Finally an iPad worth buying. I have to ask: is this foreshadowing the removal of the lighting cable from the 2019 iPhone?
Always amused at the “shock and anger” that I read when Apple releases a new product with price. People on MacRumors should know by now that Apple is not your cheapest option.
Might as well buy a laptop at that price point, at least then you'll get a real filesystem.
Or most economic, or most powerful, or with the widest feature set, or with anything other than its Fashion statement carefully crafted by Apple advertising.
Apple has one leading feature these days and that is data security. If anyone else address this in their product, then its game over for Apple.
I’m guessing you’d probably have to remove the case to charge it.Will you be able to charge the pencil if you have a 3rd-party case?
On my iPads I have always just used a basic silicone slim case "back" — no front cover or cutouts for keyboard connection. But such a case would cover up the edge on the new iPad, where the magnetic pencil-charging happens.
Someone might have said this but to pair the old pencil with it you’d need a lightning port?I'm sure it does work but not the other way around for 'old' iPad Pros
It has the best software for various industries. The iPad is absolutely unsurpassed now as a portable (2D) art creation device. And that’s before Adobe we’re forced to up their game by the competition and release versions of their suite we’ve been asking for for years.Or most economic, or most powerful, or with the widest feature set, or with anything other than its Fashion statement carefully crafted by Apple advertising.

You must be the overseas version of myself. Hi. I live in Project and Visio. I would love these on a portable device. Well, an Apple device.I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s been thinking this. I’m intrigued to know if I could do my PS workflow on an iPad but I’m not sure I want to drop the pounds and pence this year if PS doesn’t come out for 12 months and really does need the 2019 ipad to fly.
I wonder whether this could finally replace my trusty 2012 11” Mac Air but not being able to run full Visio and project on an iPad yet is still putting me off... I think that’s my last two apps that would need to go over...
Couldn't agree more...but they do this to up-sell you. For most people, 64GB on an iPad is not enough. Thus, the real iPad is the 256GB. Plenty of people will buy the 64...and then complain later that it's not enough storage. But you've already purchased. This 64 to 256 thing will continue as long as Apple can get away with it.64gb as the entry level option for 800 bucks is just uncalled for in 2018. Should of started at 128gb and up honestly
According to this page... https://www.apple.com/apple-pencil/select/Someone might have said this but to pair the old pencil with it you’d need a lightning port?
I wonder if an adaptor would work though.
[doublepost=1540926943][/doublepost]This is an absolutely incredible looking iPad but I’d immediately need a usb-c to lightning adaptor or I’d have to fork over a hell of a lot for all the various dongles I’ve accumulated!
Seriously though this is beautiful and I’m contemplating selling my iMac to upgrade my iPad. How weird things have got in the computer space. (I also have a MBP so I don’t necessarily need multiple Macs..)
Me too! I dont know why they didnt upgrade at least the A chip inside... they even mentioned the mini in the presentation!!!!! Shame on Apple with thisVery disappointed that there were no iPad Mini release! Will wait for March!
and Keyboard and Pen for free, 4K display, dedicated graphics, expandable memory, bigger display, bigger SSD, better audio for anywhere $1000-$1450 i7 8th Gen... Not sure who would be paying so much for content consumption... May be I am wrong since this is Apple tablet...
That seems to make sense, but I've heard designers mention before that absolutely flat tablets are very difficult to pick up from flat tables; it's almost like a suction effect. Maybe Apple wanted to avoid that here?
But when it cracks it will not be Tim picking up the pieces.
I'd imagine no, there's no way to pair it as there's no lightning port. I suppose you could get a USB C to lightning dongle, but I don't know if apple would support it in the firmware for these iPads.Did they say if the now "old" Apple Pencil works with the new iPad Pro? Hope so...
