With Trump's executive order today mandating all American companies to seek manufacturing outside of China I wonder how this will effect the next gen iPhone? I believe Apple has stated they have enough non-China manufacturing to source all iPhones sold in the US. This may put them to the test to see if that is really true. I wonder how the timeline for the release might be influenced by this new wrinkle.
It wasn’t an executive order, it was a tweet. Main effect seemed to be tanking the stock market, but almost certainly no effect on the release of new iPhones in a couple weeks.

Although he did make a good move increasing tariffs for sep 1. Hopefully Apple products are affected. But probably not iphone.

"Interestingly, he adds that the new iPhones should better withstand drops due to an unspecified "new shatter-resistance technology."

more resistance to shattering however i bet i can still make one shatter

Hey Tim Apple,
I used to watch all the Apple keynotes, but haven't watched any of them in the past two years.
I used to walk by the Apple Store and the reality distortion field would pull me in. Haven't been inside an Apple Store in almost a year.
I used to spend money I didn't have on the latest apple gadgets because I had to have them. Now I have a lot of money and you have no product I want.

“Improved shatter resistance”. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Shatterproof? That’s when you put a little parachute on the phone triggered by the accelerometer like a Cirrus airplane and on the downside a little balloon pops open to keep the phone from breaking.

Or you make it completely out of plastic like a Nokia feature phone.

In other news, the Apple iPhone X design going into the 3rd year is just disappointing. For the first time I'm seriously considering a Samsung, the Note 10+.

The only things holding me back;
- no mirror-like backup
- no imsg
- no ecosystem compatibility with Macbook
- adjustment period in adapting a completely new OS
- workflow + continuity will be affected (also an adaptation issue)

People aren’t really leaving for Android they are just keeping their iPhone for longer

That is true in my house. My wife still has an iPhone 6s and I'm still using an iPhone 7+. We have no intention on leaving the Apple ecosystem, it's that we can't justify upgrading as often as we used to in the early days.

You're getting older. So am I. Someday we will be dead and no use to Apple anymore.

That’s what I decided to do this year. Wait for the public release. I always jump on the beta train but decided to wait it out this year. I hope it breathes a breath of fresh air into the XS Max, and prevent me from upgrading.
I definitely feel like it does! Enough to where I'm on the fence about upgrading to this year's new phone. But I also have the XS Max, so I'm not in desperate need of an upgrade lol. Some folks are though, and for them a software update, no matter great it is, just might not be enough.

I definitely understand the people with older devices wanting to upgrade even if their phone will support iOS 13.

Well that’s just not true. I got my iPhone X on launch day and have used it everyday for almost two years. Two days ago I accidentally got in the pool with my phone in my pocket and didn’t realize it for several minutes. I quickly took it out of my pocket and dried it off and it was totally fine. It may not have amazing water resistance but it absolutely has more than “zero”.

Not my experience.

Water EVERYWHERE, from camera to CPU. Submerged in 20cm of water for approx 5 seconds.
