Just four months ahead of September, when Apple typically unveils new iPhones, leaks and rumors are starting to surface fast and frequently.

The latest comes courtesy of Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who tweeted a photo of alleged case molds for a trio of upcoming iPhones over the weekend. If accurate, the molds suggest that all three 2019 models will feature a large square camera bump, as seen in many leaks to date.

iPhone molds like these are typically created based on design specifications and dimensions that leak out of the factories of Apple manufacturing partners such as Foxconn, allowing third-party accessory makers to prepare properly-fitting cases ahead of time, but they are not always accurate.

Alleged next iPhone case moldings show what we discussed in our story last week in terms of new cameras. 3 on the high end, 2 on the new XR. Plus all models apparently getting a square, at least based on this one mold floating around. https://t.co/BhAFTZZL6u pic.twitter.com/QlNJTsApzX - Mark Gurman (@markgurman) May 13, 2019

The rumored design of the camera bump has proven quite controversial since it was first leaked by OnLeaks in January, with many criticizing the look of both the bump itself and the positioning of the camera lenses within the bump.

It is unclear why Apple would use the square bump for the next iPhone XR if rumors about it having a dual-lens rear camera are accurate, as the existing pill-shaped bump used on the iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max would seem sufficient, but perhaps it is merely for consistency.

It's worth noting that the camera design might end up being not quite as polarizing as seen in renders, as rumors suggest that Apple plans to apply a special black coating on some of the lenses that could help them blend into the bezel.

Last week, Gurman said the third camera on the next iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will be an ultra-wide-angle lens that enables a broader range of zoom. The second lens on the next iPhone XR is expected to enable increased zoom as well. The new cameras are also expected to power new augmented reality capabilities.

Not buying this POS design. Wow that's hideous. iPhone 6 camera is good enough for most idiots posting their narcissistic selfies to social media sites. Smartphone filters and simulations requiring sophisticated software and huge camera bumps are laughable to those of us who engage in real photography with real cameras. The best photography on Instagram isn't made with smartphones. The platform's entire raison d'être has been undermined with professional photo shoots using tens of thousands of dollars in real photographic equipment with a talented photographer behind the lens.

Granted this 3D rendered image above is just a guess based an an imaginary future iPhone, it's as if everything is trying to hide behind something else in withering shame: black background, black phone, black camera bump--- like every aspect of the phone is humiliated by that giant camera lump.
But do not fear the ugliness of the 2019! Just wait until you see the 2020 next year. We haven't see nuthin yet in the Mr Ugly dept.

Only 2020 or 2021 will probably have new design when Apple is ready with 5G modem and of course I don't have to talk about the prices then which will be 50% more....until then you get to see tinkering design but lots of colour variations will be flooded in the market with exchange offers after couple of months!!

Might be time to sell my AAPL stock, with this release it the new CC and services will have to pull the weight of phone sales.

Why does the flash and mic module even have to be included in the square, this is just adding to the hideous, what would have been better is just to include 4 cameras on the XS and 2 on the XR. It would keep it clean and balanced, who is running the hardware design department these days at Apple, extraterrestrials.:p;):D

Same was said about the X camera module. It was mocked for looking like a traffic light , now it's a non issue.

The camera area of the XR looks better than the X any day. However there is some balance, not as bad as this though.

iPhone X for the win.

Will wait for the 4 camera option, given the trend it will happen around 2021/22.

Well this is it, so if you are planning an upgrade, learn to like it if you don''t already...either way it should be a significant camera upgrade, so there's that...Final product also tends to look a bit better then the renders and leaks prior...

I think the one large square bump is better than having 3 separate bumps. More uniform looking. But who cares about bumps anyway? I think people just want to complain about something. As someone who uses the iphone as their main travel camera, i personally don’t mind the bump at all. I just welcome 3 cameras!

Well, at this point, I guess we will have to accept this is what the iPhone would look like in the Fall. Oh well, at least we won't be surprised in four months.

How is it controversial?
It just is. You need space to put three cameras and flash. Might as well put them altogether in a square.

Such silly "controversy." People said the same thing about the original camera bump, then about the dual-cam setup, and despite all the protestations about how Apple was doomed and it was time to sell their stock, consumers still bought it. Now people are complaining about something that, frankly, they never really look at and never will.

When you buy an iPhone you almost certainly also buy a case, and the case makes the whole camera set flush with the case, so you don't notice it. In fact, no one really cares, day to day, about the positioning of the multiple cameras. If you don't want the cameras, don't buy the phone. If you don't use instagram but see value in the rest of the package, then buy what works for you. Getting agitated over something so silly is ridiculous.
