There is something to be said about tradition. When I was in Switzerland and got a engraved Swiss Army Knife, even though they were offered in other colors like white and black, IMHO the only option was red.

Love my SG, but I put a case on it anyways. I went with Navy this time around, but otherwise have had black

have you ever had discoloration from using the case?

I've also seen a few pictures with discoloration from using stickers, so I wonder if I should get a silver one now or if the issue is fixed.
 
Waiting on my first Mac, a MacBook Air in Space Gray. I have no reference point. My iphone 7 is black. Would love to see a black MacBook.
 
For what it's worth, I've owned a SG MacBook Pro since they first came out in October 2016. The only place where the anodisation has worn away is around the edges of the USB-C ports, otherwise it looks brand new. I do wish it was a bit darker - I think if I was buying a new MacBook today, I'd choose silver as I now see SG models everywhere!

No such issues on my 2016 12" SG. My 2020 Air is too new to tell.
 
I appreciate the classic look of silver, especially given the quality of hiding surface scratches better.
However I purchase space gray for a darker and more immersive approach to watching movies.
 
If space gray is an option, it is what I go with. I've been bored of silver for a long time now. My old 2017 MBP space gray held up fine.
 
SG does look great, I’ve had it the last 5 years. I’m going with Silver on my next one just for change. It will remind me of my old 2011 MBA.
 
Silver, Silver, Silver. About to order my 3rd silver MacBook Pro. My Wife also uses a 13" classic MBP from 2012. I still admire it's design, also because it's silver, and that ages so well!
For me, Space Grey always has a kind of purple-touch in it. Also I like my computer stuff "positive", which means somehow bright & light. Never used dark mode. Still having that green grass wallpaper Steve Jobs used during the 2007 WWDC Leopard keynote. Silver Mac, that wallpaper - will not change (unless someone offers me a ton of money for it ;) )!

I ordered a Space Gray MBA this time. My daughter has a SG MBP from work and I really like the color. Figured I'd give it a try this time. Honestly, I could have gone either way. The external color is not a big deal for me. As long as it's not bright red or orange. Or lime green. Black/Gray/Silver is all fine though.
 
I went with Space Grey since it was something new coming from a Silver 2015 MBP. I would've gone Gold had it been an iPad Mini 4 Gold and not a Rose Gold.
