The only rumor I actually believe so far is the price hike, cause it sounds exactly like what Apple will do. It’s only a matter of how much.
I agree. We are using powerful hardware with an elementary OS.
I mean, if iPad runs literal elementary OS that would be very cool and amazing. 🥲 ain’t gonna happen however.
I'd be more puzzled by what on earth anyone would do with 4 TB of storage while using iPad OS in its current state. If you're handling that much data you're better off on a Mac (99 percent of the time).
Yeah I can see my need to have even 8TB just to keep all necessary files on local storage, including my cloud storage, music library, photo library and so on.

On iPad? Yeah I can put my entire music library on but that’s about it. Maybe a couple more anime series perhaps? With that being said, I run out of storage space of my 512GB iPad Pro already so the next upgrade going to be crazy expensive.
Apple is being a bit psychotic with this product. Multi-touch and pen support is not some unique magical technology anymore. They need to move away from this premium mentality.
Nah, people will keep buying into that kind of mentality. Humanity’s worst enemy is always humanity itself.
Don't care about the M3. This device is already overpowered for what anyone uses it for.
Gamers beg to differ.
Higher prices? Why not. Apple's going broke.
LMAO. 🤣

Nearly every one of these items are why I just bought a 256GB 12.9 M2 ipad pro for $1099. I prefer micro-LED to OLED. I like the design and don’t really want another big piece of breakable glass on my giant handheld device. I don’t care about the M3 when the M2 iPad pro still doesn’t use the power of the M2 or its advertised features (No hover feature in Lightroom? And no AI Enhance? Come on Apple & Adobe). I really don’t care about the cameras on the thing.

Apple seems to be missing the mark on the ipad slotting between the phone and the macbook as a productivity tool, especially if they are jacking the price up to $1800.

I wish they'd add the split keyboard like the mini has. Doesn't make sense, other than to help them sell keyboards. It makes more sense to have the split keyboard on the larger iPad than the mini.
I personally prefer the floating keyboard on the pro and the ability to swipe with my thumb to type when holding the iPad bare bones.

Is OLED really worth a price hike? The screen is fine, the processor is fine...I am not sure why anyone would need to upgrade especially for $1800

Rumors of an AMOLED iPad started as early as 2018.

I wouldn't be surprised if that rumor continues 2028 & beyond

A glass back for the ipad? That's worked out really well for the iPhones. Metal is far more durable than glass. Duh! Maybe the Genius Bar will see more business but I'm pretty sure most users are fond of their bullet-proof iPads. Double the purchase price for an OLED screen? How greedy can you get?

If Apple really wanted to introduce something dramatic, they could adopt the matte, etched screen from the Xencelabs Display tablet. It is the smoothest surface I’ve drawn on (blows away my old Wacom Cintiq) and no glare. And give us a 13 or 14” model. Now THAT would be game changing.

I have to admit I bought the Magic Keyboard for my iPad Air... and it really is a quality keyboard and I love it.. but it's a damn expensive thing indeed. I'm still amazed by it, and amazed I bought it.
If you’re prepared to wait, you can sometimes get it on sale at Amazon

It would be nice if Apple kept these new Pros backwards compatible with the previous Magic Keyboards so that we don’t all have to ditch our current ones and introduce a ton of waste into the environment. Since they’ll have roughly, the same footprint, it should be easy. But somehow, I know they won’t.

I've been waiting for a new iPad Pro to come out. But my God, those prices are absolutely insane!
Those rumored prices are just guesses based on estimates of the materials costs. We don’t know what kind pricing deals Apple will get for the mass quantities it orders.
While there may indeed be some kind of price increase, I just don’t believe that Apple would release a 12.9” iPad starting at $1800 (when similar-sized MacBooks start at $1099). That would be product suicide.

On #1 I'm probably going to get an M2 before the refresh if only so I can keep using my existing Magic Keyboard. My 2020 is fine but it's not hard to see that it's going to be dropped by iOS before it truly ends up slow - it's already being feature-gated due to the lacking ML cores in the A12 generation (M2 is more than 3x more capable in that respect, on top of being 2x better than A12Z in most respects).

That said I know I'm fairly alone on those things so I can see perhaps trying to drive some continued sales, but even then I suspect it wouldn't help much.

OLED on an iPad does feel like a bigger issue than an iPhone, both for burn-in and accuracy reasons.
Tapped “Post reply” by mistake, but now I can’t cancel this action? Why is this, MR?

For me, my M1 iPad Pro with 16GB RAM is plenty and will last me for many more years to come. The OS is so simple compared to macOS that I don't see this being an issue for a long time. I'm so sure of this that I paid to have my broken display fixed at a shop instead of waiting to buy a new one. And those prices have to be a joke. For years everyone has been saying Apple is going to jack up the prices on this, that and the other and it never really comes to fruition. Not even close to what these experts predict. I'm sure it will come up some in price but there is absolutely nothing that justifies a $700 increase in price (88% increase for the 11" and 64% increase for the 13!) if it's just a spec bump with a new display. The difference between Mini LED and OLED is not that vast. It's not like going from standard LCD LED to OLED. I also think it's likely we could see the M3 Pro chip in the next gen iPad Pro. It just makes sense when you look at the A17 Pro chip in the iPhone Pro. Although you know how Apple likes to be confusing with naming.

If this is as stated in this article, I am going to move down to the iPad Air line for future iPad upgrades. A standard iPad Pro 11" 256GB starting at $1500 is insane.

I have two theories about this:
  1. Apple is deliberately putting out misinformation about the price in order to get people to continue to buy the current model well into next year as it will be getting long in the tooth by that point. Scaring people into thinking there will be an 88% price increase will cause more people to go ahead and buy the current model.
  2. Apple is massively overhauling the iPad Pro line, perhaps even making the iPad Studio, and this rumor is for the wrong product. For instance, there has been the long rumored foldable that acts as an iPad when flat and as a Mac when folded. If this is that, it would justify the price absolutely.
I would love to have a combo iPad/Mac! And I would pay a pretty penny to get a decently spec'd model. I will be in the market for a Mac upgrade around then, although I am hesitant about how good the keyboard experience could be. Perhaps having it fold up, the top camera could look down at your fingers and use AI to improve speed and accuracy? But being tactile, idk. Most of the time when I'm typing a lot I would use it docked to a display with external mouse and keyboard for work.
Great post!

I said this today to a Mac operative on the phone. I’ve just updated my iPad Pro from 9.7 to an 11 and to my horror have found that they have ditched the split keyboard. I thumb type in portrait mode with the split keys. It was so useful. Now I can’t do it because ergonomically the keyboard is too wide for my thumbs.
I’m going to escalate this tomorrow with Apple. It’s just not good enough. Why on earth get rid of this feature.
Have you written and complained? The more people do this the more chance we have of bringing it back.

Have you seen the mini keyboard that allows you to swype? I think I prefer that over split keyboard, but then again I haven’t used a split in a really long time.

Artist here. I use a MacBook Pro and a pen tablet for the simple reason that iPad OS is a bag of crap (unless you are a consumer).... Ironically the tablets pen works great in Mac OS (better than a track pad) as a pointing device.... Can you see where I'm going here?
