Absolutely disgusted with the race director for that. Just make a decision and stick with it. Changing their mind about the back markers was a terrible decision.
If Lewis had known that earlier, he might have stopped.

It’s such an anticlimax and dreadful for the fans. I actually feel sorry for Max as it’s a farce of a way to get your first title. I’m sure he’s happy right now but when the dust settles it will sink in.

Right turning it off and back to my Sunday haha!!

I do not know how to feel about this...

FIA should have Red Flagged after the crash if they wanted a truly fair fight - reform under the SC and do a rolling re-start with a few laps.

The Safety Car was too late to affect the outcome. If they allowed the lapped cars to pass they would have had to end under the SC and if they did not allow lapped cars to pass, Lewis was WDC.

So they did this....I don't know what to call this...

Lewis knew Max would wreck him before he gave way so Lewis had to back off and let Max take the win and the WDC.

Oh my God I can't believe he did it!!!

What did I say about those rules... and Mercedes strategy...

They only let some lapped cars unlap themselves. The ones between the two leaders. The rest were not. So is it one rule or the other? To make that call so late and then end the SC at the same time. It was not letting them race. It was giving the win to Max.

I 100% feel for Mercedes. Their pit strategy was proper for what they expected to happen - frankly, what arguably should have happened.

But RBR rolled the dice twice tonight on pit strategy and they came up 7 and 11.

Well it was better than the two plowing into each other, but yeah, Lewis fans will never forget or forgive this - doubly so if Lewis is never able to get his 8th.

But man, hard questions needs to be asked and answered over the off-season about FIA officiating at the Formula One level. Not just for this final call, or even all the calls this race, but for a lot of calls at a lot of races this season.

It was a terrible way to end the championship.

I'm ecstatic! But I did say about those rules...

The drivers said they want to be allowed to race, their words at the beginning of the season, and they seemed to have thrown the rule book out for the year to do that...

But hell we've had some racing this year.

Perhaps a case of be careful what you wish for?

But I stand by my stance I don't think RB will be as competitive next year with a new engine. I suspect Lewis will walk it next year.

Agreed there was to much controversy all season long. They need to sort this. Also explain why they changed their minds.
Personally I’d prefer it if they didn’t broadcast the constant whining to the race director.
Lewis in the post race interview shows a lot of dignity. Not complaining about it being unfair.

Silly is the new normal this season. Both Max and Lewis would’ve deserved it and such a last-race and then even the last-lap decider was a thrilling way to end it. RBR gambled with the pits and won. Never been so nervous, my god. Crazy stuff.

No one knows what happens next year. New rules. New teams at the front perhaps. Time will tell.

Exactly. The race is resumed for only one lap, Max with new soft tires, Lewis with heavily worn hards, and Max with the 12 second gap completely removed. Considering that Lewis was faster throughout the entire race, the result was not representative of the ability of the two cars & drivers.

And I agree, Lewis showed great class at the end. He was worried throughout the race about his tires. He'g going to be fighting harder than ever next year to get his 8th championship.

Mercedes’ couldn’t make the same pit stop decisions as RB as RB would have done the opposite to them. That’s the trouble with being in front. But yes my nerves were all over the place today!

An exciting season for fans but a controversial season full of incidents and very scrappy. The fabricated sprint at the end has just undone all the excitement I think. Not the way I’d want my favourite driver to win a title but then F1 has got a lot of TikTok fans this year due to the drama. I hope Mercedes’ maintain this pace next year and Red Bull slip back to the midfield with their own engine. Enjoy it now Max, I hope it’s his last

I wonder how much Liberty has influenced things - not direct manipulation, but more a desire to have "the show spiced up" a bit.

I mean one could argue this was a "Hollywood Ending".

Yes it would have been a better finish if Max had been catching him without the SC for sure. Then it would have been a better win for Max as well if he’d caught him. But there were never going to be two sets of fans happy today.

Mercedes also would’ve probably lost track position under the safety car. But everything that was in control by the teams and drivers this race was done fair an square IMO. Move with Perez was amazing stuff BTW too.

Well, all we can do is pray the FIA, New Race Director?, and the Stewards have some idea how to conduct a F1 Race in 2022.

I understand both sides of this result, but it is what it is, and IMO Max isn’t going to care. Lewis will be damaged from this.

Finally although they didn’t win the WCC, for Honda powering the WDC Chassis in their Grand Finally simply makes me warm inside. ?
