I love(d) when I went to the Apple Store and laid my SE against the Air and the crowd nearby took notice. I don’t think the “new” people ever knew such a marvel of engineering and design existed. They were very interested in it. I got nervous when one dude picked it up for comparison. I thought I might not get it back. 😆
You're one of the cool funny iPhone mini fanatics. Most of the others are too sensitive and serious

I don't have access to the millions of dollars in marketing research but it seems like this phone is unnecessary and apple could get by with just the standard, pro, and pro max versions. It would also simplify the line up.

The only other reason would be the partial blueprint of how thin the foldable would be.

I think it’s the latter. It’s analogous to how the iPhone X paced the way to a new world order. They definitely have a trick up their sleeves.

(Oh..I almost forgot to also complain about the speaker… “blah blah speaker blah”. there, got it.)

As an iPhone Air owner - I’m very happy. I’ve owned the Pro Max / Plus phones since the 6+. It is amazing how much I’m using this thing because it’s so enjoyable to use and hold.

I’d also prefer a telephoto lens vs a wide angle, but hey, I’m good with one lens so …

I’m having a blast with this phone - read 20% of a book last night on it and the entire time was just happy to have a device I enjoyed holding.

As someone who used 15-20% of my 15 Pro Max battery on a “very heavy day” - this phone is perfect.

Glad it seems like they’re going to continue the Air. I just hope they keep the weight the same because that’s what I like most about this phone.

Look folks, the Air is not for everyone. But I have it and it’s my favorite iPhone in a long time. I’m willing to accept the trade offs to get what I consider to be the most exciting iPhone in years. Or, turning it around, not accepting the trade offs of a bulky, heavy and thick iPhone to get additional features.
With respect to those trade offs, I’m a normal everyday user and my experiences are-
Battery - at the end of the day I usually have 40-50% battery left, about the same as the iPhone 15 Pro I traded in.
Camera - most photographers will say that there’s not one camera for all needs. Consider this a high end camera with a primary lens. See the Leica Q3, a $7000. camera with one lens.
Speaker - more than adequate for speaker phone function.

So I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Air if design and look and feel is a primary consideration. And my advice is to ignore the reviews that panned this phone before they actually had. (Except Dan)

This means the camera plateau of the next iPhone Air will be a bit bigger to accommodate the second camera. And it may have a silicon-carbon battery to bump up the battery storage capacity from 3,149 to 3,700 (or higher) milliamp-hours.

As I'd said in a previous post this isn't possible. The rear of the dynamic island and part of the logic board sit in the central area of the plateau. There is no space to mount a second camera on top of them.
Seems like if they used a more energy dense battery they could put the logic board back into the main body of the iPhone Air without further sacrificing battery life. Then there'd be room for the second camera. I hope against hope that they drop a 5.6" version of the Air as well. Pipe dream, I realize.

A small and LIGHT one. The iPhone Air (165g) is actually 24% heavier than the iPhone 12 mini (133g). And 47% heavier than the iPhone 5s (112g). I really miss feeling of those small, feather-like phones.
I feel like if Apple made a smaller Air variant it would sell well enough to make it worth their while. The 12 and 13 mini were hampered by the pandemic in that less people were able to go hands on with them before making a purchase decision. Also, they were positioned as the "cheap phone" and people going for overall value weren't necessarily stoked with a smaller screen. The people that do want a proper small phone would be willing to pay a higher price for something like an Air, I would anyway, so even if they sold less of the little Airs (likely) they'd still be profitable enough to keep on with it. I'm dreaming I know, but gonna rock this 12 mini one more year and hope for an ergonomic win next fall.
