$700 extra for an OLED display? How much extra would Apple be paying, $50? Sounds fair.
The pricing rumours do seem insane, add the magic keyboard and you're at or past 14" MacBook Pro money. Even if they start it at 512GB storage and 16GB RAM to match the MacBook that seems a bit of a stretch. I could possibly see it if they evolve the iPad pro into a proper surface style hybrid, a sort of 'iBook', maybe, but for what's ultimately just a fancy iPad, I struggle to see the market.

You can brake your iPhone glass back because we know your to addicted not to buy again, but not the iPad we don’t want it to break… Mother Nature can see you Apple lol.

That pricing is insane if true. I want to replace my M1 iPad Pro as there’s a dull area on the screen where some of the mini-LEDs have come de-soldered from the motherboard, but there’s no way I’m paying that much for a new 13”.

with current estimates starting at $1,500 and $1,800 for the 11-inch and 13-inch models, respectively.
I guess the Vision Pro will seem like a bargain compared to a maxed-out 13” iPad with keyboard.

I am not sure having a glass back fills me with confidence unless there is a repair benefit to it. iPads while great little netbook sketchpads are just too expensive, I think they crossed a personal price line with the M1 models.

All of this marginal improvements only to run the baby iOS not so faster? What we need is Sonoma on M* iPads, with a iOS interface in tablet mode and the full mac interface and capabilities when in laptop mode (with or without external monitor). My M1 2021 12.9" iPad screams with every app, the top camera works well even in landscape mode. Who need to upgrade?

I think it's time to end the iPad experiment, it's a regressed product. iPhone made it redundant, and M1 Macs put the final nail in the coffin.

They should just make a MacBook Air that has OLED 120Hz in the lightweight form factor to end iPad for good.

I enjoy my 12.9" 2018 Pro but... apart from note-taking and drawing in procreate with the Apple Pencil, there's not really anything that it does better than a Macbook.

And at those prices (if they're going to happen), I don't think I can justify a 13" Pro. Good thing there's the iPad Air - and to be fair, I consider the (almost) 11" the perfect size for what I do, anyway.

I think the iPad absolutely has a spot in the product lineup and if anything were to replace it for what people seem to be using it, it would be a laptop rather than a phone.

What I will say is that with the sheer power they've put into them, software does seem to be a bit of a bottleneck. There's no point in having extremely powerful processors in these devices when the software does not/cannot utilize them. It's overkill.

But as I said, I think there is absolutely a place for the iPad. Maybe it's just not a product for you - and that's fine 🤷‍♂️

Higher Prices

The more advanced OLED display technology in the next-generation models is expected to drive up the iPad Pro's price, with current estimates starting at $1,500 and $1,800 for the 11-inch and 13-inch models, respectively. Pricing on the current 11-inch iPad Pro starts at $799, while the 12.9-inch iPad Pro starts at $1,099. Models with cellular connectivity are available for an additional $200 over the base price for each storage tier.

Improved Cameras

The iPad Pro has had the same 12-megapixel main rear camera with a ƒ/1.8 aperture since 2017. The 12-megapixel ultra wide camera with an ƒ/2.4 aperture and brighter True Tone flash have also remained the same since its introduction on the 2021 iPad Pro. Camera upgrades are rumored for other future iPad models with related hardware such as the seventh-generation iPad mini, so it follows that similar improvements are on the way for the iPad Pro.

Since 2021, the iPad Pro has also featured a 12-megapixel front-facing camera with an ƒ/2.4 aperture. With 2022's iPhone 14 models, Apple introduced an upgraded 12-megapixel front-facing camera with an ƒ/1.9 aperture and autofocus. It seems plausible that this hardware could be ready to trickle down to the iPad Pro in its next incarnation.

The current iPad Pros support Smart HDR 4, so an upgrade to Smart HDR 5 is likely. The Photonic Engine and other iPhone... Click here to read rest of article

Higher price is believable if Apple cannot lower down AMOLED display pricing with their design targets.

A redesign of the iPad Pro may also include user removable battery as mandated by EU law by 2027.

I am scheduling the replacement of my 2018 iPad Pro when both occurs.

Better camera is a given as it would improve the economies of scale of that specific part among all Apple devices and simplify Apple's parts list.

I just hope that $799 iPad Pro 11" SKU will by then have 256GB storage.

After reading back through the article, there is not a chance in hell base models start $800 more expensive than current pricing. I imagine a $100-$200 base price increase with increased base storage on both to 256GB. I only need 256GB so I would be fine with a $1200 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard.

Maybe if their development teams prioritized putting Mac apps on iPad instead of the other way around, their iPad lineup would make more sense. I bought a new MacBook Air M2 from Best Buy for $899 last week and it's a much more capable "iPad Pro". Also I didn't need to spend hundreds more on accessories to make it a productive device.

I do think the iPad needs better hardware more than better software. iPadOS is by far the best tablet OS, and has been greatly improved over the last few years. However, we used to have annual upgrades of the flagship iPad, and since the iPad Pro, the pace has become slower and slower. The current design has been with us for 5 years. Also, I think there’s room for improvement with the rear cameras, the pencil and accessories. And a bigger model would be exciting. The lack of competition in the high-end market is a pity.

Your $899 MacBook Air has nothing to do with an iPad Pro. They’re different devices. Sure, they have overlapping functionalities, but would you describe the MBA as “more capable” than a $1500 iPhone? And they all can be productive devices in their own ways.

For me, my M1 iPad Pro with 16GB RAM is plenty and will last me for many more years to come. The OS is so simple compared to macOS that I don't see this being an issue for a long time. I'm so sure of this that I paid to have my broken display fixed at a shop instead of waiting to buy a new one. And those prices have to be a joke. For years everyone has been saying Apple is going to jack up the prices on this, that and the other and it never really comes to fruition. Not even close to what these experts predict. I'm sure it will come up some in price but there is absolutely nothing that justifies a $700 increase in price (88% increase for the 11" and 64% increase for the 13!) if it's just a spec bump with a new display. The difference between Mini LED and OLED is not that vast. It's not like going from standard LCD LED to OLED. I also think it's likely we could see the M3 Pro chip in the next gen iPad Pro. It just makes sense when you look at the A17 Pro chip in the iPhone Pro. Although you know how Apple likes to be confusing with naming.

If this is as stated in this article, I am going to move down to the iPad Air line for future iPad upgrades. A standard iPad Pro 11" 256GB starting at $1500 is insane.

I have two theories about this:
  1. Apple is deliberately putting out misinformation about the price in order to get people to continue to buy the current model well into next year as it will be getting long in the tooth by that point. Scaring people into thinking there will be an 88% price increase will cause more people to go ahead and buy the current model.
  2. Apple is massively overhauling the iPad Pro line, perhaps even making the iPad Studio, and this rumor is for the wrong product. For instance, there has been the long rumored foldable that acts as an iPad when flat and as a Mac when folded. If this is that, it would justify the price absolutely.
I would love to have a combo iPad/Mac! And I would pay a pretty penny to get a decently spec'd model. I will be in the market for a Mac upgrade around then, although I am hesitant about how good the keyboard experience could be. Perhaps having it fold up, the top camera could look down at your fingers and use AI to improve speed and accuracy? But being tactile, idk. Most of the time when I'm typing a lot I would use it docked to a display with external mouse and keyboard for work.

very excited for this and agree with the OS/software comments even though I only use it for very basic things.

would love to see a 14”!

Whilst I love new hardware , the rumours here scream beware!

The screen size increases of 0.1” … won’t even notice.

The M3 … won’t even notice.

The cameras … nobody cares.

New keyboard … interesting but the price of them is ridiculous and once you add the cost on, then may as well just get a MacBook instead.

The OLED … I can honestly say that I’ve never had a problem with the existing screen.

The price increases … will definitely notice and opt out of.

Higher storage … not required.

The OS … it’s ok but will always feel limited compared to MacOS.

Also , I shouldn’t have to pay as much to get stuff like 120hz these days. The regular Air should have that by now.

Apple seems a bit lost with the iPad.

Sitting here and waiting for the trickle down and refurbished prestige buys, if I can imagine reasonable use.

Other than niche 'creatives' needing to 'think different', I see very few real needs that aren't just a computer tablet owning the USER.
