How long did you try it without 3rd party apps? Based on reading someone else's post here, I tried hiding the menubar icons using Bartender. This has improved mission control degradation over time quite a bit. In particular, Dropbox seems to cause stutter and hiding it has improved things.

I'm on 10.10.3 14D130a

I tried it for half a day, which was enough to experience the slowdown.

This theory about the menu bar icons is quite interesting, I've never read similar :) It might has something to do with the problem. :)

People that have lag, have you pulled up activity monitor and checked out what WindowServer and kernel_task are doing?

I feel there is a general issue with Yosemite graphic performance. Something to do with animation or refresh rates?

I have a 13" 2010 macbook pro and under Yosemite, dock hidden, transparency off, if I hit play in Logic so the screen starts scrolling the cpu and fan go through the roof. If I reboot in Snow Leopard, it's fine. It's the same situation for almost anything that animates.

I don't get lag, but then I've disabled as many animations as possible.

I don't get why you would want to make your OS X look and feel like Windoze. Your Mac (hardware issue based on your description) is clearly having huge problems if you need to disable animations just to get a decent performance.

We've seen video captures from choppy laggy installs, not anyone from some described as butter smooth.
Is it not possible to give a clear and simple procedure to reproduce the issue and make a video ? We might then see if there are differences.

Here is my definition of choppy:

Oh sh*it ! I will get my rMBP 2015 in few days, i will be able to compare now. Thx a lot for the videos.

And you couldnt reproduce this issue in the applestore ?

all animations get slower which involve scaling: Mission Control, Minimize, Stack opening. Swiping between desktops is always perfect, so does the scroll in Safari. 60fps. OpenGL is not affected, I can measure exactly the same scores in CineBench after fresh boot as when the animations are choppy

Swiping between desktops is the part that is worst for me. It is definitely 100% affected... If I have apps open with transparency or fullscreen apps with transparency then swiping between this is very jittery. It's the animation that annoys me the most actually.

Like duervo, I was also able to reproduce this on the Retina iMac. Unfortunately most of the machines in the stores are rebooted every day and don't have a 27" external display attached to check the issue. I was specifically asking them to let me try this configuration with the 2014 Nvidia Retina MacBook Pro. My Mac (on the first video) is a Late 2013 Intel-only model. Next time I go to one of the stores, I want to try the 2014 Intel-only model too.

Oh I just ordered this laptop :( looks like I'll be returning it before I even open the device.

Based on what you read from complainers on a forum? I sure hope not.

No thats a good point but now I have read it I'll probably end up looking out for it. Plus I wanted to restore from a backup which has my uni work on it. Hopefully that doesnt affect it too adversely but we will see.

I've noticed this.. not quite that bad though...

When I was in the Apple store before I ordered my 2015 MBP, I opened all the applications on the dock and checked it out... it was certainly still a little choppy.

The computer I ordered is no different.

It is still much better than my 2009 MBP that I replaced. Do hope they find a solution to this though...

People are different. For me this means burning on fire of hell every time I switch windows.

I ordered a MBP today for delivery tomorrow. I got the 2.9, 8gb, 512gb model and I hope it doesn't have this issue! For £1,399 i expect perfection.
