You will need 2 adapters - if you want to use USB and SD card. No mention of disappearing Magsafe. They have adapters for that as well. That would make 3.

Seems Apple is more interested in selling adapters.

And why not ....? They make extra money from you for those that need them.

Fellas no need to complain about the new keyboard until you actually try the new magic keyboard which is much better than the one on the retina macbook. Trust me the difference is night and day.

I'm assuming the pro will get the better one of course.

of course :D

What don't you like about it? My wife loves her's, says its the best keyboard she has ever used. - I haven't had a chance to really try it out for myself.
The keys barely move up/down. It makes it really uncomfortable to type. I make lots of errors when trying to use it.

For an actual laptop to do work on, though, I want a Mac... I want a Mac I can carry with me, not a gimmick that's super thin and adds things I don't need while bumping up the price so as to shave 3% off a thickness that's already plenty thin. I want a great screen (God, I miss the 17"). I want battery life. I want a powerful processor. I want a real freaking keyboard. If I can get all those things, I'll be happy.

I'm with you all the way, a portable computer. Remember when Steve Jobs described his products as 'screamers' - exactly that. Those days for Apple have gone though... Shame.

I find that hard to believe. You're forgetting to include OS X that also takes up RAM as well. It's the OS on top of everything. I have 10 GB of RAM now ( just recently beefed it up ) and I can open up Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Manga Studio, Sketchbook Pro, Pixelmator ( I have that too ) and what not all in the same time and they usually go close to about 5 to 6 GB combined.

Photoshop is notorious for being RAM hungry, keep in mind, regardless if it's the Creative Cloud or older versions. At this moment of writing on my iMac, I have 3.68 GB of memory left. And that is just with Safari opened. I'm using the Memory Clean app to monitor the usage of RAM and that's exactly what I'm seeing.

I have 3GB of App Memory and nearly 3GB of File Cache going on at this moment. Before I had 6GB of RAM, if this was the case, it would limit the ability to open more apps.

If I have 16 GB of RAM right now, it would probably have about 6 GB of storage left open. So in your case with all these apps open in the same time, it would go dangerously near 8 to 10 GB of RAM, choking your system. I do visual design/art as my profession so I understand how software, files, and the OS combined can take up RAM.

Then I open up Activity Monitor on my iMac and see a similar thing. Physical memory: 10 GB, Memory used: 5.50 GB, Virtual Memory: 10 GB.

App Memory: 2.71 GB, File Cache: 1.91 GB, Wired Memory, 885.9 mb. The results are close.

So what I'm saying is that all these apps you opened up on your rMBP are more likely to go past more than half of your 16 GB of RAM. Not a quarter. If you closed Photoshop, Pixelmator, iTunes, Spotify and other RAM hungry apps, then the number would drop significantly.
He just made a list, like his signature.

God the top comments are atrocious. the haters always assuming everything they read either sucks, or could have been done better. it's pathetic. wait and see how it works then complain.

Some people are not able to feel good about themselves until they rag on something/someone else. That feeling of being empowered, I guess.

The magic keyboard is indeed better...but not as good - in my opinion - as the original USB and current MBPro keyboards. Moreover, I think the style of the keyboard is driven by the thinness of the device...plenty of space in the magic keyboard for a slightly "deeper" design..but it remains to be seen what a thin MBPro can accomodate. I truly truly hope they don't go this route...but with the release of the magic keyboard I already got worried.

So the force touch trackpad is awful, retina display is awful, thinner device is awful, any innovation is awful.

If it were up to you we would still be using floppies on Apple II

No. He wasn't talking about true innovation (and where has that been lately..) just said about the AWFUL (is that loud enough) butterfly keyboard on the rMB, and it truly is AWFUL!

Personally, I don't think the force trackpad is anything wwonderful, obviously the retina screen is a must these days and as for thin, most people here like thin, but in proportion to their other priorities for a professional work machine: performance/speed, storage, battery life, ports, usable keyboard.

Thin and light is fine from the portability point of view, but I actually liked my cMBP because it didn't move every time I re-adjust the screen angle.. - pros and cons.. I think the current rMBP weight is ok simply because it's a pretty tough machine and not bendy like the opposition..

No, it really is bad. I have been trying to get to like it for about 6 months, but it is so terrible and inaccurate that I have cheerfully gone back to my MBP.

It amazes me the amount of times I see Steve Jobs mentioned on all these different threads. 5 years after the man died. No one knows what Steve Jobs would of done so it's pointless saying "Steve Jobs never would of done/allowed this" 5 years is a long time, things change, technologies and industry's movie forward. I'm not saying Apple is perfect but I'm also not saying it is any worse than when Steve Jobs was around.

Apple plans to introduce a revamped high-end MacBook Pro this year that'll include a thinner and lighter form factor, Touch ID and a new OLED display touch bar above the keyboard, according to a new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The new MacBook Pro would come in 13- and 15-inch variations and arrive in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Kuo calls the new MacBook Pro updates the "most significant upgrade ever undertaken by Apple." The new "thin and light" design will be helped by new metal injection mold-made hinges and the butterfly-mechanism keyboards that debuted in the 12-inch MacBook. There has been speculation Apple would introduce Touch ID to MacBooks and, in the meantime, Apple engineers are working on a way users could unlock their Macs with Touch ID on iPhone.

The 12-inch MacBook will also be joined by a 13-inch MacBook, according to Kuo. The analyst believes that Apple will move forward with all three MacBook lines this year, with the MacBook Pro occupying the high-end slot, the MacBook will replace the Air as the medium-level model and the MacBook Air will serve as an entry-level model with comparatively low prices.

In April, it was reported that the new MacBook Pros would see slimmer designs and new hinges. Additionally, speculation indicated the new MacBook Pros could adopt Thunderbolt 3 with USB-C. Today's report confirms both rumors. Apple's refreshed MacBook Pros are also expected to sport faster Skylake processors, with the top-of-the-line MacBook Pros also sporting AMD's new 400-series Polaris graphics chips.

[doublepost=1464103469][/doublepost]For these kind of Prices it's OUTRAGEOUS there isn't a 17 inch monitor.
And don't tell me I don't need one.
Develop code on a modern GUI, or database viewing with SqlDeveloper.
17 Inches is a MUST.

The important things in the all New Macbook Pro is:
  1. Top of the Line Polaris GPU (I hope an need that Apple put at least 4 GB VRAM to Edit 4K Video)
  2. I hope and need 32 GB RAM Capacity
  3. I hope and need 4K (OLED Display)
  4. I hope and need Thunderbolt 3
  5. I hope an need a touch ID (tired of writing my password)
  6. Butterfly keyboard will add more precission to the computer.
The thiner and lighter form factor it give us more comfort. I hope that this feature doesn't give away durability and rigidness.

Anyone else think that this 13" Macbook (if it actually happens) will be Apple's version of "adding one more port" to the 12" Macbook. Instead of changing the design of their ideal perfect computer they will release a not so ideal (from Apple's perspective) computer that has less compromises and thus appeals much more to the masses. (More ports, slightly better performance, more travel to the keyboard, better webcam etc.)

Hopefully either this hypothetical 13" Macbook or the new 13" rMBP fit my needs (a very thin light laptop than can output to two displays and has at least 10hr battery life).

OLED for the function keys sounds really weird. Gimmicky if I'm being honest. But I use an external keyboard when I'm doing real work so I guess it wouldn't be too terrible.

Sounds great! If the Pro gets thinner, they might have a sale to me! The current ones are such bulky beasts, speaking as an Air-spoiled owner.

If the Pro isn't enough thinner, I'll have to go MacBook. But I'm willing to pay for a Pro and get a better GPU.

The Air is dead. We should all have stopped morning long ago. It remains (for now) only for price—which means expecting high-end stuff like a retina display makes no sense. The Pro and the MacBook are eating it from both sides until the "ideal dream Air" will be your choice of one of those.

Sounds good to me, this would actually be enough of a change for me to part with my $$$ and finally retire my 2010 MBA... I say that every year, but I'm serious this time. :D

I'm in the same boat now as I am with the dreaded iPhone 7 with no headphone jack.
Will the new MBP be a total fricking trainwreck?
An OLED display replacing often used function keys may or may not be a deal breaker for me.
Should I grab a current spec MBP? Or wait for the next as it will be a long needed spec bump, and leap to faster memory bandwidth, and hopefully a faster SSD (M.2 NGFF?).

I'm a huge Apple dork. Have been for decades. The lack of direction out of Cupertino is really sucking the wind out of my sails.
