Called it.

I had Kimi, Lewis and Charles (in order) for my podium at the end of GP qualifying, so I had the right idea, just the wrong order for Lewis and Charles.

Kimi is going to win unless he encounters a mechanical issue. I believe Lewis will be on the podium, but whether that is in 2nd or 3rd will likely depend on strategy at both Ferrari and Mercedes (in the latter case, for George).

It appears to be a combination of the weight needing to come down in a significant portion of the chassis and the overall expense in money and time (the rule of thumb, I believe, is it costs about GBP200,000 and 1000 hours of R&D to remove a kilogram of weight). Vowels has mentioned that if the Cost Cap was not a concern, they could remove the weight faster (though that was early in the season before they realized just how many areas the car is overweight).
wow

ANd I'm sure some of that would impact the overall safety of the car as well...?

So Mercedes have developed a work-around to the MGU-K shut-off trick that allowed them to deploy the full 350kW of battery power without the ramp-down that normally happens. This trick was banned by the FIA on the grounds of safety, but Antonelli and Russell have been spending hours in the simulator working out on lifting just before the start-finish line that allows them to bypass the ramp-down without running afoul of the modified rules. It is believed that Kimi needing to lift is why he lost Sprint Pole to Lewis Hamilton by 0.011 seconds.

I keep thinking that maybe we should move the Sprint to Friday...
Friday AM, 45 min Sprint FP1.
Friday PM, a 30 min Sprint Q, 1 hour prior to Sprint Friday..

Saturday AM, FP2 1x90 minutes.
Saturday PM, Race Q

Sunday PM Race...

The tracks - and the people paying money to be in the seats and suites at the tracks - like Sprints and more of the latter attend on a Saturday than a Friday, so I do not see the current weekend program changing.

Nice to watch a live race for a change.
If neither Ferrari can get the jump on Antonelli at the start I think he’s down the road. Best chance would be to split the strategy if the boys in red are running 2 and 3.
But more likely they will fight each other and have the win to Antonelli and expose themselves to attacks from behind.

Weird seeing Christian Horner on the grid. Will be interesting seeing how he gets back into the sport.

Hahaha, a tantrum from the teenager, "the car was broken!!" 5 sec penalty...
The track is the grey bit between the white lines, cross the white lines and you are fined... Reasons are not required or needed.. Kimi needs a lesson on humility..

Race Control stuffs it again with the SC. But a Ferrari 1-3 so I am happy. Love the crowd booing for losing a possible battle between George and Lewis.

I fail to see any justifiable reason for the safety car to be out all the way to the end. Max was fine and his car was well off the track. The safety car was going to come in to allow a final lap of racing and apparently some FIA twit saw a hangnail on the track and the safety car stayed out. F1 has a serious rules problem. What a mess.

Bad luck for Antonelli, but Russel will be made up. He really was expecting to lose points to his rival after that puncture, instead he gets a P2 with no points for his team mate.

Also suffers a 5 second penalty for his trouble of having a damaged car. Leaving the track and gaining an advantage is hardly what happened.

All in all the penalties were crazy today.

But good win for Charles (who let’s face it was going to finish second). If Lewis had stayed out he’d have been second. But I doubt he really cares if it’s a second or third at this stage. He just wants a win. (That said he’s under investigation for a yellow flag infringement).

Was the hangnail on the hanger straight? 😜
