An all screen iPhone makes war more sense than a foldable for most people. It would be functional, robust, reliable.

A solid monolith with wireless charging, capacitive buttons, no ports. A phone designed to be tough, functional and aesthetically beautiful.

Remove the selfie camera. Problem solved.

Of course that’ll never happen because so many people feel the world revolves around them. They have to constantly take pictures of themselves.
While I do agree with you, it can also be used for meetings and calls
But if you have no friends or colleagues to call then that camera should go. I've also used my selfie camera as a mirror to check if I chipped a tooth or other such things.

I would want the option to buy one with or without it -- or at least have a built in cover or something.

Yes, the phone call of the future. I remember it well in the old movies where everyone was making video calls with their friends in the future. Now we’re here if people don’t even want to talk. Just send me a text message 😂

I guess it depends on your friends, but none of mine use video. The last time I made a FaceTime call was because I was in a grocery store looking for a specific item. I wasn’t using the selfie camera but the regular camera so they could point it out for me.

I have friends, but none of them choose to use video calling. I think if I called any of them on video they would wonder what the heck is going on.

I can see it for checking a chipped tooth, if you have something on your face or maybe even to comb your hair.

I haven’t used the selfie camera other than for Face ID, of course in years. I would say make an option, but it’s probably not worth carrying two SKUs for every model.

I've mostly used video calls to show some relatives some home improvements or some interesting event happening near me (they don't live near me). And yes, at the grocery store to ask my wife if I was buying the right type of something. Some people use their phones for telehealth doctor appointments

I am on an iPhone XR and I am kind-of waiting for the "next" iPhone, the one I've been waiting for (I am not buying new phones very often) but the last years, nothing really entices me.

My co-worker bought an iPhone XR shortly after me and recently upgraded to an iPhone 16 Pro.
His verdict is more or less "Nice, a bit faster, better camera."

I guess it doesn't help that don't like the colors of the current iPhones. Or rather the lack of colors.

It will probably be the 25th or 30th anniversary iPhone that gets that all screen front… 😉

Edge-to-edge = no bezels, and a case creates its own border around the display, taking away the effect.
Agreed. I think an incredibly durable iPhone where you don’t have to use a case plus incredibly battery life is more important to me than an all display iPhone.

But then I’ve simply never been bothered by the notch on the iPhone or the MacBook.

I wonder why the article's render depicts sort of the opposite of the subject that it's referring to. The render has today's iPhone bezel, so it's not an all-screen design. Placing the selfie and Face ID cameras under the display isn't the only design change that makes the display all-screen.

"Will Reportedly" and "Reportedly Will" sounds pretty much deceiving.

Yes, MacRumors will eventually reporting it somehow sometime in the future.

yeah i find this rumour highly unlikely. Apple normally take longer than other android brands to bring out new tech yet this is coming out within two years? so face ID as it is now to removing it all? seems abit unlikely.

if apple has it then so will others

…and ID. Apart from using face ID to unlock the phone, my banking app requires a selfie sometimes, and I’ve had to use various ID verification apps for “know your client” ID theatre.

Easy solution: don’t use a case. I’m not sure why people still buy cases. In the past, they were a necessity. Phone bodies were made from weaker materials. I haven’t used a case for the past 3 generations of phones. I drop my iPhone 16 Pro Max all the time without issue, even face down on concrete. While I’m sure it can shatter if it falls just right, screen replacements are easy and cheap. It just doesn’t seem worth it (to me) to use a case. Extra weight and such for minimal gains.
Seconded. I’ve never had a case on my 13 pro. I’ve dropped it a fair few times, also face down. Honestly - there’s not a scratch on the thing.

(I’m fully aware that, by posting this, I’ll probably drop my phone today and cause irreparable damage)

I mean at this point I kind of consider my 16 pro an all screen design. What’s the extra 11mmx3mm removal of the Dynamic Island really going to give me in screen value?

Let's hope the under display camera tech will have been improved by then.

For many if not most people, a case is indeed not really necessary as added protection as the phones are this solid these days, but there actually are use cases where you really want a case. I work outdoors in rugged terrain and on the water. I not only want a case, but I want it to be able to attach a laneyard. I'm not accidentally gonna drop my $1000+ phone into the ocean. And yes, one can be as careful as one wants and 9 out of 10 times it will be fine... accidents are accidents because they're not expected.

That angle aside, cases also add customization, and considering the massive case market, there's a very large demographic for that.

Your "easy solution" sounds a whole lot like "You're holding it wrong".

Whatever they need to do to get rid of the BS “feature” that’s the dynamic Island.
Hey, but but… the additional information displayed there is only! possible thanks to the Dynamic Islands. Showing these small additional information won’t be possible with a regular display… oh wait 😆
