Because they handed out points for qualifying results and no proper racing.

And yes, there was a reason for double points awarded. The reason being a stupid experiment in 2014 that was never to be repeated.

So you just don't like the fact they didn't race but still got points, even though what they did was as per the rules and has been used multiple times before. I cannot see any problem with what they did, to me they did the best they could given the situation. And I'm pleased for George getting on the podium.
It's a situation where you either don't like it or see no problem with it, no middle ground really. Perhaps it's more upsetting for Perez's crew busting a gut to rebuild the front of the car, and getting the Marshalls to agree he could rejoin the race, just so he could finish last.

I'm sure normal racing will resume this weekend.

I said it was safe because you seem to wanted the race totally abandoned. What is your issue with them handing out the half points anyway? I don’t remember the season where they handed out double points, why did they do it? I’m sure there was a reason.

Again I don’t understand what your problem is here? They did the best they could, used the existing rules to give out the points they could and left it at that.
Actually they changed the rules so they didn’t have to abandon the race and issue refunds.

Give it a rest. Making out it was all fine and dandy because it was "in the rules". And saying it's happened multiple times before is a load of crap because it was the shortest "race" in F1 history and all behind a safety car.

Half points have been part of the formal regulations since at least 1975 and six races have been awarded half points:

1975 Spanish Grand Prix: Called at 29 laps of 75 (39%) due to a fatal accident with spectators.
1975 Austrian Grand Prix: Called at 29 of 54 laps (54%) due to heavy rain.
1984 Monaco Grand Prix: Called at 31 of 76 laps (46%) due to heavy rain.
1991 Australian Grand Prix: Called at 14 of 81 laps (17%) due to heavy rain.
2009 Malaysian Grand Prix: Called at 31 of 56 laps (55%) due to torrential rain.
2021 Belgian Grand Prix: Called at 4 of 44 laps (9%) due to heavy rain.

Since Australia '91 was called at only 17%, guess we should consider that one a "farce" of a race, as well (watched that one live).

But wasn’t there parts of the 14 laps when you were allowed to overtake? Not saying it was a great race, but probably better than the parade we saw Sunday.

I think the fact they're now looking into rule changes says it all.

Yes they were allowed to overtake, but pretty much everyone who tried ended up in the wall because the conditions were far worse than what we saw at Spa. First cars started going off at Lap 3 and first real shunts started at Lap 5. By Lap 10 the Brabham Straight was blocked with wrecked cars and by Lap 16 the front straight was also blocked with wrecks. With most of the track now under local yellows due to wrecks everywhere, they finally Red Flagged it on Lap 17 and the rains never let up so they called it soon after.
The example of the '91 Australian race is most informative - consider the damage that resulted from permitting the race to be run under such circumstances, and the risk to the drivers. Very likely something similar would have resulted this year if actual racing had been conducted prior to the race being called.

The point made by @michael9891 is exactly right - there is a recognition that how this was handled should not be repeated in the future. It was in accordance with the current rules but that is about it.

Kimi to retire at the end of the season. I think it’s the right decision. He needs to move aside for some young talent.
I’ll post my number here in case the boss of Alfa Romeo is reading.

Looks like multiple media reports are saying Bottas to Alfa is a done deal. And there are claims Alfa wants to move from Ferrari to Mercedes drivetrains, so that could play a role. Ola Källenius, head of Mercedes-Benz, is on the board of the group that owns the Alfa team.

It would be cool if the name was changed back to Sauber too. It all seems like empty marketing when these car companies don’t provide the engines for cars they’ve got their names associated with. Same with Aston Martin.

Hmm Mercedes playing politics again it seems then, not that F1 is anything but political. Still good to see George in Mercedes it it’s true. Been a long time coming, I think their will be fireworks between him and Lewis though. Let’s hope it’s on the track too. Wonder if George will handle being number 2 driver?

He was fine sacrificing his own race the other week for his team mate so I think he can play the team game. He may not want to play the number 2 role for more than a season though as he’s clearly competitive. It will be good to see an all British line up in the Brackley team though, purely for selfish reasons lol.

Totally agree that the Alfa name should only be used if they source their engines from the car brand. Or at least from another Fiat company like Ferrari.

But then why name it Sauber when Peter Sauber isn’t running the show anymore, isn’t that as hollow a pretend?

True, it was purely for nostalgia reasons and if they get a Mercedes power plant, it would be like the early 90’s again as they are effectively the evolution of that team. Totally silly really, and just as silly I suppose as having a car brand attached to a different car companies engine for marketing purposes. Saying that my mates A-Class Merc is running a Renault engine lol.

I'm sorry, but if you think the financial implications weren't part of the decision-making process on Sunday you are naive. Did you listen to any of the commentaries? They pretty much said the same, so it's hardly my opinion.

Hamilton and Vettel both suffered engine-related on-track stoppages during P1 and P2, respectively, but no word yet whether or not they will need engine /component swaps and if so, any penalties might be in play.

I wonder if all that sand might be wrecking havoc?
