I think a smaller notch would look worse. I'm not sure why, but for some reason, the camera cutout on the Essential Phone looks worse for me, than the one on the X. Maybe it has to do with ratio or something?
Anyway, they should leave the notch as it is, or remove it entirely!

People aren't bitching about the notch so much as they are the "ears" on either side. Apple said to embrace the notch, but if they had made the ear backgrounds a constant black, it would have been much less of an issue.

Keep the notch the same size and cramp more stuff in that space like more cameras, mics, speakers, sensors, buttons, scanners, ports.
Specifically what are all the errors bugs and quirks you're talking about? What exact issues are you experiencing with face ID on your iPhone X?

People that actually HAVE the iPhone X, does the notch even bother you?
I’ve had 1 since launch day and have zero issues with the notch. You don’t even notice it while using the phone! Lol
And I mean, it doesn’t even bother me when it comes to the few videos I watch on my phone.

Meh... even if they make the notch half the size the haters will still hate it and the lovers/acceptors won't really care. Seems kinda pointless unless you can 100% remove the notch.
All of us happy iPhone X users will be able to buy the next one too.
Btw, you’re pretty much always a beta tester in technology. Face ID 2 with combined cameras will have its own quirks, buddy.
Btw, current FaceID is gold...works great.

i'm going to have to disagree. i went form a 7+ to an X. i love the phone but when in landscape it feels small unless i expand video content and then notch blocks 1/8th of the screen
