I don't understand this part-time referee situation to be honest. I get that it's only for a third of the year but they make anywhere from $78,000 to $170,000+. Tell me again why referees can't devote all their time during the NFL season? They make more in 4 months than most people make in a year. As a rookie ref, you're making the low-end in salary, which isn't that much relative to experienced refs who make six-digits so I would understand wanting to supplement that salary but if you're a veteran referee who's making $170,000+, do you really need the extra income that you can't devote all your time for the NFL season? I'm not saying NFL refs should not be allowed to pursue other areas or opportunities for extra income but they make enough to focus on football for the season and whatever they choose to do in the off-season is up to them.
This, nfl treats the games like they're some high-school games as far as referees go.

Is it me or is everyone not understanding and taking what Cam Newton said last week out of context? He isn't complaining about getting hit, he's complaining about not getting the calls after hits that are supposed to be fouls/penalties. I'm reading these analysts and scouts saying he brought them on himself and yada, yada, but they sound butt hurt. I don't think Cam cares about getting hit, it is part of the game, but if he gets hit late or at the knees, that's a penalty and that's his point, not that he thinks he shouldn't be touched. If those scouts and analysts think that defense's are intentionally hitting Cam late, than that says more about them then it does Cam.

I'm not sticking up for Cam, but just reading all these articles on it makes me think they completely missed the point of what Cam is trying to say.

Newton said he wasn't having fun and that he feared for his safety on the field. That has nothing to do with getting calls and does come off as "whiney". Stephen A. Smith made the comment that he was getting the same kind of hits last year and sure seemed to be smiling and having fun. Why, because last year they were winning. I'll admit that I'm not a Cam fan, but he really doesn't help himself with his pouty attitude and complaining.

It's been fun watching the Raiders this year. I liked some of the signs I saw in the crowd last night. "If you build it, we won't come!". Ha! :D It does feel kind of odd to me that a NFL team could be in Vegas.

I'm not for or against the Raiders potentially moving to Vegas but the NFL game has changed. It's no longer just a sport, it's become an social event where you experience not just the team but the venue. The Rams aren't playing good football but I don't think that's going to have any ill or significant effects. With the new stadium that's being built, people will go watch the Rams even if just as a social outing.

That was pretty scary. Haven't seen our defense get picked apart so easy. Russel Wilson played good today, imagine him with a good oline.

the messed up call/ruling/rules on that roughing the kicker play saved the game from going to OT. if the bills make that FG, all they'd have had to do in the end was get in FG position again...IF ...

but seeing as who their head coach is i can honestly say this game ended as about expected. lol.

Wow, last night's game was enjoyable. I will say that I didn't think Sherman's running into the kicker was a foul. He played through the whistle, which is what he was taught since pee-wee days and he tipped/hit the ball. I'm sure the commish will ding him with a fine, because that's what they do now a days but I think it was a clean shot.

wrong. the RAIDERS looked pretty damn good.

I'd say it was both. I've been saying for awhile now that the Raiders are on the upswing. I hate to say it, but since Al Davis died, they have been improving.

Clearly you weren't watching the same play. The whistle had blown, and Sherman took out the kickers plant leg. That should have been a personal foul.

NFL senior vice president of officiating Dean Blandino, who confirmed that Sherman should have been penalized for unnecessary roughness for his hit on Carpenter, will look into the matter, per normal protocol. A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder that discipline for egregious mistakes by Anderson and his crew is a possibility.

And lets not forget the refs totally screwed Buffalo out of a field goal.

With one second remaining on the clock, the Bills lined up for a 49-yard attempt but were called for delay of game after the play clock expired. On their ensuing 54-yard attempt, Carpenter missed wide right.

Officials were standing over the ball on the second attempt with 4 seconds remaining on the play clock, which led to the delay of game.

"I usually try to give [the officials] the benefit of the doubt, but they lost control of that play," Bills' long-snapper Garrison Sanborn said after the game. "They didn't know what was going on, and they let the crazy situation affect it, in my opinion. They needed to pump it up [reset the play clock]. It's a very standard, simple thing they do all the time, and they never pumped up the clock back to restart it once we got the right [kicking] ball. So that was all on them."

Added Rex Ryan: "From an officiating standpoint, I think you can do a little better than that."

Anderson acknowledged the error after the game, "If there was that little time left, then that's probably a mistake on my part in not pumping the play clock back up. But I was not aware that it was that far into the play clock."

Blandino later said on NFL Network that Anderson should have reset the game clock prior to the delay of game.

"We are absolutely going to address it," Blandino said of the entire sequence. "Anytime you have a sequence like that at any point during the game we want to see what happened and just walk through the steps of where the breakdown was. Regardless of the outcome of the game, we are going to address the situation with our crew."

It looked like he tipped the ball and everyone agrees the play wasn't whistled dead. He was offsides, but the refs didn't kill the play and so both the kicker and Sherman continued to play through.

also...
sherman got his hand on that ball! he actually hit the ball as the holder put it on the ground! so the penalty could have been running into the kicker.

I must say I'm still amazed by how god Dak Prescott has been so far. At first I thought the guy is a a fluke but man so far he has been great

He is great but you gotta remember they got the best oline in the league. Kapernick could look good when he has 5 seconds to throw the ball and best running back in the league.

Sherman didn't purposefully hit the kicker. It's one of those no flag plays.

He ran into the kicker.

That should overrule the off side penalty.

It's only roughing the kicker if you don't get any part of the ball.

He got the ball.

He damn near took it out of the holders hand!

I'm not a fan of Sherman's, or that "retired" pouting machine Lynch, but he was playing hard nosed football and even he said that. "I go to the whistle".

I respect that.
