Audi did that with their R8 Le Mans Prototypes. They could swap the entire back end of the car with the transmission, differential and suspension parts in under 5 minutes.

The Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), organizers of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, moved quickly to ban it because it was such a massive advantage (a gearbox change in a traditional LMP900 normally took upwards of three hours).

What a shame! That's pretty cool tech!

Yeah, it almost feels like you innovate only to have it banned, cause someone is sore they did not think of it 1st... So they whine to the FIA and bans are gifted... I wonder would Max have won had they had a instant replacement???

Not only that, but motorsports innovation is supposed to transfer to the road. Imagine such modularity in our own cars ... oh but think of the mechanics £100 per hour labour rates! How will they eat? /s

While the FIA appears willing to kick most of the PU OEMs to the curb if that is what required to severely reduce or even drop electrification, I doubt FOM is. And how will the fans react if we get to a point where we only have Ferrari and Mercedes powering the entire grid, but only the Ferrari and Mercedes factory teams are winning because they understand their PUs best?

We saw what happens with only 2 options, back in the US, with tyregate... We are seeing this with enginegate now.. Teams are almost in different grades within a formula.. Will we see a situation where 50/60/75% of the grid on Sunday has to withdraw after the formation lap? Or will we see 1 OEM engine supplier win 100% of the events, but different drivers, maybe team orders???

The cars should use standard off the floor 1600 CC ICE, be it from anyone of a dozen suppliers, not this voodoo useless never works garbage they have now.. No batteries, not even for the on board go pro...

George Russell must be feeling a bit better going into Montreal as Bradley Lord, the Deputy Team Principal and Chief Communications Officer of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One team, noted to German site Champ1 that the team was no longer attempting to secure the services of Max Verstappen.

Kimi, of course.

Meanwhile, Christian Horner is now talking to BYD about the Chinese manufacturer entering as the 12th Formula One team.

Oh well, that will cause about 281 different brands, F1 will be all EV by 2035 tonight... Oh well F1 was ok, but truly if that is where Chris Horner wants to ply his trade, then the man is a fool..

That is kind of the trick, isn't it? BYD's automotive subsidiaries are focused on electrification. If F1 significantly reduces - or even eliminates - electrification, will BYD be interested in joining?

Then again, both the FIA and FOM want a Chinese team.

Mr Toxic himself.

Ralf Schumacher says that none of the top people will want to work with Horner. He’s damaged goods.

The Race on the other hand was talking up the whole thing.

As for BYD - I would have thought that Formula E would be a better fit for them.

I agree with you in principle (damaged goods, etc), but I don't believe Ralf knows what he's talking about. There are so many times I thought a "Mr./Mrs. Toxic" was good and gone from a sport, only for them to find a way back. If Briatore can find a way back to F1, it's unlikely Horner will have any problem. Ultimately, teams/drivers/people want to win and a lot of folks will overlook all manner of "damaged goods" to get to the top. I think we'll see Horner back and competing sooner rather than later, not that I think that is a good thing.

I'm certain Horner will be back in one form or another.

A 49CC toy? Looks like a child's e play bike... a bit small or is Lewis just big??
Look a little more closely, that's no toy. Toy bike makers don't waste dual front disc brakes and serious suspensions front and rear on toys. A little more observation and a little less sarcasm would go a long way...

From that photo it is hard to see real from play, things could be painted to look like something else.. But the bike size is a bit off, a bit too small for Lewis.. It looks odd in the photo, the size looks strange..

OK, so what is the point of the sprint? We may or may not have a full grid, and that extended time, what are we, in 3rd grade? Why not make it a 2 hour session for P1? Or a maximum of 45 laps per car???? Maybe that is the solution..

Maybe what the "sprint" race needs is on that weekend you have a 120 minute session, in that session, you set lap times, and you have a maximum number of laps in that session, that practice is both practice and Q session.. Instead of the mickey mouse disneyland silly Q session.. Then a Q session only for cars 12-22.. 1x20min session 2 hours after the end of P1...To set the Sprint grid places 12 to 22.

Maybe a 10 min break, then a 40 min session for cars 1 to 10 to set sprint grid?

Not F1, but Kyle Busch died from an undisclosed illness.

He was 41.

I've heard it started as a sinus infection and got worse...
and that the G forces from the racing simulator forced the infection into his brain...is that even possible?
