I really hope the iPad Pro updates come with 8GB Ram. The limits it places on some software currently is pretty frustrating.

Yes because the 512GB x plus is the same price I paid for my 256GB X.
yes i passing down my ipx 256gb to my gf also... now i think only used 130gb of space...

i dont think they will out 3 storage option... i still thinking 128gb and 512gb will drive the sales higher than 64 256 512 gb... coz 256 to 512 only 2x which 64 to 256 is 4x.... so make sense drop 64 and get 128 as standard....

I agree. I don’t think there will be a 256GB this year. I think it’s gonna be 128 and 512 and 128GB isn’t big enough for me. However I think Apple having 128GB as entry level storage is great.

why? it doesn't need anywhere near that much.
I don’t think it even uses the 4GB of ram at the moment. It’s always fast and I’ve not experienced any slowdown yet.

That would certainly be a apple thing to do lol

There definitely should, if they are putting a 6.5” screen in it add some exclusive software features like multitasking to make use of the bigger screen.

No they shouldn’t! Not everybody wants an absolutely ridiculously sized phone. I mean 6.5 inches, it is just totally impractical. Even the normal X is pushing it in terms of size, but I fear it will come to be seen as a second tier device that misses out on features, especially unfair at that price. It’s the only realistic upgrade path from a 6s/7 to the 2018 iPhones as the rumoured 6.1 inch phone is also a stupid size

You do realise it’s going to be the size in the hand of the 8 plus?

It’s hardly a stupid size

It’s like saying smaller phones are stupid

It’s all about what people want and the market wants bigger phones.

Yes, exactly. The plus is a stupid size. iPhone 7 size or maybe a bit smaller, but with bigger screen is perfect

The Plus size isn’t stupid, I had a 7 Plus before my X and I love it! If they hadn’t made the 6.5” X Plus at the time I would of brought it. The Plus size models sell well anyway so there definitely is a market for it, if you don’t want a Plus model that’s fine you can buy the smaller size, there isn’t an issue.

But for plus users the size of the iPhone 7 is stupid...

As I said it’s all about preference
Yep the iPhone 7 is dead on
Arrival me.

Ideally a little bit smaller than the X, but yeah the 5.8 would be the one I would get if I upgrade this year
So if there’s a phone you want then what’s the problem wirh the 6.5 inch iPhone. You don’t have to buy it.

Agreed

The iPhone X has been fine for me size wise and I really enjoy it but getting the 6.5 X plus is an easy decision. Love the bigger screen

I'm more than ready to jump off my 6 Plus. Opening ANYTHING is a test of my patience.

Pencil support would be great; I already have one for my iPad Pro 12", but would consider buying a smaller form-factor version for use with my phone.

I'd get at least 256 GB of memory, but probably would just buy the 512 if available, a smaller pencil (if available), the new airpods (if available), and a new version watch (if available). Except for the Airpods, I've been holding off on accessory purchases until the new phone comes out. In the meantime, I kept my 6+ for almost 5 years, so I definitely got my money's worth out of it.

In related news, I just recently decided to move ahead with Homekit (but not until I get a new X2) and a bunch of stuff that surrounds that. That kind of decision is basically a conscious intent to stay in the Apple iOS ecosystem for some number of years more. It's also an expensive decision, yeah yeah, I know...:D

And finally, until Apple makes the new name public, I've decided to call it the X2. I figure that's better than calling it the ten-two, 10-2, DecaDeuce, or 102. So there!

Well you at least are used to a big phone so you have more options this year. In my case I don't want any device physically bigger than my non-plus 6 (a one hand operating is a must-have for me!) and I also don't want to expend money on a iPhone 8, which is still expensive, heavier, thicker and I will only get a speed bump and better cameras. Of course is not an Apple related matter, cause the rest of the market is the same.. bigger and bigger devices...

No, the SE is a $349 phone, the 6.1” will be twice that. With an A9/2GB RAM, the SE is plenty fast (like the 6S/6S Plus) and doesn’t need upgrading.

The 4" SE was $399 when it was released, at a time when the next step up (iPhone 6S) was $649--that is, you saved $250 by choosing the 'budget' SE over the mainstream option.

The new 6.1" SE will be $649 when released, and the next step up (iPhone X replacement) will be $899--you will save $250 by choosing the new 'budget' SE over the mainstream option.

Apple has never been interested in offering a cheap iPhone, they've just determined that $250 less than the mainstream model is where a less expensive option needs to exist in order to keep those buyers from buying a non-Apple product.

The 4.7” screen is more desirable to most than the 4.0” screen—especially if your phone is your only computer—so the 6S may take over the budget spot. I wouldn’t be surprised if the SE form factor is discontinued, once they can make a larger phone for about the same cost.

I expect the current 6S and SE models to disappear completely when the new phones are announced. I guess you could say that the iPhone 7 will be the entry-level phone in a few months.

The SE was always positioned as the least expensive iPhone, re-using years-old parts and technology (though with a current CPU) in order to make that sub-$400 price point. Apple used a current CPU because they knew that would give it a three year shelf life, not because they intended the SE ongoingly to be a cheaper alternative to a current iPhone.

The 6.1” iPhone 9 is the follow-on to the $699 iPhone 8, but with FaceID and a bigger screen. As a better iPhone 8, I think it’s more likely to be priced at $749 than $649. At $649 Apple’s margins would be severely affected, and why would anyone pay an extra $250 for the smaller iPhone X? The LCD screen is already excellent, so the camera becomes the main differentiator. But people are used to only paying an extra $100 for a better camera, and that also got them a bigger phone (8 vs. 8 Plus).

Really, there’s nothing SE-like about the upcoming 6.1”. The soon-to-be-$599 iPhone 8 is a better “SE2” than the 6.1” LCD. But it’s kind of moot because Apple will continue to sell the SE, as the least expensive iPhone. The 6S/6S Plus will continue as well, probably only in the most price-sensitive countries though.

Like I said before, I’m sure Apple would like to be able to sell a 4.7” iPhone instead of a 4.0” at the least expensive price point, so I do think the 4.0” SE is coming to its end. That’s unfortunate for those that like the smaller size, but the vast majority of customers, Android or iOS, simply prefer phones that aren’t so small. Just like you can’t buy a 3.5” iPhone, soon you won’t be able to buy a 4.0” iPhone.

This spring, I think we’ll see a 4.7” SE2, which would be a cost-reduced version of (mostly) iPhone 7-era tech. This may very well be the placeholder “iPhone xx” mystery model that was recently discovered in Xcode.

Sure, but there's nothing to say that Apple can't change any of that with the new cycle of phones. I still mostly disagree, but I appreciate that you put forth a good argument. I don't know why any of us care about these details, but it'll be interesting to see who's right. :)
