People should pay at least $2,000 for an iPad with 6GB of RAM!! This is way too much of a bargain...

GOOD. People who don’t buy the 1tb model should not be granted the privelidge of getting a future proof iPad. 4gb is fine but I’m glad it’ll be outdated much faster

Nice to see differences between capacity, as I always buy maximum
Also I do not like that there are no major differences between the iPhone XS and XS Max (other than screen), like dual lens camera for iPhone 7/8, optical image stabilisation for iPhone 6/6S, etc

The iPhone X’s shouldn’t even come with a dual camera. It’s a scam to the xs plus users

I remember the days when SJ used to mock the Android fragmentation. Well, I gotta say that Apple has passed them in this department by far with almost every product that they have released recently lol

You might want to ask someone with some tech knowledge to explain what “fragmentation” means, in this context...

Briefly.... if Android tablets can be running any one of over a dozen different graphics chips, with over a dozen different resolutions, & anywhere from one to eight gb of ram; it could be hard for a developer to know what to target their app for, & near impossible to test it on anything but a sliver of these configurations. That is called fragmentation.
If two people are rendering huge photos & transcoding massive videos on the new iPads Pro... where one does so infrequently & has a 128gb model, and one does so as their primary use & has a 1tb version- the added ram would likely speed these tasks a bit for the latter user. The developers don’t have to create separate apps, or do anything differently at all. This wouldn’t be considered fragmentation.

Lovely device, but approaching £2000 with AppleCare, maxed out , too much for an iPad .

Though a Mac mini can hit £2600 now .

Edit - as pointed out to me , it’s over £3.8K

There is also fragmentation for the users, and this is what Apple is guilty of .

You mean £3859?
OMG - you are right . The iMac Pro looks like a much better buy

Gee got the trolls all in a nit. Anyone remember that 4GB is actually a lot of RAM? If the level of RAM is not impacting what people are doing, then it is enough. If its not, perhaps a tablet is not your best choice. although it seems if adobe can fit photoshop on an iPad Pro, I'm guessing 4 gig is plenty.

I remember talking to one clown who was trying to complain about some computer not having 32 Gig of ram so he could open more windows on a browser (LOL, what a troll). I only have 16 gig on my MBP (but when I check the memory usage, I am never using it).

As to 1TB SSD? on a thin, portable device? I hope you know how to backup. I would say that is pretty much a special use case.

Gut check. Why should I buy a Pro device, meant to serve as a laptop replacement according to Apple, that has the same amount of RAM as an iPhone? Matched with all that A12X power? Seriously Apple? I was all ready to buy one of these until this, now I'm seriously leaning towards not buying one at all. The longevity of this device will be called into question when comparing 4GB of RAM to 6GB.

To the people complaining: Do you do anything on your iPad that would warrant 6GB over 4GB? Personally it’s not an issue for me, but just really wondering about others.

It’s not really to do with that. For the proce they’re asking for, the 6gb should be standard. The 6gb will ensure longevity of the product that people are already paying too much for. This is not an ok tactic

Woa, a logical level-headed comment. Odd to find here. Seriously, I agree.

Though, anecdotally, I remember the opposite too. I had a buddy in middle school circa 1998 from a wealthy family who build his gaming PC with 512MB of RAM using 8x64MB DIMMS - using a very expensive mobo with that many slots. He spent a small fortune on that PC. He assured everyone that he had so much RAM he wouldn't need more for a decade. Then RAM prices came crashing down a few years later and 1GB or 2GB was base spec.

Bragging rights. Mine's bigger than yours....

meanwhile, those of us who just want to get stuff done will yawn and get to work...

I’ll wait for confirmation on this, but the discussion itself is kind of funny.

We get the people who are pissed about the RAM, who seemingly are the same types who claim the iPad will never be a proper computer...in which case what does it matter?

That’s not excusing Apple IF this is true (it’s pretty lousy if it is). It just seems to me that people seem to go the “Gish gallop” route when it comes to technical complaints.

Let me ask you this question , have you ditched your desktop and / or laptop for an iPad Pro ?

My Apple Watch is a real computer, though not the right tool for productivity tasks.

The iPad Pro is a very powerful tool, it’s jsit that for many it’s like hammering a nail with a screwdriver, sure, can be done , but is it as efficient as a hammer ? Some will tell you so ..... but that also means , maybe these people don’t need a hammer in the first place . Hope you see my point

Just curious, i just left my wife's work, DA's office they all use PC's except my wofe also has a county paid for Surface pro 4 to use at home. My question is, why don't IPads come with a kickstand? When i play on the SP4 I find very useful.

Well they just made the pencil attach to the side of the iPad (like surface), kickstand im a year or two.

Innovation has turned into everyone copying each other

How do you come to this conclusion? Every single device is using the same processor. The screen resolutions are perfect multiples, RAM is not going to save an iOS app from anything but reloading after being “closed”. I’m not sure what your definition of “by far” is but they haven’t even surpassed them at all!
