This is the HUB that I have gone with as well. I ordered through Amazon and it was delivered. While I do not have my 15" Pro yet, I tested it out on my girlfriends 12" MacBook and it does work well. I was able to format an SD card while being plugged into the Ethernet and charging my iPhone 7+ through USB to Lightning Cable. The color matches the Apple look and I thought the build quality was nice. It got warm, but not hot in the 20 or so minutes I used it.

Thanks for your input. So there is no space gray option for this HUB? Silver will work OK I guess! Amazon has been good to me before so I will give it a go!

Edit: Oh wait, the space gray is out of stock on the Satechi website and maybe also on Amazon.

Is it strange that there is ZERO touch-bar MBP in the wild, no review units, no display units, no one managed to smuggled one out.

Why wouldn't Apple provide some review units?!
Personally I think they were still doing some finishing touches.

Do we know they haven't provided review units? All we know is there aren't any reviews out.
Gruber, Nilay, Rene, and others have said they still don't have them.

This only supports 49w for charging, so not good enough for any of the MacBook Pros unfortunately.

I placed my order on the 27th about an hour after the presentation but cancelled it because originally I had the 2.6GHz CPU in the 15". I remembered there were more differences between that one and the 2.7/2.9GHz CPU s besides just the clock speed so I re-ordered with the 2.7GHz CPU instead:
  • 2.7GHz Core i7
  • 16GB RAM
  • Radeon Pro 460
  • 512GB SSD

What are your thoughts on this hub??

I ordered my 13' base model with touchbar on the 31st, since I only had the option to pay immediately with a bank transfer my order was only completed today and thus I will have to wait until the december 9-15th
Anybody in Belgium who got an earlier shipping estimate?

I'm still surviving on a macbook of 2008 so I'm in desperate need of a new one

What differences are you referring to? What relevance will they have in real-world performance?
Okey, what do you recommend?

Waiting. There are no good docks yet, unless you buy the LG monitor Apple is selling, or pick up that Belkin dock when it comes out. That will probably go for over $300 though.

Anyone have this one? If so tell us how it performs.

Based on my wife's experience trying to find a hub that works with her macbook, I would recommend getting a hub without passthrough charging. It seems that hubs without passthrough are much more reliable than those with. That said, having only one port she needs passthrough charging, and this: https://www.amazon.com/HooToo-Shuttle-Delivery-Charging-Output/dp/B019R9ILTG/ has worked pretty well (though not perfectly).

Edit: I can't find the wattage of the passthrough, however.

Thanks archimon,
Not to derail the thread, but would mind sharing where you found the pass through wattage? I can't find anywhere using Google.
Thanks!

Someone asked how they got the machine for 1999. I was simply stating that they were probably talking about that one and not the touchbar
Amazon had a pricing mistake and was briefly offering the $2799 15" Touch Bar model for $800 off, making it $1,999. They did the commendable thing and honored the pricing mistake (but only on 1 unit if you ended up ordering more than 1)

I actually asked satechi through their website - this is what they told me, verbatim:

Subject: New products question was posted : Satechi Aluminum Multi-Port Adapter 4K HDMI, Type-C Pass Through, Ethernet, SD/Micro Card Reader, and 3 USB 3.0 Ports (Space Gray)

Satechi Tech Support replied:
Dear Customer,

Thank you for your interest in our products. The Aluminum Type-C Multi-Port Adapter will only pass-through 49W to the new MacBook Pro. If you have any other questions or concerns please let us know.

Thank you,

Can I ask what you don't like about this hub? I ordered this in advance and would love to know if I should return it.

Hi,

I ordered the following

13" MBP TouchBar
  • 3.1GHz
  • 16GB RAM
  • 1TB

I have a couple questions:

  1. For the last 10(?) years, I've used either a 17" or 15" quad-core MBP. Most of my work is not CPU or GPU intensive, but I do develop using a GNU/Linux virtual machine on my Mac. Will I miss having four cores or a dedicated GPU?
  2. My plan is to get the LG 5k display. I know it's probably impossible to say, but will the integrated GPU have trouble driving the display when there are more than just a few windows open? (The ArsTechnica review of the non-touch bar 13" MBP noted having these issues, but I believe that the GPU is different).

Thanks
