I don’t see why upgraded antenna design is of any real consequence for U.S. customers. The LTE iPhones are already capable of much faster throughput than most U.S. customers have ever been able to achieve.

Because real-world conditions are different. More antennas means a lost signal from going in and out of a dead zone can be re-acquired in half the time.

Under conditions where the signal is weak or average, the difference between 5Mbps and 10Mbps could be massive.

The current Qualcomm X16 modem used in the iPhone 8, 8+, and X already supports 4x4 MIMO and 256 QAM. Apple chose to disable those features. Most likely due to the Intel modem not being as capable.

The iPhone X and 8 chassis don't support 4x4 MIMO antennas either.

It looks like I may not get a choice in 2018.
Maybe not, with Apple. At least, there’s no way they’ll drop the ears for a full width bezel; that ship has sailed.

However, if that 6.1” is for real, I don’t know that it gets a notch, it might just get a full width bezel at top (not as large as on the 6/7/8 series though) with minimal bezels on the sides and bottom.

Rounded corners I can believe but I’m not at all sure about a notch on the LCD model.

The 6.1" LCD will 100% have a notch.

The notch says "iPhone." Without it, the phone is another black slab in a sea of Android devices.

Qualcomm modems? I don’t think so after this patent battle.

The modems for 2018 iPhones have already been decided.

Apple is working on choosing modems for 2019 iPhones now. If you read the interview with Apple SVP of Hardware Technologies, they're already designing the A14 processor this year.

Isn't it a bit early for next years rumours? I'm just getting used to my new 8, wake me when the 2019 models are out!

True, but that doesn't mean the situation won't change in the future. You never know what's in store for us years from now.

So this is how iPhones are going to look now for the next 10-15 years. And then they'll get rid of the notch and that's how they'll look for the subsequent decade.

My guess would be they change how they name the phones like "iPhone Edition" or "iPhone Pro"/"iPhone Plus"

The numbering system for the iPhone will continue. It's an integral part of the iPhones history and it shows how Apple ages the older iPhones using the numbering system when new models at announced. Every year it seems to come up where others think the iPhone will be labeled "Pro"Or "Edition", when there's nothing 'Pro' about an iPhone at all.
