Terrible refs gave this game to the Broncos. Disgusting.
There were some calls that could be argued either way, but the refs had nothing to do with NE not being able to stop CJ Anderson. It was a great game. The Broncos just happened to make more plays than NE did last night and that's coming from someone who wanted to see NE go 16-0 this year. The big question is can NE continue to win with so many injuries? I haven't heard the latest on Gronk, but if he's out for the rest of the season then that would be a huge loss for them.

That's good to hear as you never want to see a player injured. However, from a fantasy football perspective, I wouldn't mind seeing him out since I missed him in every draft this year. :p

I wouldn't mind seeing Gronk out for a week, as he is on an opposing fantasy team this week.

What a game last night. I was impressed by Osweiler in the 2nd half.

Mostly I'm just glad Gronk doesn't appear to be seriously hurt. Couldn't care less about the loss either. I'd rather them lose a game now then try to go into the playoffs with the pressure to go undefeated again.

Too many people in New England blaming the refs today though. The refs didn't make the Patriots play sloppy and not take care of the football in the 4th quarter.

Hopefully everyone can start to get healthy in time for the playoffs.

Well if we're just blaming the refs for everything I'm blaming the refs for the 5 losses Seattle has this year.

Get over it Brady. You lost so stop crying foul.

Pot meet Kettle.

I must have missed where Brady was complaining about the refs. All the complaining I heard was from the idiots in the Boston media.

Meh. I don't see a problem with answering the medias questions about the refs. It's no secret officiating was trash last night, just like it has been all season.

Every player, coach, and fan complains or comments about specific calls at different times. That's a big difference from whining and using the refs as an excuse for the loss like some of bostons media morons this morning. A piss poor 4th quarter is the reason the Pats lost.

Man I feel bad for these refs, they are getting absolutely crushed by the media. There have been some blatant calls missed but most of the calls are bang bang plays where you have nano-seconds to make a judgement call on it. These guys have a tough job, I'm not saying its excusable but fans and media just like to pile on when someone is down. The competition committee should be getting some heat as well, they've changed the rules so much over the last couple of years, its hard to keep track of. from emphasizing player safety to just tweaking rules for the sake of appeasing some owner its just getting out of hand.

It seems like the reffing is getting progressively worse over the last couple of years. However, it's tough to tell if it's actually worse or if it's just the social media echo chamber magnifying the complaints.

I'd love to see an actual statistical analysis but that would be a massive project that would require going back and evaluating video of like every penalty call over the last couple decades.

Isn't that what the officials do every year ?

I think a lot of the heat comes form the ultra high def camera's coming in from every angle possible. Before the thought used to be "thier only human, they will make mistakes in snap judgement decisions."

Now with the high def replays for some reason being more than human is what we expect from them.

I think more than the refs, we need to start looking at the value of penalties. How is a defense hold completely away from the play an automatic first down? Why is offensive holding (which in all honesty could be called every single down) a 10 yard penalty and not a 5? Why aren't stiff arms to the facemask called illegal hands to the face?

Value/yards per penalty is pretty much just a deterrent to continuously perform the same penalty. If the penalty isn't severe, what's the point in calling it?

Stiff arm to the facemask isn't illegal hands to face because the ball carrier and tackler are allowed to make some contact with the helmet granted it's not pulled on or you're not twisting the players helmet/head. The illegal hands to the face penalty is applied to players not involved with the ball carrier (offensive/defensive line, receiver/defensive back away from the ball).
