So there's some rumors that Brady may buy a passive interest in the Raiders. There were reports last year that Mark Davis is cash poor, so much so, he was unable to buy out (and fire) McDaniels. He's a very rich man, but may not have the liquidity that is needed - not sure. Either way it looks like he may get a cash infusion

I saw another story where they said Brady was looking to back out of the Fox TV deal. If he does buy a part of the Raiders, that would explain nixing the TV deal.

Yeah, I heard this, I thought it was due to the fact he wants to be a stay at home dad and not travel as much.

I'm beginning to hear that the purchase of the commanders has some possible defects in the conditions, financing, or the buyers. I'm wondering if worth of these franchises are now at a point where it exceeds the wealth of individuals and small groups.
Report: Absent league’s desire to dump Dan Snyder, Josh Harris bid wouldn’t be approved

The dude buying the Commanders already owns the 76ers and Devils. I doubt cash is a problem.

Normally I'd not disagree with you but from what I've been reading/seeing is that first the amount of people in the group buying the team at a level that seems to give the other owners pause, and 76ers is incurring debt to help fund his purchase of the Commanders. Those are really great signs

76ers are in the playoffs though...

Devils just got bounced from the Stanley Cup playoffs...

So.... maybe he brings winners...?

Harris is supposedly worth just under $6B. So he will need partners. Not too many Steve Balmer's out there that can just write a multi-billion dollar check.

I'm not saying he doesn't now how to win, or run a professional team, rather he may have his hands tied due to the high price. There's also the saying too many cooks in the kitchen ruin the soup. With a large ownership group it may be like herding cats to keep everyone happy.

I have no idea how minor partners work in the running of teams, I hear they don't have a say yet they must communicate and voice their pleasure/displeasure - you don't invest hundreds of millions just to sit on the sidelines - I really don't know though

Still, I have high hopes he turns things around, and I would love, absolutely love that he drops the commanders name - hate that.

Looks like the Pat McAfee show is moving to ESPN. I can only take his schtick in small doses, and the amount of kissing up to Aaron Rodgers was a bit off putting. Now that Pac Man Jones is part of the show, it just creates a vibe that rubs me the wrong way.

Pac Man Jones... my god there is a name I haven't heard in quite some time!

Still on the Pat McAfee topic
There seems to be some chatter amongst his fans that he's selling out and some folks are ripping into him.

So he had a 4 year 120 million dollar deal with fanduel (so 30 million a year). Purportedly ESPN is going to pay him 10 million dollars a year.

I can only take him in small amounts, he can be funny, he can offer some really thoughtful insights, but overall its just too much for my old boomer eyes to take in large quantities.

I do think he might have jumped the shark and his future success won't eclipse his prior success.

This doesn’t add up. Either you have an extra zero or you are missing a zero.

Brian Davis’s company seeks $500 billion over failed Commanders purchase\

So it looks like the other bidder for the Commanders is now suing Bank of America for supposedly dropping the ball. I'm not exactly sure what happened and what's going on but it seems his 5 billion dollar bid (which is a billion dollars lower then Josh Harris' bid) wasn't received in time and/or considered. He's not suing the NFL AFAIK nor Snyder since that makes zero sense since it is a lower bid.

From what PFT reports much of the money is coming from Estate of Severino Garcia Sta. Romana. Furthermore PFT reports that it may be have been illegally acquired by former Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos. So its quite possible the bank and/or the NFL wanted to avoid any risk of money laundering. I really don't know, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

If I'm a betting man, I'd say the bank and Davis settle for an undisclosed sum

While we wait for something interesting to happen in the NFL...

I've been so bored with the NBA in recent years. It's devolved into nothing more than a 3 point shooting contest. The NHL, however, is tearing it up. Loving the NHL playoffs. I also love MLB's pitch clock. The pace of the games has definitely picked up, 20 minutes shorter on average now.

I was until the Bruins bottled it...

As for the NHL, I am not a fan of the expansions teams being so successful right out of the box though.
It seems to me, with the exception of the NBA, that most team sports these days are based on video games.
i.e. You can win immediately. I blame the FIFA franchise for that. I know it's petty but I'm ok with that. ;P

oops! I didn't mean for the whole post to be bold!

Agree about NHL expansion. The NHL wanted to create fan interest, especially in southern US cities, by making them competitive, but it went too far.

With Hopkins now released, the Cardinals take a large cap hit of 22.6 million (as reported by espn). Thats a huge number and why purposely weaken your team? Obviously we've heard about some level of discontent for months, but from a team's perspective it looks like they may wish to tank in 2023

From a Hopkins perspective does he expect to garner top dollar at this point? Sounds like he will probably want as much has he was getting but when Arizona was shopping him around there were few if any people interested teams.

DeAndre Hopkins’s financial expectations, representation could be an impediment to a deal

There’s another complication. Although Hopkins said during an early March appearance with Pat McAfee that Hopkins has hired an agent for this next phase of his career, NFL Players Association records reveal that he is unrepresented.

Per multiple sources, the notorious Saint Omni is “running the show” for Hopkins. At least one viable contender for Hopkins’s services is leery about dealing with Omni. And for good reason. Last year, the NFL specifically warned all teams not to deal with Omni or any other non-certified agent
