Can someone enlighten me on how Nico cheated Lewis out of the 2016 title and why he showed bad sportsmanship? Certainly not how I remember it.

he didn't.

the lewie fans on here have been bitter ever since he got his ass beat that year.

I’m certainly not bitter about it, I’d be a complete moron to be bitter over one season and especially as Hamilton is now a 7 time world champion lol. I enjoyed 2016 as the rivalry got tense at Mercedes and it was entertaining. Lewis was the better driver that year in terms of personal driver performance and nobody would disagree with that. It was a rare year where his mechanical reliability was worse than his teammates and Nico benefitted from it and rightly so. He achieved his dream of matching his Dad and that was the end of his story. Think AFB was being tongue in cheek but I probably get that better as we are from the same country lol.

Imagine if there was a behind the scenes documentary at Mercedes then! It would have been very tense.

Hi Michael,

Can someone enlighten me on how Nico cheated Lewis out of the 2016 title
> Not sure we will ever know all the inter team shenanigins throughout the 2016 season. The Mercedes corporate media machine will have closed ranks and glossed all over this by now.
> Also, not sure I want to know all the nasty niggley details, it is history, whats done is done. Well done Nico for winning the WC!

Some references if it helps though - Insight from Toto, their manager throughout the warfare years:

So he won it fair and square. Toto is hardly going to come out and criticise his current and most successful driver ever. I'm sure there were mind games going on between both drivers. It was the DNF in Malaysia that really cost Lewis that year.

Still think it was poor of Mercedes to tell Lewis to speed up instead of trying to back Nico into the possibility of being overtaken during that last race. They'd already won the constructors. At least they admitted they were wrong to ask that of him.

Lewis will long been remembered as the driver with the most victories and WC after he retires I’m sure. I recall thinking Schumacher’s records would never be broken, but here we are not even 20 years later and they are history.
Obviously depends on if Lewis continues on and if Mercedes are still the right package, but you could see him continuing to extend those numbers. The slightly misleading one is total wins though.
The likes of Senna and Prost only had 12-15 races a season. Now it’s like 23 so you would expect modern drivers to have the advantage there. That said they still have to go out and beat the opposition. There are no spare cars like there used to be back in the day so it gets difficult to compare like for like.
Anyway I’m afraid Monaco next week will not be a highlight for me. It’s usually a dull race decided on Saturday.

I'm getting in early and predicting a DNF for both Lewis and Max at Monaco.

Nico would be a long way down my list of great WDC drivers, probably somewhere close to Jenson 🙃

They should use this livery all season long.

@Crazy Badger = I could live with that and maybe Lando or Riccardo take the win...? It'd be a shame for this beautiful car not to get the top spot.

In all the years of following Formula One I never realised the F1 branded company employ engineers. I am currently working with engineers at F1.com on a project and had always assumed this type of thing would be outsourced rather than designed in-house. Maybe an evolution of the company since Bernies departure? Just thought I’d share as it is a weird one lol.

Shows he's the future at McLaren.

Sensible choice by Lando I think. McLaren have made good progress these last few years and seem to have found their development mojo again. He’s got a good partner in Danny too.

When is Bruninho coming back?

Lifetime ban?
I doubt a lifetime ban, I'm sure the thread will soon be blessed with his immense knowledge and understanding of the sport us mere mortals can only dream of.

Perez might have topped the time sheets, but he was on the faster tyre. Sainz right up there for Ferrari. But I never read much into it until FP3 when they get ready for qualifying.

The McLaren really does look nice. Heard it mentioned on Sky they have cameras on the front wing we might get to see footage of.
