher for most of the season and he's only getting older.

I think we'll see another year of Cashman being creative in trying to fill the gaps. He's been fairly successful over the last few years so we'll see how he chooses to fill in the holes (assuming they throw too much $$ at Robinson Cano). I do hope to see a much younger team (even if it means no championship aspirations for the next few years). I'm not really up on what free agents will be available, but I think it's going to be one of the most interesting off seasons we've seen in a while.

It all hinges on how healthy and how many games Jeter plays nest season. If he has an awesome year I don't see how they don't pick up his option.

There is no option next year. Technically, Jeter is a FA right now. He has a player option worth $9.5 million. I'm betting he uses it because he won't find better. After 2014, he will hit FA.

We also don't know if Girardi is coming back. He hasn't said either way what his plans are.

Girardi will either retire or comeback. He stated his kids are settled in NYC so he doesn't want to move them. There isn't much left in Chicago since his parents have passed away.

Frankly, if Showalter was available I would say goodbye to Joe. Showalter was critical in developing the Core 4.

Plus, maybe the Orioles would win the WS next year. ;) #Showaltercurse

There is an opening for the Cubs job.;)

Also rumors that Washington might be after him. I do think he likes the Yankees and would either return or retire.

I know. The whole Chicago speculation was due to the impending opening.... But, he shot it down.

Washington might be interesting as it isn't far from home.

The Rangers when hot are the best in the AL. I think either Oakland or Detroit will go all the way. My next choice for odds would be LA.

Let's go Bucs! I live in Pittsburgh. I can't even begin to tell you about the atmosphere. It's amazing, and a first for me. I'm 21 years old. I was 1 month old the last time the Pirates had a playoff game.

Pirates make the final four in the NL and this could be a dream season for them. They have a huge uphill battle imho. I think the Indians can have a similarly unlikely dream season, too but if they pull through in wild card they also have a huge schedule to face. What if this becomes a Pirates-Indians World Series?

Growing up close to Pittsburgh, I've always been a Pirates fan. This season has been a fantastic ride. I was 8 in '92, probably too young to appreciate that game that sent us into a great void of losing for two decades.

I'm happy they beat the Reds tonight. Will they beat the Cards, too? Tough to say, though they've played them well all season. At any rate, I'm enjoying it all while it lasts.

AL is full of wimps. Pitchers don't hit.

This.

The bandwagon has officially arrived in Pittsburgh. PNC Park was a ghost town in previous years, and if the Pirates start April off under .500 next year it will remain a ghost town for the rest of the season. Seems like these people are only fans because they're winning. Hell, even the Cubs had higher attendance for the 2013 season.

I'm totally pulling for the Pirates.

The first World Series I watched from start to finish was the '79 series. We Are Family! Plus the great early 90s teams that just couldn't quite get over the hump.

It will be nice to see PNC Park filled to capacity and rocking! It's a beautiful stadium I can't help but compare to AT&T Park, but the big difference in my mind was always the lack of fans and overall energy in the stadium compared to AT&T. Winning baseball certainly helps, so bring it on.

Would also love to see the Indians win it. They are long overdue.

The A's would be all right. Their epic collapses in the late 80s / early 90s soured me, their current ownership is royally screwing them into the ground, and the way their fanbase has developed such a nasty inferiority complex to the Giants are all significant turn-offs.

My head, on the other hand, says it'll be the Cardinals.

People talked so much **** on the Pirates the last 20 years. Those same people claim they are the best team in baseball. About halfway through last season when they were .500 the stadium was sold out all the time and fans were everywhere. Then they fell apart and the fans went into hiding. Now this year, now that they're in the playoffs, the amount of fans quadrupled. It's ridiculous that people like me who've been fans forever can't even go to a game because they're sold out. If you do manage to get tickets, it's standing room only.

Wait you are saying the pirates were still playing baseball? I thought they moved to Florida or something? :D

1) Watching pitchers flail at the plate is hardly some pure form of baseball. So, disagree completely. I love not having to watch that crap in the AL.

2) Pirates fans are no different than fans of every other team in baseball. Years and years and years of low payrolls, poor records, and crap rosters will drive fans away. Period. There is no team that is immune, even the Cubbies haven't had constant sellouts during their last 10 down years. I'm not sure why fans of some teams act like they're better than other cities, but the majority of fans are not going to pay ticket prices to support incompetence/mediocrity over a prolonged period of time. That includes Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Baltimore, etc etc etc. Every single team. Outside of the crazy diehards, most fans want to come and enjoy seeing a winning team. You can stay home and watch a franchise suck it up for free.

That said, Go Sox! and I can't wait for Friday! I'm a tiny bit bitter at the 12pm PDT start, though. Not much work will be getting done that day. :D
