In that
I charge my phone overnight when I sleep, and I'm usually north of 80% battery when it goes on the charger 18 hours later, so fast charging and the heat and battery degradation that comes with it is useless. Not to mention, I wirelessly charge anyway, which thankfully is capped at 7.5W. Wish it was still 5W though.
You can always use your old charger. There is no reason to not have the 18W charger in the box.

Yes there is; most people won't need it, but it adds cost for everyone and is a huge waste of resources.
Also your average user won't know how the charging current affects battery degradation and just always use the charger that came in the box.
No charger in the box at all would be the sensible thing to do, but probably not practical even with a voucher for a free one with every iPhone purchase.

it's too late when you already have other mfg's that have there phones with 40w chargers in the box.

Listen to yourself. "No charger in the box would be the sensible thing to do". What are you thinking? As for the battery degradation, if a person need to use a phone, let them use a phone. They might drain battery faster than you, want to charge faster than you and degrade faster than you, then let them do. You already have your tiny cool charger, why do you care? Add cost, yeah right. They already add the cost to the price with $1000 phone. WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE DEFENDING APPLE?

Once a innovator just can't keep up with others. The world is moving too fast for Apple. If the next iPhone isn't great but just another lame duck milking product, I'll be done with Apple for good.

If they want to do that, they're free to get a more powerful charger. Need not even be from Apple, there are much cheaper alternatives like Anker.

Whatever charger you put in the box, a lot of people will just use that one most of the time.
While another lot of people just take the phone out and throw the box away with all that's left inside.

Since most people already have multiple USB chargers, omitting the one in the box would make a lot of sense for the environment. iPods have come without chargers for over a decade.

What the hell is Apple doing!?

I need on kind of charging cable for my ipad, a different one for my iPhone, and nether cables plug into my laptop, with out another adapter!!

This is a joke!!

Apple is doomed. Just take a look at the mess: We have USB type A to Lighning cables almost everywhere (iPhones, Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad).
We don't have any USB-A ports anymore (MBP, MB, iMac?) so no one can charge its shiny new Magic Keyboard on a MBP - at least not without buying an extra adapter or a USB-C to Lightning cable. Next we now have an iPad Pro with USB-C which is great, but all the other new iPads ship with Lightning again so we're all back in adapter hell.

The only way for Apple would be to switch to an USB-C type connector for all devices and accessories, like
- ALL iPads
- iPhones
- Keyboards
- Trackpads

Apple once was known for "just works". Nowadays you have to know that the latest Apple Pencil doesn't work with latest iPad Air

Apple is doomed because they are no longer "just works" because you don't like using an adapter? I think it's going to take them a few generations to switch over, but they will get there.

iPod classic costs $249. iPhone costs $649 (being generous here). What a wonderful comparison!
If you want to save environment so much then replace just the battery, not the whole phone. But you can’t/economically not sensible to do because the cost of replacing battery is so high and require a lot of breaking into the phone. Such a hypocrite (i mean Apple) calling for green solution while creating more electronic junk.

What are you even talking about? Apple offers replacing the battery at pretty low cost, for the whole last year it was even down to 29 bucks for most models, now it's 49 for most, still pretty good.
However changing the battery yourself isn't hard to do at all, on any iPhone except the very first one.

Allowing people to hold onto their devices for years, or pass them down to others is the green thing to do. Bundling a high-power charger with every iPhone doesn't contribute to that, quite the contrary.

I wasn't comparing iPhones to iPods, that was a mere example to show that shipping a device without a charger isn't without precedent.

It's exactly what I want them to do. Please Tim, Jony, read this post!
Yes, this would have been courage. Although first they need to make Qi charging faster, more reliable and make it somehow possible to unbrick the phone without the port.

I wish Qi charging would be as fast as wired fast charging. As soon as Apple launches AirPower I am going to buy it.

If it was a true upgrade it would have a headphone jack....

People need to get over the headphone jack already. Everything has Bluetooth nowadays. Unless you live in 2007 and have auxiliary cords. The headphone jack is dead technology.

If Bluetooth were one hundred percent reliable and had no pairing or stability issues, I would agree with you. But this is far from the case. If you don't like putting up with dropouts, broken connections or pairing problems, cable connections are still the way to go and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

Which is a nice way to give middle fingers to everyone who cares about music consumption. But, I guess this is ok.

I would also wish a revolutionary charging solution that can charge all devices within a range, without the need of a charging cord. With that being said, it would be impossible to install those chargers everywhere.

Nice easy title, at least:

"
2017 2018 2019 iPhones May Include 18W Fast Charger and USB-C to Lightning Cable"

Also if you like quality, aux is still where it’s at. Bluetooth won’t be a legit alternative for audiophiles until it sounds as good as aux ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have been saying this for long, AUX is not just ubiquitous, you get more output quality for less energy consumption. I hate this Bluetooth push, at least give the user the option to choose.
