F1 teams are required to run a rookie in FP1 four times this year and McLaren has run three such sessions so they must do their fourth at Abu Dhabi (they will be joined by Red Bull Racing, Racing Bulls, Williams, Ferrari, Haas and Aston Martin).

Lando Norris has given up his car for two of the three sessions so far, so Oscar is fulfilling his second slot.
Exactly. Love how the conspiracy theories circulate around this sort of thing. It’s just the team following the rules fairly.

As a Max fan I would love him to win. I got to admit that based on the first half of the season I had no expectations to that at all. How the RBR team came together with strategy and driving to get to this result is amazing.

Part of me would like Lando to win as well as I can’t help but feel this is his only chance to become a world champion. It’s now or never. I just can’t see him improve beyond this year. Oscar still has some improving left in him.

In other news, I hope it works out for Isack. I can’t help but feel that it’s too soon for him to take that seat. But we shall see.

Regardless of anything. I hope the two yeah baby’s collide and take each other out. I just can’t warm to George nor Oscar.

I’d be happy with a Max P1, Lando P2, Carlos P3. Lando gets his championship, Max still done the impossible, and Carlos another nice finish and two fingers up to Ferrari 🤣

The one I sympathize most with this season is Lewis. Oh man, what a terrible season that was. I was really hoping for some magic, and a return to the fight at the top. But Ferrari seem so inconsistent and it doesn’t seem to gel.

I am not sure about Isaac either, think it is a bit early for him to be in a front running team. I think the only driver that has partnered with Max who is up there with his skill was Ricciardo. But next year is an open book anyway, some think Mercedes will come back with the new rules.

I hope they don’t crash together. That would not be a fitting end to what’s been a good season with a few twist and turns.

However if I hear about the 104 point deficit one more bloody time….grrrrrrr
I just checked and the final race is not being shown on FTA like it was in 2021 when a Brit was in contention. The bonus of that is if Lando doesn't win (I rarely watch highlights without seeing the result), I won't bother watching it. Saves any live disappointment lol. This might be the last season where Max, Lando and Oscar are fighting like this for a while too.

Saw a clip of Lewis in Qatar pulling in for a pitstop, on the radio saying 'this is a sh** race man'... haha sums up his season completely. Just says it how it is. Also saw onboards of him just drifting off the track because the car is so unsable through highspeed corners. Theres certainly one Brit who wouldn't have minded this season ending in August.

Onto F1 2026 with F2 speed F1 cars lol.

Yes, I love that about this sport. The 'reset', just when they all got a bit closer to each other. It will make it exciting.

One of our conservative news organisations was stirring the pot a bit, they absolutely didn't mention the reasoning behind it.

Watch Mclaren not implementing team orders and Max stealing away the WDC. I will laugh my ass off if this happens.

Mclaren should have decided the WDC a long time ago with Max being this close.

Fuzzy math? Third would do it. Lando is on 408 points - third (15 points) puts him at 423. Max is at 396, his best total would be 421. A podium for Lando and he's the champion.
That's why that late pass on Kimi was so important. Those 2 points could end up being huge.

In other news, Red Bull's lineup for 2026 will be Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar. Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad will be Racing Bull's lineup.

Hadjar has come quite a ways since he spun out in turn 1 on the Formation lap in his very first GP.

I would prefer Lando or Oscar to be WDC, but at this point, if Max pulls it off thanks in large part to McLaren's incompetence, so be it.

If the AMG PU is as powerful as everyone seems to be assuming it is, McLaren's drivers could be contenders for the WDC next year, as well. Especially if the Red Bull-Ford PU is behind in performance and/or reliability.

Hadjar does have an advantage that the RB22 is effectively a brand-new car so it should not carry over the issues that have plagued the RB20 and RB21 and knee-capped the #2 driver. He also will benefit from the extended testing opportunities that the teams are getting since it is a brand new set of regulations. I think this is why they may have decided to bench Yuki and promote Arvid, since he too will get more acclimation time in the VCARB 03.

I'd prefer Oscar at this point.

This are going to be interesting. George is messaging this morning that he’s going to be sending it. I’d wouldn’t be surprised to see him anywhere in the top 3

The messaging from them this morning is there are no team orders. Time will tell.

I’m looking forward to seeing him in the RB22. I think he has allot of potential. He just needs to monitor his tendency to get angry quickly and loose focus. He’s young. It will come. They all can’t be Kimi. 😉

I think we will get a look at the new PU during testing. It will be interesting. Everyone is convinced Mercedes will dominate out of the gate based (most likely) on the 2019 AMG M10 EQ Power + with its dominance.

The engine run simulations today are far more advanced than they were even in 2019. I’m betting the RBPT04 will make the power. I’m concerned over reliability. Mainly the entirety of the Hybrid components. Allot of discussions out there that Ford is heavily involved in the Control Electronics. I just don’t see where Ford has anything to offer. Ford Racing in 2025 is heavily V8 FI non turbo. Their Hybrid partnership with Puma-1 in WRC in 2024 was a disaster. Maybe I’m wrong. I just see this Ford deal as Horner letting Ford use RBR as a testbed in return for huge sponsorship monies. I’m not confident.

To be honest some reliability issues wouldn’t be a bad thing. Too many reliable engines can make for some pretty dull races at times.

That’s fair. I anticipate some in the first half of the season. I’m looking forward to 2027 and Cadillac’s PU. There is potential there, IMO. I’ll always be in Honda’s Camp though. 😉

i want to see the McLaren reaction if that happens and Piastri wins.

It will be funereal.

hahaha.. we saw their reaction after that farce of a sprint Q session, like they had been told Stroll was now Team Principle and #1 driver... And that they are all moving to Peru..

McLaren will have to lodge a protest against their own driver! I cannot see him remaining at that team for too much longer.

Sad that we have to endure what should be a professionally run format.. But it was never professional, or maybe I guess it is professional sports entertainment, so as it is entertainment, it cannot be real.. About as real as a Cirqu Du Soliel fist fight in the ring..

I heard that the RB power plant issues have been more or less resolved, next year will be very interesting.... on AND off the track.

I think Audi and Cadillac are going to mix up the mid field a lot, especially Cadillac with its drivers!
