I'm sorry, but I will take an OEM infotainment system any day if it means CarPlay requires a wired connection. My 2015 VW GTI came with a 6 inch iPod accessory cable with the old 30-pin connector that is housed in a cramped compartment under the climate controls. Access to that every time I enter my car would be a PITA. I will never return to a wired connection again due to the convenience of bluetooth and keyless entry. Both my phone and car key remain in my pocket eliminating the pre-ignition fumbling.
Don't you charge your phone in your car anyway? Navigation sucks a lot of juice.

SYNC3 uses Blackberry, not Microsoft.
Yes, I was referring to the original SYNC, which was Microsoft. I know they ditched MS at some point. Though Blackberry doesn't sound much better.

I find it funny anyone who actually cares about CarPlay.

Kenu Vent Mount + any iPhone is already more featured than CarPlay.

I agree, but the constant annoyance is car manufactures can't seem to make as good consistent Bluetooth audio connection, WITHOUT AUTOPLAY, work. That's always the annoying piece of the puzzle.

Even if it works for a while, the next iOS update often breaks it.

A few hours ago, I bought pioneer sph-da120 which supports CarPlay.

It is for a 2015 Mazda5 that my wife just bought.

It only cost about $360 shipped with a coupon code for 20% from jet.com, but only up to $50 off.

Still a great deal.

I can't remember the code, but I will find it if anyone is interested.

I'd rather take a simple bare bones fun-to-drive vehicle and listen to its engine and exhaust vs having a bunch of gimmicky high tech non-sense.

Do they still make those things? I think the Lotus Elise was the last one.

For $200 my iPad mini on the dashboard is rather more convinent (and can be upgraded for cheap as often as I want)

I was going to do a mod on my MR2 to use my iPad mini instead of a headunit. The aftermarket Carplay was announced and I did not want to go through the trouble to do the mod.

Now that I have a iPhone 6s plus, I considered doing it again with the iPhone, since it would fit better, and be easier.

Any auto maker that is putting CarPlay on hold should take all their executives out back and shoot them. Here's a hint, whatever crap entertainment system you were planning on competing with is going to get crushed. Don't waste our time holding out for two years before realizing the error of your ways.

Honda could have told me before I purchased my 2015 6 months ago.,

I'm still waiting for the class action from all the 2015 owners who were baited and stiffed by the advertising and dealers with the promise that their vehicles would get a backwards comparable update because the display audio units in the 2015/16 production cars were the same as those that did the successful beta field test in early 2015.

I will wait the day until you can say "Siri, drive me home." and she will reply, "all conditions checked, starting the engine."

Seriously, self driving car is no longer a futuristic idea.
I don’t think it will go anywhere until culpability is sorted out. Trains can be self driving but they are limited to the rails, there is so much more opportunity for distaster with our current road/law/car systems.

BMW gets a pass cos iDrive is pretty good. The rest...no

I second this! BMW has always been well ahead of the curve, technologically. First automaker with a modern GPS system in the '95 E38 7 series, a system which lasted, with hardware and software upgrades, through the MK4 system of 2002-10. iDrive was horrible on '02, owing to a Windows CE codebase, but has evolved since and is now far ahead of the curve when compared to Mercedes' Comand or Lexus' egregious assault on ergonomics, their version of Toyota's Entune system.

The beauty of BMW is that, many times, newer systems can be retrofitted. When they eventually bring CarPlay to their cars, it should be able to be added relatively easily to any car compatible with the CCC or NBT system; any BMW with iDrive 2006-on.

I just wish they'd stop making the new F30 3 series feel like a Camry. If I want a boring car, give me a Lexus, please. It should handle like my E46- tight and communicative.

This is taking way too long. I've been using a simple cradle with a suction cup since forever. Got the Tom-tom for basic navigation on the botton left corner of the windshield (it's great to always have a mini-map of the area even when not using the navigation function, you know where the intersections and odd turns are), and the iPhone suction-cupped in the middle of the console where people typically have their third party nav systems.

I can charge the phone, use it for audio, make calls (using the phone's microphone and the car speakers works excellent, I'm getting compliments on the sound quality), dictate very long text messages (thank you siri!), even switch to video recording when something fishy is happening on the road. I can use my iPhone without looking at it so it's not too much of a distraction. Knowing where every button is from daily use really helps, carPlay would defeat that. I'd love to have some sort of cradle/dock that is flush with the console where the phone is held inside the center console. Or just a sturdy dock for that matter. Preferably with some sort of OBD2-integration so the phone gets all the info from the car's sensors for better navigation and info. Easy things like suggesting to get some gas at station X when fuel is low, I have nothing in my calendar and prices are cheap right now.

The IOS / CarPlay interface is dated, it's fated and gets regularly slated. Yet has a quaint retro look against these modern car dashboards. Clever move Apple. 'Lack Of' is the new 'Leading' when it comes to innovation. Clever marketing, Apple! Let's do it!

A car without CarPlay is almost as useless to me as a car without an engine. Unbelievable how long it's taking the industry to wake up to giving their customers what they truly want in a road vehicle.

That's quite a statement to make for all.

I think users want a decent engine, ride, handling and safety in a "road vehicle".

That's why I choose BMW as my choice of car and thank goodness they haven't rolled out CarPlay and they've stuck to their BMW iDrive which works brilliantly for me and also brilliantly with my iPhone.

CarPlay is one of the least important things for any car manufacturer.
