Nah. Macs have been beating the iPad in revenue for two years now. In price and value you're better off just getting a M1 Macbook Air, especially since Amazon is selling new M1 MBAs for $800
Are you sure? This says differently (unless I’m reading it wrong).

I don't want a MAC. I like the tablet form.

You're pretty much already using a gimped Mac with the new iPad Airs and Pros. Guts of a Mac but does a lot less than a Mac and is more expensive than a Mac. Any benefit of that tablet form is lost with how limiting iPadOS is on the M series chips. It's why many Pros beg Apple to allow them to dualboot macOS on the M1/M2 iPads.

If you want a tablet form, just get the vanilla iPad, not the Pro. Once you get to that high price range of the M1/M2 iPads, at that point the Mac would be better.

Revenue for the Mac hit $8.2 billion in Q3 2021, up 16% year-over-year. Apple's iPad lineup is also up 12% year-over-year to $7.4 billion, Apple said in its quarterly earnings report on Tuesday.

That was from summer of last year. The new metrics are drastically different as the Mac has overtaken the iPad.

Imagine if you walked into a restaurant for the first time and the description for the chicken entree on the menu said, "Chicken.... a little more saffron and the same price as last week."

I know that most of these specific video drops are unboxing, but I don't understand Youtube "reviews." They do a disservice to someone new in the market for a device or who hasn't upgraded their device in several years. The video reviewers presume that the viewer knows everything about the previous generation and has full context. I wish reviewers reviewed the existing device rather than making a hot take on how similar it is to the one released a year ago!
But then how would people know that they should just buy last years model?

Chicken doesn’t cost over $1000

The ASP on a Mac is likely double or more the ASP on an iPad.

It’s funny, some feel limited and gimped by iPadOS, yet I, and the many that do know how to use it properly, could feel that it’s in fact the people suggesting it that are the limiting factor..it’s ok if you can’t operate it or make it work for what you need.. but insisting that it’s due to the device being limited rather than your ability or need to use it, is just bizarre. Just don’t buy it, and don’t worry about it!

True and we've had several iPad updates since the early 2020 27 inch iMac came out. And no large screen iMac until 2023??

Thanks!

I love my M1 12.9 iPad Pro. It serves a different role than my M1 MacBook Air. The M2 is probably the smallest upgrade in the iPad Pro life cycle. Feels even smaller than the 2018-2020 where you got a RAM bump, new cameras, really cool accessory (Magic Keyboard).

For you... You shouldn't project your needs and requirements onto others.

My wife is an artist. She likes sitting on the couch, or in a coffee shop, or in a park and making art on her iPad Pro and Apple Pencil.

There are many other situations where a tablet is a much better tool.

The problem with this is the name “Pro”. The most visible competitor, IMO, is Microsoft Surface Pro, which also is $999 at the bottom end. It runs Windows. That makes for a very powerful tablet/laptop combination. At that price, the iPad Pro feels very, very hampered compared to a surface. The iPad Pro just doesn’t have the software required to make the iPad Pro feel “Pro”. Now, perhaps if Apple would make something like, say, Final Cut Pro for iPad, or XCode, then you may hear people think differently. But I would love to have an iPad that can supplement my work on my Mac. It can do some things, like email and documents, but otherwise it doesn’t feel “Pro”.

All Apple devices are now running a version of an iPhone chip.

That is three times in a row this year that Macs have outsold iPads. Let's see if this keeps up for the latest announcement this week.
