2027 iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e to Get 9GB RAM and A20 Chip

Perhaps they will, but if they are using binned A19 Pro chips most have already been produced, and the order placed for the chip already likely factored in the Neo. In essence, Apple will have already paid for the RAM used in the next Neo.

Regarding pricing, that argument doesn’t really make much sense, considering they’ve already raised the price of the 8 GB MacBook Neo with the older A18 Pro.

This is why they've got away with being cheap and skimping on RAM for years because of "fans" making up excuses.

You've convinced yourself that owning Apple products makes you somehow superior and knowledgeable but your post voids that.

9GB of RAM over 8GB.

Might as well not bother.

To me it sounds like Apple is now going to use Apple Intelligence to build a bigger gap between the standard and pro models.

Basic iPhone standard AI, Pro and Ultra best AI.

So to everyone out there who bought a standard 17.

Please enjoy it.

You’ve got the best value for money on a standard model for a long time!

Will this 9 GB actually be cheaper to produce than the previous 8 GB because of the 1.5 GB modules? I bet apple is buying piles of defective "scrap" RAM, fusing off some defective capacity, and then re-packaging into 9 GB packages. Genius. They will still likely raise prices though.

It is possible this is due to design changes to make use of faster memory with the 1.5 GB die size across the A20 series.

A20 = 6 x 1.5 GB = 9 GB
A20 Pro = 8 x 1.5 GB = 12 GB

According to various chip guys, it may still be LPDDR5X, but this new 9 GB configuration and the new updated 12 GB configuration enable faster memory. This would provide a significant bandwidth boost to both the non-Pro and Pro iPhones.

So called Leaks are the absolute worst thing to happen with technology. Everybody wants to be first. I miss the days that I was surprised by watching the keynote.

Apple yesterday raised prices across its Mac and iPad lines, but iPhone 17 pricing hasn't gone up. Apple will likely implement price hikes when the iPhone 18 Pro models come out, and since Apple raised the cost of even the low-end iPad and the MacBook Neo, the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e probably won't be exempt from an increase.

I find everyone’s confusion confusing.. 6x2=12GB macrumors already did the math. That’s for the high end max ai capable iPhone. During the manufacturing process there will be failures. But, the chips won’t be entirely defective. Just like some CPU’s that need to be run at lower frequencies. Also, some chips run fine with less cores enabled (When some number of cores don’t pass testing). Why throw out memory chips that don’t meet spec ? If the 2GB chip is functional at 1.5GB run it at that. 6x1.5=9GB. It’s not a shocking development. More memory is obviously better for ai but many (ai) things will run just fine with 9GB.

Sounds minor. The 17 was the main star of the iPhone 17, Air, 17 Pro series. The most bang for buck. I like my 17 Pro Max, but given the new price increases, it's hard to justify a rumored starting price of $1399 for 256 GB Pro Max iPhone.

You are indeed confused. These are not defective 2 GB dies. These are native 1.5 GB dies.

All iPhones should have the full Apple Intelligence experience just as all Google Pixel devices should have the full Gemini AI experience, not a nano version. As expensive as these devices are they should have the full AI experience.

Would not be surprised if a lot of cell phone makers especially the cheaper brands do this to save money...but in this case I wouldn't think they would but when it comes to making $$ ya never know

As mentioned before, 9 GB RAM would likely bring a memory speed boost over 8 GB due to different memory speed specs.

That's one reason Apple went with 18 GB RAM in the MacBook Pro instead of 16 GB RAM. ie. This is not new.

An analogous number would be something like 288 GB, not 259 GB.

I currently have a 14 and just ordered the 17 before the insanity starts to affect the iPhone line. I really didn't need to upgrade but figured I should before prices go nuts and this should keep me good for another 3-4 years.

4-5 years for us. My wife has the 14 Pro Max, but will wait for the 19 Pro Max. The 17 Pro replaced my 12 Pro Max last year.

P.S. I had the 17 Pro Max for a week, but just found it too big, noticeably bigger than the 12 Pro Max. I had already thought the 12 Pro Max was a bit big, but the 17 Pro Max pushed it over the edge.
