hmm

I wonder if all that sand might be wrecking havoc?

From watching P1 and P2 I’d be more concerned with all the gravel getting thrown on track. Valid point on the sand. No power unit is happy ingesting an abrasive material.

How many practice, qualifying, and races on Lewis’ power unit? It’s still #2 on the season, yes?

Sky seemed to imply he had hit the allowed limits on "regulated" components, so if any of those are swapped, I am guessing he will incur a penalty. But they also noted there is a fair bit of kit that can be swapped without penalty.

Mercedes just released a statement that he had “abnormal oil system behavior.” However, he was running a high milage unit in Practice with plans to switch to a lower mileage unit for qualifying and the race. So no penalties should be in play.

Good. No one wants to see penalties inter-fear with racing.

So Kimi now misses the GP because he’s tested positive for Covid.

Surely the rules for isolating for being in contact with someone who tested positive should come into play? Kimi would have come in to contact with the majority of the paddock, tv/media people etc.

That’s why they are wearing face masks and doing social distancing… And everyone is being tested anyway as far as I know.

Being 2m apart and wearing a mask won't stop you getting it. He'll still have come into contact with lots of people and can take a few days for a positive test to show, that's why people isolate.

I don’t want to get further into this argument, but I’ll just say that this isn’t the first positive case in the F1 and I don’t remember any of the large-scale quarantines as you’ve described (except at the very start of course). Anyway, we’ll find out.

I'm not arguing, just saying with all the supposedly strict F1 protocols in place, I'm amazed a driver testing positive in the middle of a race weekend won't have put lots of others at risk of catching it.

It's a shame that Kimi will miss this weeks race given that it's his last year in F1. Quite a coincidence for him to test positive just a day or so after announcing his retirement.

The circuit this weekend looks like it will be quite interesting. Anxious to watch qualifying and the race!
