That makes two of us as I’ve been watching for more than 30 years too. I think he’s a solid driver personally and once he finds his groove I think he’ll bring in some consistent points.

He actually started from the pit lane because his car cut out on the warm-up lap, resulting in a second warm-up lap. Pit lane start to fifth...pretty decent show I would say.As expected, Perez was slow and complete disaster. Not different from Gasly/Albon. Starts 9th and finishes 5th almost a minute behind the three leaders.
Did you actually watch the race? It was exciting, lots of action and a P1 battle until the flag, with 0.7s separating Hamilton and Verstappen.Verstappen P1, Perez P9, it's the beginning of the end for Perez career. Good. Verstappen and Norris are the only ones on this grid where I can see a brutal talent. I just wish F1 could fix itself to return to the good times.

You seem to have left out the part where Perez started last.As expected, Perez was slow and complete disaster. Not different from Gasly/Albon. Starts 9th and finishes 5th almost a minute behind the three leaders.
The second Red Bull car is expected to fight Mercedes. That’s what Horner and Marko want for all races.
Instead he was fighting McLaren, Ferrari and a Green Mercedes. He’s a joke saved by TelCel money.
I said it before and I will repeat, they should’ve signed Hulkenberg. Better than Perez as a qualifier and much more consistent with his lap by lap times. Hulk just didn’t have luck when the chances for a podium appeared for him. Same thing happened to Albon, if it weren’t for Hamilton punting him out twice, Albon would have more two podiums and a better chance to retain his seat. For crying out loud, he was on his way to win the Styrian GP when this happened.
Boring race as usual. F1 hasn’t changed a bit to fix their problems. 👎🏼
Doesn't matter. You seem to have left out the part where Perez started last.
Oh, so he should have finished 3rd or higher then? 😂Doesn't matter.
The RBR is a car capable of reaching a podium from dead last. Both RB and Mercedes cars are.
Perez is terribly slow.
Yes. A sound and strong yes, because Verstappen would’ve done that in his situation.Oh, so he should have finished 3rd or higher then? 😂
When you say you've been watching F1 for over 30 years, obviously you mean you've been glancing at the screen every now & then and that qualifies you as an expert.Yes. A sound and strong yes, because Verstappen would’ve done that in his situation.

If you're going to come on here with a clear bias against someone and a "I've been watching for over 30 years so I know everything" attitude on a public forum, then I have a right to comment on it.Fun fact: You don't know me so you have zero rights to talk about me and/or how much I know about F1.
So I enjoyed the season opener. Great race between Lewis and Max there at the end. I’m the end Max couldn’t quite get the job done. Will those few points be the difference in 1st and 2nd in the WC title race come the end of the season? Hard to say at this point.
I need to see a few more races to see how close things are, as one track isn’t enough to say. Certainly closer than the start of other seasons. RBR always develop well so the championship might be won and list in Milton Keynes.
Not sure why the hate for Perez. Started last (not his fault). Finished 5th. With a decent qualifying he’d have been on the podium. Just remember how few hours he has had in that car. Less testing this year.
The colours might have changed but little else for Vettel. Poor qualifying. Poor race pace, then crashes. Penalty points to boot. A weekend to forget.
I think Perez will do better as he learns the car. But if he’d have started in his qualifying I think he’d have been 3rd. Bottas days must be numbered. It certainly looks closer this year after round one. I hope the Bulls can push Lewis close this year as he is at his best when it’s wheel to wheel and we get the entertainment we’ve been lacking to years now. Perez was considered for driver of the race after his pretty damned good recovery from last. Maybe that initial setback gave him some valuable experience with settling into that car? I would imagine Red Bull are very happy with his performance.
I think @Bruninho is Bruno Senna...I think we are being played here folks, don’t bother.
Terribly slow, yet he’s the only driver to have ever won a race after being last on the first lap.Doesn't matter.

I am hoping for Hamilton and Russell in a Mercedes. But I feel Hamilton will retire if he wins this year.I think Perez will do better as he learns the car. But if he’d have started in his qualifying I think he’d have been 3rd. Bottas days must be numbered.
You know he did not do that on his own merit right?Terribly slow, yet he’s the only driver to have ever won a race after being last on the first lap.
The race is the race. But still it has never happened before. Maybe luck fell in his favour, but you still need to perform. You know he did not do that on his own merit right?
There is no maybe: luck did fell on his favor, like it happened before to one time wonders like Panis, Herbert, Maldonado, Gasly and Perez. The list is full of crap drivers that happened to be on right place and right time even though they did not have the skill to win on their own.The race is the race. But still it has never happened before. Maybe luck fell in his favour, but you still need to perform.
Imagine how lucky you must be to finish 4th in the drivers championship while being such a slow driver.
But you need more than luck and a year old Mercedes to finish 4th in the championship. Particularly when your team mate in the same car finishes 11th.
Only twice in his F1 career has he finished behind his team mate. (lost once in his first year, then against button in 2013).
2014, 2015, 2016 his team mate was Hulkenberg, who Perez beat in each of those 3 years.
In only 3 of his season in F1 did Hulkenberg out score his team mate.
Your performance against a team mate is the only true indicator of performance of a driver, and unless you have data showing otherwise. All the evidence otherwise shows that Perez performs better over a season than Hulkenberg.
