If you are doing a transfer, it should sweep up all data and user preferences.

If you're setting it up as a new device and not transferring any data, it would be a new device starting anew.

I always setup as a new device and once I sign in to my iCloud account on the new device, it'll pull down Messages, Notes, Health/Fitness data, etc. Then I just manually install the apps I need as I need them. I think this is what @julit0 may mean by a fresh migration.

The Finder replaces iTunes for iPhone syncing and backup on the Mac. Just plug your iPhone into your Mac and look for it in the finder window, on the left where one would see external drives. Click on it and you'll see the controls for updating and backup. You should use an encrypted backup to save your passwords and other private stuff.

It’s still through iTunes on Windows PCs, Finder only exists on Macs

There are definitely ways you can back up the backup, it’s pretty easy to simply move or copy the folder it’s in - I’ve done it plenty of times. but I don’t back it up, realistically speaking the odds of something happening to my phone and my computer at the same time are very slim. If something destroys them both, I probably have bigger problems on my hands 🙂 if that’s a genuine concern then a cloud based backup is probably the more ideal option. I like that local backups are totally secure, reliable, fast, and let’s not forget free.

Massive system updates are often done in sweeps, at set times, or can take time to process batches.

My work does the same, in “batches” when you’re changing a lot of info at once. It isn’t instant. It takes a little while for the system to line it up and instantly knock it out.

I used quick start last year actually. Question with 16.0 on my 13 ProMax that is newer can I use this with 14 ProMax or will I have to use the new update first? Never had one like that before. Or maybe I will just get my 15.6 backup to the new phone via my MacBook and archived backup I made few days ago. will have to see what works I guess.

On an not mentioned item I also put WatchOS 9 on my iPhone will there be problem syncing with my new 14 ProMax since the backup of the watch from 9 was not done on the 15.6 back up as I had to do 16 on the 13 in order to instal watchOS 9.
