I give Theo Epstein a lot of credit. He said he was going to rebuild and it looks like the team is on the verge of being a contender. A lot of that depends on how Adam Russell, Javy Baez, and Kris Bryant pan out.
As far as the White Sox, there are just a lot of holes to fill.
Yes, by the way, I'm bisoxual.
I go with Giants but when they are out, I am all for A's.
I think with Giants it goes with two things, "Love Giants, hate Dodgers". There's so much of a cultish, religious following with Giants/Bonds/Lincecum/Willie Mays that there's no room to hate A's after all that. They don't even play in NL West so it's not a visible threat.
As for Dodgers, I don't hate them per se but I have always feared them. We could be on top of the world and in a season where they are not in contention, but they can sting us to do more often than we down them from what I have seen. LA always rises to the occasion. In football us Niners fans have had to always watch out for the Rams, regardless of where they are in a season. They were the LA Rams once so it was truly an LA verus SF thing for a long, long time.
My only irrational hope was that Lester got a really, really cool new home in the Oakland Hills and wants to stay in the Bay Area so he would be able to stay here with its excellent weather but only play for SF instead of Oakland A's. Does he want to leave beautiful norcal for cold Chicago?
We will all know for sure probably before this Tuesday night turns into Wednesday. All this anticipation is similar to all the festivities we all saw with who would get Tanaka. At the latest, when I wake up tomorrow morning the SF paper will either be elated or pissed but either way there will be big block letters on front page:
LESTER SIGNS WITH GIANTS
or
LESTER SIGNS WITH CUBS
So why all the greed for getting Lester is what non-Giants fans may ask? With other historical five year dynasties like A's, Yankees (several times), or early Red Sox, there was at least one back to back on top of at least three wins in five years. The Giants don't have that back to back in order to show that type of 324 game dominance over two seasons. Heck even the Blue Jays went back to back. We couldn't even secure postseasons in 2011 and 2013 after World Series wins in 2010 and 2012. Giants fans don't want to see failure to get a postseason in 2015. Just getting that postseason, even as wild card, will help our overall long term legacy of this group of guys. Nobody will put the names of any members from 2010, 2012, and 2014 in the same category of Bonds, Mays, and McCovey, but it would be nice to be remembered as a legendary team, kind of like an Orange Machine akin to the great Big Red Machine of the Reds and their legends.
