I used to have connection problems with my current carrier with frequent dropped connection or it appeared to be connected but there was no internet connection. The connection problem magically went away right after I upgraded to the iPhone X. So I guess the iPhone X already has stronger connection than the 7 series.

Well for what it’s worth 2018 is when I’m planning to jump on board from my 6+

That's going to be a monumental upgrade for you. Everything about the iPhone X is vastly different externally and internally from your iPhone 6 Plus. More so, I look forward to the rumored 6.5 iPhone X in 2018. I like the 5.8 display, but it slightly small for me.

People keep whining about the notch; but I'd take the notch over those giant top and bottom bezels on the old iPhone any day. A bunch of wasted space. Anytime I see other iPhones now I'm just reminded of how archaic that design is.

Spot on, and totally agree. Notch have been absolutely no issue for me.
I even been banned arguing with a guy here who was saying he never heard/read anyone complaining about the bezels on iPhone's. Rather then stating his opinion (which is absolutely fine) he was making it sound that everyone was OK with bezels. In my opinion bezels on iPhone have been one of the biggest complain on iPhone's on the recent years.

Cue the comments from uninformed posters who think 4x4 MIMO and Gigabit LTE have no effect on real-world performance.

It's not about peak throughput. Under weak signal conditions, such as deep inside an office tower, underground, or inside a mall, additional antennas and faster rates make a big difference.
In general, Apple has always lagged behind in actual cellular connectivity. The original iPhone was 2G when 3G was becoming prevalent. It didn’t adopt LTE until 2012, and has always been a year or so behind the latest modems and antennas. Part of it is volume. The high end iPhones outsell the high end Android phones and so securing supply is an issue. And Apple likes to be cautious.

Maybe not, with Apple. At least, there’s no way they’ll drop the ears for a full width bezel; that ship has sailed.

However, if that 6.1” is for real, I don’t know that it gets a notch, it might just get a full width bezel at top (not as large as on the 6/7/8 series though) with minimal bezels on the sides and bottom.

Rounded corners I can believe but I’m not at all sure about a notch on the LCD model.

I would love if they would build a "X" series with a notch and then a new "Plus" model which has thin bezels like Mate10Pro, V30 etc. Like this year they had X and 8 and 8+, next year it would be awesome if they had X, X+ and "9+" with slim bezels. The current plus models would be awesome if their bezels were only 50% of current size. i like the screen on the plus, its perfect.

When will these signals become too strong to be healthy ?

Have you considered that the upgraded antennas allow faster data transmission on the same signal strength as before? Improvement in technology allow more information to be imparted with fewer resources -- much like how advanced video codecs allow higher quality video to be transmitted with lower data bandwidth.

Next time you're at the dentist, ask them about their digital X-Ray system. The same images of your teeth as before, but shot onto a sensor and captured digitally instead of a piece of film. That technique allows them to get the same images with a much much lower amount of X-Rays.

So what are the likely price order of the 2018 phones?
High 6.1 TFT - iPhone 8 plus price
5.8 OLED - Current Price of iPhone X
6.5 OLED - Current Price of iPhone X + $200

So where does that leave those of us that want an iPhone 8 size body at an iPhone 8 size price?

All I see is notches...
The notch is here to stay - it's Apples new home button & is a design choice to differentiate the iPhone from the other phones in the market.

If you see a phone with the display off and a round home button - you immediately know it's an iPhone, even if it was a prototype model that no one had ever seen, you'd still know it was an iPhone.

Apple aren't going to give up that kind of product recognition and if the iPhone X had a purely rectangular screen - it could easily get confused with a.n.other Chinese Android device. But now when you see the notch, you see an iPhone & the two will live together for another 10 years & be as iconic as the round home button.

Incidentally, I too only see notches...

$549 | 8
$669 | 8 Plus
$749 | (6.1" 2018 LCD)
$899 | X (Discontinue?)
$999 | (5.8" 2018 OLED)
$1199 | (6.5" 2018 OLED)

What they gonna call this? An iPhone 8S? iPhone 9 iPhone 11? iPhone X squared? iPhone X2? iPhone XI? I’m confused!?

I think just IPhone and Iphone+ is expected for the 5.8 and 6.5 models, leaving out the number like with the Ipad. However, this doesn’t account for the 6.1 screen. So maybe apple will start using the Pro name here as well. So IPhone Pro, IPhone Pro+, and IPhone to separate the models.

Hardware wise yes . User experience , 6s still has home button and for many that is still a better experience

What does this statement have anything to do with that user upgrading to the iPhone X from the iPhone 6 Plus? Wouldn't that be blatantly obvious that the home button is no longer in existence once someone upgrades from a four-year-old generation device to the iPhone X? Also, What metric are using for 'Many?.
