They should discontinue it already and bring back the iPhone mini. People don’t care about a thin phone, they’d rather have a small one.
They already tried the mini and the market simply wasn't interested. Most people are no longer interested in small phones. To the average consumer they're seen as budget or non-premium due to their small size just like the Air is seen as inferior due to its single camera. Difference with the Air is that if Apple adds the second camera and tweaks the price then it could still potentially shed that perception.

That’s what they should’ve done with the first generation iPhone Air. Will we have to wait for the third generation for a second speaker (if there is a third generation Air)?

Now just make the following changes and I'll buy it:

* Reduce screen size to 13 mini size
* Restore stereo speakers
* Fatter for better battery life

A winner of a product for sure!
Not a winner for Tim and that’s why it will never happen. Right now the Air’s future is probably in jeopardy and the only possible reason Apple will go ahead with a second generation Air will be if they believe adding another camera lens will drum up demand. I doubt it.

Why do we, as customers, want a simplified lineup?

I'd rather have various interesting options, and sizes, to choose from.
Good argument. I was thinking maybe all that R&D money, etc. would go to the other 3 phones and we might get a little more out of them (but not too much because apple is apple and they need to sell you on the 18's when they come out).

My wife and I decided on new iPhone 17 models, largely because the perceived compromises made the $200 premium for the Air hard to justify. An Air model with either a smaller price differential and/or fewer compromises (e.g., 2nd speaker, better battery, etc.) would make the Air a more compelling option. The physical design of the Air is exceptional, and kudos to Apple for exploring a new design.

As I'd said in a previous post this isn't possible. The rear of the dynamic island and part of the logic board sit in the central area of the plateau. There is no space to mount a second camera on top of them.
This image shows more of what's below and around the Air's plateau, making it clear that adding a second camera either to the right of or below the current one would require moving a lot of stuff, which would almost certainly require a smaller battery, though that might be compensated for by newer battery technology:

Much needed. If it happens it will definitely be the ultra wide lens. Disappointing that these newer designs/forms lack telephoto lens. Looks like it won’t be happening anytime soon.

I tried the air, I honestly thought being so thin, I wanted a larger screen. Therefore, it sounds like the one in 2027 will be the most interesting one with fewer compromises.

I will say, this current air is selling soooo bad..... I expect AT&T and other carriers to offer the $10.99 for 36 months type of deal on em come the holidays (no trade required).

Glad it seems like they’re going to continue the Air. I just hope they keep the weight the same because that’s what I like most about this phone.
I sincerely hope that Apple keeps this form factor and size. It’s the primary reason I bought the Air even though I already had the better equipped S25 Edge. A loyal Apple customer, I believe in their products.

If they incorporate the improvements they are more than capable of accomplishing, the second generation Air will be terrific. After owning nearly every iPhone model since the original I will certainly appreciate their achievement.

macro and wide angle is what is needed. Other Air limits are not so important and obvious compromises

For iphone air users i think not the second camera is a must..if they have to chose just one extra would be the stereo speakers, second place would be better battery and last second camera
Very few people needs stereo speakers and use AirPods/HomePod/External speakers/Headset… battery is good considering Air’s sizes. Instead macro and ultrawide photos are used weekly by most

I’m obviously only one use case but the UW would be the thing I’d like in an air 2.

Other than that I love everything about my air. The battery is great and the speaker isn’t a thing for me (though yes I realise stereo would still be better).

I do feel the reason for rumoured low sales is down to unfair perception.

It's certainly going to require a significant redesign to squeeze in a second camera which I can't see them doing after a year anyway

Some people. Not all people. Give me thin.
Me too. I'd rather be thin than short 😉.
I'm actually glad I got the 1st-gen Air if the rumors about the ultrawide are true. I never shot the ultrawide as it takes too long to correct the distortion in post-processing. And the philosophy of the Air is all about not carrying excess baggage. Carrying around a camera I never use is excess baggage.

This is why I think if Apple DOES build a second-generation iPhone Air expect a larger camera plateau to accommodate the second sensor and more phone circuitry.

A new iPhone mini doesn’t have to be as small as the original. It would only have to be mini in comparison to the current lineup. They could use a 5.8 inch (vs 5.4) screen like on the iPhone X but with thinner bezels and flat sides it would still be smaller than the iPhone X. Another option would be to use a 6 inch screen and have it the same size as the iPhone X.

I mean, that’s probably what they would do t’were they to intro a “smaller” iPhone, but my hands still ain’t getting any bigger. In fact, I’d like this 12 mini to be about an inch shorter for easier one handed operation— my ideal iPhone would be the screen of an iPhone 6, 7, etc with the rounded corners and current design, but that ain’t happening. I hope they make something that’s not so crazy large though.
