Can’t wait to see iPad Pro update bringing notch so every notched device is from apple. Who needs under the screen camera anyways?

That aside, MacBook Air having 20 hours of battery life would be awesome. MagSafe is good, so does miniLED. Tbh I don’t really expect too much from MacBook Air compared to MacBook Pro anyways.

I’m guessing that mini led uses less power than a traditional diffused backlight. That’s the only reason I can image they’re using it everywhere now.

I don't see an M2 coming out in the near future, especially with the M1 Pro and M1 Max having just been released. Supply chain rumors hint at mid 2022 at the earliest for the refreshed MBA, but I think this will be a next fall release.

Fingers crossed for a 14" variant (meaning redesign) with 1080P facetime and 120hz (or at least a better screen). Don't care too much about the chip since the M1 is plenty powerful for my daily usage.

I'm sure most people will see a notch on the MacBook Air. It's easier to negotiate the notch if you see 2 menu bars (L & R).

Apple will not replace the current price point MacBooks with new designs. They have been systematically raising prices of all their products and they will do what has worked for them on the iPads and iPhones and AirPods. Instead of replacing each model with a better one each year like they did under Jobs, they are adding new pro like models to each category and selling those at higher prices. They will keep the old models with minimal changes as the entry price models and sell the newer ones in a new premium category. The new designs will start at $1,200 and can be BTO for way more than that. And that will be their selling point, buy a MacBook Air, now with the option to carry a pro chip in it. Aren't we lucky?

So refreshing, the 15+ years old MagSafe and the 40+ years old F# keys. When only the iPhone was left out of the USB C train, now Macs take a step back. Luckily the USB C still works as power source. But F# keys? Just because they were not able to come up with more uses for the awesome touch bar? I will never be able to upgrade my MBP M1

When this new M2 macbook air releases...i wonder if it takes place of the M1 MBA at the $999 and if Apple keep the M1 Mba for $799 with school and other discount even $699 that will boost the sales for macs

I really hope they are going for a bigger Air this time. I have quite bad eyesight and 13inch laptops are just a tad too small for me. But I don't need the power of those pro machines
There a lot of people that want a bigger display but don't need the power. Apple silicon might pave the way for this to happen.

While I love the rumored specs on the next MacBook Air, I kind of liked the slanted, tapered wedge. I hope they are not just going full on thick edge must to be uniform with the new Pro laptops. If there is a performance reason/mechanical/technology reason I get that.

Hmmmm what does the full on wedge remind me of? :p

Agreed. As some one who just ordered a new MBP, I am really going to miss the wedge. It is perfect for lounging on the coach and actually using it on your lap/stomach - no computer edge digging into your wrist!
I suspect it will be as thin as the base of the Google Pixelbook laptop from a few years ago.

It’s going to be great to see the M2 performance, it will allow us to give an estimate on the M2 Max performance in 2022/2023

20% faster in one year is not enough in my opinion.
Not sure where you are getting that 20% faster CPU figure. If these get the M2, then that will probably use the same cores as the recently released A15 from the iPhone 13. I’ve seen estimates that that chip is around 8-10% faster in single core than the A14. If they bump up the GPU cores, that will help for those tasks that use the GPU.

Overall, the M2 should be noticeably faster but don’t expect to be blown away. The big jump was from Intel to Apple Silicon. Now, the improvement will be more incremental.

SD CARD, PLEASE

More important to me than mini-LED, by far.
I would not count on gaining any ports on the Air. They seem to be intent on keeping it thin and light. You might see an SD card if they redesign the 13” MBP. That one doesn’t have a good fit right now. If they kept it on the same SOC as the Air but added ports and pro motion, that might justify calling it a Pro but keep it cheaper than the 14” Pro.
