I hope Russell is not burning up his tyres too quickly. Looks like Mercedes are putting Bottas long. Maybe strategy to help him jump Russell?

Wouldn’t be surprised if Bottas’ has a long strategy. Either way, very impressed with Russell so far. First time I’m cheering for a Merc in years!

Well Mercedes just screwed both their drivers on that stop, but Russel really took it in the arse.

Could be a Racing Point win now.

Congratulations to Sergio. Well deserved.

Stellar performance by Russell in the one race where Mercedes steps on their toes all race. At least he earned points. 👍

Great Track. Looking forward to next year.

Well said. Looking forward to next year for sure!

Russell very impressive. Is Ola now asking why not pickup George for 5 mill instead of Lewis for 40? Too soon? :D

Well done to Russell, what a race by him! A lot of eyes were in him this weekend but it was actually the team that underperformed which is amusing. He kept his nerve and is definitely a driver to watch. Mercedes would be mad not to take a chance on him in the near future instead of Bottas. Two Brits in the Brackley team would be awesome too.

Instead of Bottas, not Lewis. Mercedes look at the bigger picture in terms of marketability and Bottas doesn’t have the appeal to drive car sales in certain markets. Having one of the best F1 drivers in history in your team who appeals at a youth level is valuable even at $40m. Russell and Lewis would be a great partnership IMO.

Toto just alluded to this in the post race.

Brilliant drive from Russell, he handled everything thrown at him and in the end, it was simply out of his hands. Absolute shambles from Mercedes in the pits. Even with that, Russell could have won the race if not for bad luck.

As gutted as I was for Russell, really happy for Perez. While Albon continues to prove he's out of his depth, Perez consistently shows why he should be in that Red Bull next season. Great result for Ocon as well. Fingers crossed they keep the same layout next year.

Funniest comment on Twitter about Bottas' seat, "put Grosjean" in there. 😂

Shame Perez cannot get a seat with his credentials and sponsorship. I don't see Red Bull picking him up since he is not an RBJT graduate and they really seem to like to promote from within (with Jüri Vips likely next in line for an F1 seat though I expect he will need to do a full year in F2, first).

I'm half expecting RBR and AT to swap Gasly and Albon again in 2021, but Albon is higher in the WDC so they may keep them where they are.

How do you go from being the luckiest guy in F1 (handed the keys to Lewis’s car for the weekend), to the unluckiest. What an absolute shame for Russell. He did everything right. Yes I’m glad Perez got a result, but I think Mercedes gave it to them in a plate.
Max showed his usual spoilt brat routine kicking the wall he’d just driven into.
Today’s big loser is Bottas. Even before the tyre shambles he had been outclassed by his team mate in the start and the restart.

Bloody say it again! I'm still miffed that Bottas has his seat at Mercedes...

Brilliant performance by Russell. Well above pretty much everyone's expectations.

Except I would say this: Lewis Hamilton would have won that race. Maybe not the twenty-something Hamilton who started racing in 2007. But the multiple-championship Hamilton of 2020 would have over-ruled his team and told them "Don't box me, man!" What did Mercedes think they were going to gain by boxing (let alone double-stacking) during that safety car? Tire degradation had been far less than anticipated the entire race. The drivers could tell, and certainly both Mercedes could make it to the end on the hard tires. Leaving them out front would leave them in their preferred position - leading the race.

Very happy for Perez and Racing Point to have a victory. The bad luck at last week's race is finally repaid. Don't know how, but Checho deserves a seat in F1.

He picks up enough points. But he’s not in the top 10 drivers on the grid.
Which is why he’s so perfect for the seat. If you want to win the constructors championship (which in money terms for the teams is the one that counts) you don’t want your drivers squabbling over the same piece of road during the race but you do want both to score as many points as possible.

It would be interesting to see Russell and how he behaves alongside Lewis who has been his idol up until now. Does he have the ruthless instinct to shoulder barge Lewis aside to make his mark or would he be a complying number two? I think Mercedes should be looking at the future now as Lewis is in the latter quarter of his F1 career and Russell’s generation are the future. They’d be in trouble if Lewis retired and Bottas became lead driver as I don’t think he’s good enough personally. He’s a great number two and doesn’t create any tension that we know of however.

Russell certainly impressed for me and if I were Toto I’d be getting his signature on a contract for 2022.
