Could this be an issue that is only affecting some machines?

Are the screens made by more than one factory? Is there an issue in assembling the iPad?

Knowing of the blooming issue, looked very, very carefully when I saw a demonstrator in a shop. I couldn't see the slightest hint of blooming.
Might be because it only is apparent in a dark room.

I have yet to run into a program on a 2017 10.5 that gives me issues. The A10X has been a workhorse for me for 4 years and I bought this to be a 5 year machine.

I’ll run out of battery health much sooner than I outgrow this machine’s abilities.

This is one of the reasons I’m absolutely perplexed by putting PC grade chips in mobile devices. What is anyone doing on a phone that would require an M1, M2??? I can see an iPad Pro user needing that capacity in some situations but not many. At this point the biggest benefit is having cellular capability built in vs a laptop with the same chip.

Possible - it was in a medium level of lighting. But, having seen blooming online, I thought I knew what to look for and where. And I couldn't see anything at all amiss with the display. Just a highly desirable bright, sharp and smooth screen with good colours.

And that’s only for now. iOS has been full 64bit for a few years now, so addressing more than 4gb is easy given the technical limit at 64bit is 2TB (way less in practice em of course). This just seems like an optimization issue given until now the big pros at best had 6gb, and leaving 1gb to system makes lots of sense.

I suspect we will see more on this, and info on some sort of OSX -> iPadOS converter or build profile for Xcode if you meet certain requirements at wwdc.
I agree with you aside from the 64-bit limit being 2TB. 64-bits can actually address up to 16 Exabytes. If there is a 2TB limit, it is not due to the 64-bit nature of the processor.

Honestly it depends on what you need an iPad for to answer the question whether it's worth the upgrade it not

if you are coming from an iPad older than iPad Pro 2018 and you need the performance as in gaming etc and you have extra cash go for it not only you'll get performance, but thinner bezels, new design better camera, lidar(if you need it) etc

Now if you have the iPad Pro 2018 or above or even the new Air

Then it depends
If you are iPad 12.9 user and you like to watch content on your ipad most of the time update to M1 will not only add Mini LED to your list but also performance and thunderbolt 4 along with center stage for video calls

If 12.9 is too big for you then other than performance and center stage you'll get slightly brighter screen with minor updates

A12x and A12z are still very capable even for gaming and will be for another year or so and with iPad OS 15 to my knowledge there aren't M1 exclusive features so you aren't missing out on anything, there aren't M1 exclusive apps as of yet although if you are into future proofing

My speculation is after A12X iPad Pro 2018, Apple's M1 devices are next best thing especially the M1 iPad

But as of now the iPad Pro 2018 is the best device in terms of future proofing given it's run and that's among all tablets out there it still is flawless

I own iPad Pro 11 2020 for me 12.9 is bigger the only thing that worries me a bit is my iPad losing its value as I keep on swapping my stuff but then again that's just me

I was really wanting to upgrade my original 10.5” iPad Pro (that was failing) to an 11” Pro. I ended up with a maxed out iPad Air that I’m really happy with & plan to update again If & when Apple releases an OLED version. The Air is perfect for me in the meantime.

I thought the 2022 iPad's are due at the end of March? Or is it September?
Rumors strongly point to March. I honestly can’t think of a reason to wait though if you come across a good deal right now like I did. Picked up an open box M1 for 200 off. It’s way more overpowered than I need considering it doesn’t run apps any better than my 2018 Pro but it was a good price and I appreciate the new Center Stage feature.
Apple needs to step up their software game to justify all this horsepower, frankly. Knowing this thing could run MacOS but Apple won’t let it irritates me to no end.

I have the 2020 11" iPad Pro that I currently have up for sale but now don't think it's worth upgrading to the 2021, unless, like you, I could get 200 off.
