Sutil signs for Sauber. 4 more places left. Who will miss out?

I'd say it's more probably 3 places left. Can't see Bianchi being dropped. Can also see Chilton staying put (thanks to his dad's money).

As for Caterham, I'd like Kovalainen back, he's such a nice bloke!

I like the new numbers rule. finally!
I have always wondered why they didn't introduce it before. Such an obvious marketing device.

Any guesses what numbers the top drivers will pick?
I am guessing alonso will get 14 as it's notoriously his lucky number.
I wonder what vettel chooses (for when he has to give up #1, if ever :D:D). I am guessing 8.

where do i find this ...? never mind i found it.

oh well. doesn't really matter wither way. i do like the teams being numbered in order though...

I don't think it's in the FIA's interest to lose more F1 teams. I'd imagine Bernie would be pretty upset too (despite his current situation).

Bernie is on record as saying he supports only having 10 teams in F1.

With their 11th place position in 2013, Caterham has lost a massive amount of potential prize money (both the ~$40 million from 10th position, plus the bonuses given to teams who finish 10th or better two years in a row). As such, there are rumors they may merge with Marussia or even Sauber, which would get us to 10 teams.

As to VW/Audi, they're committed to endurance racing and are expanding their presence in the WEC with Porsche joining Audi in 2014. Plus VW totally owned WRC for 2013, so I expect they want to focus on defending their championship.

Did you hear Michael Schumacher is in critical condition following a skiing accident. I hope he makes a full recovery. Although opinion on him is divided amongst F1 fans, he is a legend.

Yes, shocking news. Reminds me of Richard Hammond's accident, he was in a medically induced coma for a few weeks so it's still very early days for Michael.

I'll admit I'm not his greatest fan, but like you say he is a legend, but more than that he is a son, brother, husband and a father, so I hope he can recover from this.

Schumi is in bad shape. He hit his head on a rock while skiing (he was wearing head protection). He arrived at the hospital in a coma, and his condition is sketchy. Best wishes to Schumi for a full and speedy recovery.

I haven't been following the sport as closely in the last couple years, but I have read up a bit on Ecclestone's upcoming bribery trial.

My opinion: he's guilty and I hope they nail him. I can't see how the shakeup would be bad for F1 in the long run.

New Car Launches

Today the first new cars were launched. Whilst normally I'd have been talking about the surprisingly gorgeous Mclaren MP4-29 launch (complete with no title sponsor), it's the new Lotus which has caught my eye, in particular because of it's ingenious asymmetrical version of William's tusk nose. From Autosport.

In order to meet the single lower nose tip regulation, the two tusks are of unequal length, so the longer one forms the mandatory nose tip, while the other is short enough to avoid being considered part of the nose tip by the regulations.

Edit: also saw this stolen from twitter. McLaren looks way better with a slight paint tweak:

The paint job is a major improvement, but we need to see it from different angles and moving.
They remain beyond ugly, all of them so far.
The only good part is that at lest they are different from each other (although i suppose by mid-season they will all converge to the best design)

I was at the Detroit Auto Show over the weekend and snapped a couple of shots of this fine machine!
