The new base 13" is faster than my 2016 15" MBP Touch Bar. That's pretty impressive.

Thanks. If you option click the wifi on each, what connection speed do they have to your router? And which router do you have?
Both show a Tx rate fluctuating between 300 and 400 Mbps. It's a Linksys Velop.

The base only has 2 thunderbolt/usb c. So the different PCB’s will take up more space

Jonny said at the original launch that they used all available space inside for the “custom” fit battery. So I guess .2 was lost to Gain 2 more ports

No such thing as a free lunch I’m afraid.
I don’t buy that theory. Such a small increase 0.2 watts is practically nothing but addtional cost if the same vendor is used for the both batteries. As a pessimist my prediction is that cheaper model has battery from company made better offer price the battery. Hopefully it is not from some neverheard brand.

Is 128MB ssd much slower than before in new Pro? I saw one YouTube video of new 128MB Pro and the smallest ssd seemed to have even slower speed than my current Air 2018 128MB ssd. Especially read speed seemed to be only 2/3 what it is in Air, write speed about the same but in my Air it peaks higher than in the video I saw of new Pro.

Can others who have new Pro with 128MB ssd check what results they get?

SSD speeds would be good
Based on what? Have you tested yourself or seen somewhere? Numbers for read/write please.
The test I say only gave around 1200 for read and about 500 write. Even my Air 2018 goes to around 1800/500-600.

I’m asking for an SSD speed test.

Hey! you're the only person I've found to have both. Contemplating the refurb 2018 2.3ghz vs this new 1.4ghz.
Three questions!
1. How are the speakers comparatively?
2. Do you find the fan noise is louder?
3. How's the 'real life' speed, given the lower 1.4ghz non-turbo base clock?

Thanks!!

The Benchmark performance numbers on the new 13” MBP are amazing. I just wonder how it copes with heat. My 15” MacBook Pro in that sense has been amazing with the i7 processor in it.

The new MBP has only one fan, but with that said, I've not seen any complaints. I think Apple honed in on the tweaks in the OS to allow the hardware run w/o throttling.

Didn't they used to have two fans? 1 less fan now?

Wow.

How is the sustained performance compared to the similarly spec'd 2018 i5-8259U?
Since this one has a fan LESS.

we all know geek bunch is crap with sustained performance

I’ve read so many of those threads that they are spaghetti in my mind, but if the 1.4 is that good and is close to the 2.4 in speed, why would one spend another $300 on the 2.4GHz model?

It the 2.4 has two fans and the 1.4 has one, will the 2.4 run cooler? Is there a significant difference in the speed of the two processors, or is there more than meets the eye than mere specs?
