In the interviews both Lewis and Toto say they should have pitted much earlier, so why didn’t they? As I said their strategy can get messed up sometimes, it’s definitely a weak point for the team.

I seriously expected Lewis to win, the Merc was the better car on the track and he had a new engine. But the strategy failed them again.

In the dry, the Mercedes would have had a 1-2 IMO today. But the rain brought the field much closer together.
Glad to see Bottas get his (last?) win.
The strange thing was new tyres were not making guys quicker. Normally some new rubber makes a big difference.
Id have preferred to see a Ferrari podium. Think they both did well today.

Think the racing line was too dry for the new Inters to make a difference, the slick 30+ lap old Inters were working and holding up incredibly well. Roll on the next race.

It was a strange one. If the track had been drying just a bit, Vettel could have played a blinder. Still think Max will win the title. But not by much. It would be great if it went to the last race with them on level points! Winner takes all. Trouble is one will be in front. If the other tried to overtake, we all know how that would go!

Hahaha the great Mercedes strategy 2000 computer strikes again. I think Mercedes have just lost themselves the championship. We will see though, but time and again Mercedes mess up their strategy.
I think it will take more than that...

Boring race though. Nice to see "Checo" on the podium.

Lewis was comfortable on his used Inters and did not want to pit as it would have put him behind Perez again and he did not want to burn the tires trying to get past him (again).

The strange thing was new tyres were not making guys quicker. Normally some new rubber makes a big difference.

As others have noted, it was too wet for slicks (as they could not get sufficient heat in them), but while new Inters started a bit faster, they were overheating very quickly and losing grip. However, that overheating period only lasted a few laps and then they came back and gripped better than the extremely used Inters of those who were using their original set.

So Lewis, IMO, made a mistake by not pitting with the others in the Top 5 as he would have "fallen off the cliff" at the same time, but I think his car control skill would have allowed him to push harder and he might have been able to move up to the podium (3rd). But by waiting, Lewis suffered his drop-off point after LeClerc and Perez had gotten past the drop-off point of their tires and therefore he could not push to close the gap and attempt overtakes.

Think it was a really interesting race. Fair play to Ocon lasting without pitting. I think it was really damage limitation from the Merc team. I don't think they wanted to risk the tyres exploding, particularly as Lewis was looking quite quick. Loved the HAM PER battle. Nice wheel to wheel stuff from HAM.

I will add that I thought Red Bulls one off livery looked fantastic! Less is more for that cars colour! Shame it's a one off as confirmed by Horner when he was asked after the race :(

A bit like McLarens Gulf livery the other weekend that looked just as fantastic.

I'm curious regarding the new circuit at Miami. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information available online, the circuit map is easily found but not much else. With just over 6 months until that race, and the circuit (plus all of the other supporting facilities, I assume) still under construction, it seems very difficult to know if it will be a good circuit for F1, or not.

It’s a street circuit. So not under construction. Just laid out before the race. Let’s pray it’s a better track than Monaco. The dullest race of the season.

If it will use existing street (and I assume parking lot) surface then I'm not enthusiastic, but surely they will be doing some serious work on the surface in order to make it suitable for these speeds . . .

Usually they put barriers up, weld the drain covers in place and paint the corners etc. I do think it’s strange to have it during the European part of the season. I’d have though having the two US ones back to back would make more sense.

So what is the condition of the track surface at COTA?

Didn't the MotoGP guys complain about chunks of asphalt flying around?
