i think a least the first half of the season will be very open, which should ensure a close championship to the end.

Based on the test session data from Bahrain, Mercedes AMG seems to have the best package at the moment, with Williams behind them. The rest of the Mercedes teams look strong thanks to having Mercedes power.

Ferrari seem to be doing the best of the Ferrari teams (and could be a somewhat distant third to AMG and Williams), who overall are doing better than Renault. The Caterham is the most reliable Renault, mainly because it has the aero of a barn with an open door in order to keep the Power Unit cool.

is (double points) still go? i kinda hoped it was abandoned.

The FIA and teams approved them for the final race only.

They should have brought back the Hippy scheme. That would have been awesome.

So not long to go now. I can't wait to see the interviews with finger boy whilst Q3 is still going on as from all the info I've seen, they are way off the pace and not going to make the top 10. That said it wouldn't surprise me for RBR to turn it around.

I am looking forward to see how the team dynamic between Fred and Kimi unfolds. That will be interesting to watch.

It's possible this year could make Lewis' switch from McLaren to Mercedes look like a stroke of brilliance.

Yes I think Kimi will win that one. But I'm sure there will be fireworks!

TBH I think Lewis's decision looked pretty inspired last year!

I'm interested to see how many engine failures we get. Nothing worse than seeing a guy out in front with a 20 second fusion. However if there is a higher chance that his turbo will blow, then it will make it more interesting up until the last lap (which was sadly lacking from many of last years races).

Why the needless insults? Very offputting and pathetic. If you want to demonstrate how tough and strong you are on the internet, at least man up and mention names.

I'm pretty sure Sebastian Vettel doesn't read this thread, so I have no problem mentioning him by name!
Finger boy was the general name most people assigned Vettel last year on the 2013 F1 thread.
Also I didn't claim to be tough or strong. I was just making a general comment. I also don't think saying I'm looking forward to Vettel not being in the top 10 is an insult. I have nothing against the guy, and if he can go on a race in a machine that is equal to his competitors, then bring it on. Isn't that what all F1 fans want to see? Good wheel to wheel racing, not one man 20 seconds down the road with his nearest competitor conserving fuel and tyres in second place?

wah!

everybody and his mother called him "finger boy"!

that said, he is a seemingly nice young man. i like him, more or less, just don't want one guy to win all the time.

best of luck to Sebb this season.

2014 has begun!

Some changes for 2014, odds and ends really...

Engine notes are *LOW* - lots of problems, some teams not even getting out of the pits for FP1, most lap counts very low.

Lots of diagnostic LEDs all over the cars this year

I saw a green flashing rain light, no clue what that meant... are they multicolor this year?

Numbers are prominent on the cars, and they get used on the world feed. Very NASCARish... Also on the world feed, a small color... insignia? slash? something gets put on the timing screen to denote the team.

For the first few races, it seems like (based on one FP session!) that if you finish, you'll be happy...

WHERE'S VARSHA? Booooooooooooooooooooo

So looks like RBR have made up a lot of the pace they lacked pre season. Mercedes are still the team to beat though. Also good to see Williams and the right end of the timings board. Takes me back to my youth.
Just hope we don't end up watching 20 odd cards driving round conserving fuel.

Heard the F1 cars for the first time today (on television). The sound like Indy cars!  This will take some getting used to.

Exciting qualifying. Maybe Ricciardo is better than most people gave him credit for. But basically I'll be happy to finally see anyone other than Vettel win tomorrow.

What a **** show.

My impatience got the best of me. I'm NEVER watching a NBC Sports Network race again. I will wait for SkyTV from here on out.

The announcers and commercials SUCK.

*SPOILER LINK* Ricciardo got boned. :(

Hmmmm, kind of liked the race. Bad luck for Hamilton, Ferrari didn't seem to show up. How bout Keith Magnussen! Nico had a very good car and a great result. Finger Boy, too bad. The sound of the v6's just isn't right....no screaming, sad. The nose treatments look awful. Could be an interesting year though with new, young guns winning. BTW, the only coverage I can get is NBC and I thought it was good....when is Varsha coming back or over???? Cheers

So it was a good mix up today. Shame we didn't get to see Lewis Masa or Vettel actually race.
For all I have said about not wanting to see RBR dominate, I felt pretty sorry for Ricciardo getting disqualified. He comes across as a really nice guy. In fact he reminds me a lot of Mark Webber who he replaced.
Well I hope we haven't just replaced RBR dominating with Mercedes doing the same.
Can't wait for the next instalment!

How would someone go about getting Sky or BBC F1 coverage in the states? BBC seems to have some sort of odd partial coverage...

WRT the race - a good mix up this time, great. Shame on Kamui for taking out Massa on turn 1, bad luck for Hammy but glad to see finger boy have issues. I do wonder if RBR decided to give Riccardo a competitive edge in his home-country race...

I would like Varsha back (not going to happen, apparently), not really a Diffey fan at all, but Hobbes is fine and so is Machett and Buxton.

I just set up UnBlock-us... So that I can use the BBC iPlayer. I looked today and seems they have a 2 hr Highlights feed, not sure what they cut... But didn't watch it since I watched the race live, will have to watch the BBC coverage going forward since I cancelled my cable subscription.

Agreed. But at least if Mercedes dominates there should be a fair and interesting battle between Rosberg and Hamilton. They are both truly number one caliber drivers.
