I seriously doubt that Apple will put the M1 into another model.

They could put it into an absolute bottomfeeder iMac (just like the current FullHD dualcore) and leave it there for a few years, just as I expect the current M1 offerings to not get an M2 when that comes around.

Speaking of which the recent news about TSMC starting A15 (closely related to M2) production soon, I do see the following possibility:

- cheap base 21 or 24" M1 iMac ships shortly after the event
- better M2 or even M2x models get demoed but won't ship soon (or maybe those will only be announced at WWDC)

I know how this is gonna Go
Attractive low price. Low End Apple silicon with low memory Capacity for most redesigned iMacs
Because that is what most people are gonna buy

Then High End iMacs with Better Apple silicon and more memory for the APPLE FAN BOYS with their BIG WALLETS.
Because APPLE knows the Die Hard APPLE FAN BOYS will shell out major cash for an overpriced High End iMac like the iMac Pro was.

I hope this doesn't mean that the smaller iMac will get the M1 and only the larger one will get the faster Pro chip
There will surely be one model of iMac with the M1 chip.
But I believe it will be possible to have a 24-inch iMac with either an M1 chip or M1X too.

I dunno about the others but I use my Peepers. 21” has the benefit of being ideal size for 4K at good ppi.

adopting 24” means either a weird resolution or a significantly worse PPI.
Apple hasn't seemed to show any compunction in introducing weird resolutions in the past. I'd be very surprised if they kept the same resolution on a larger screen.

Doesn't need to mean anything. Same thing happened last year in June with iMac 27" and people were sure new iMacs were coming but it took until Aug before the new ones came.

They ship the current model with an i3.

I expect to see a whole range of options in time, segmenting the market earns them a lot of money.

Intel have already called time on the Coffee Lake processors in the 2018 Mac mini - last product is due to be shipping on June 4 2021.

This suggests to me that Apple could be releasing an M1X based Mini to completely replace that by late summer this year at the latest which will come as no surprise to anyone.

These same CPUs are used in the 21.5" 4k retina iMac which were last refreshed in 2019 which also points to a refresh. Ironically, the I5-7360U in the non retina iMac is hanging on as Intel mobile CPUs last longer.

If Apple are releasing 2 models of iMac, perhaps they mean 2 different SoCs rather than 2 different screen sizes:

M1 for budget end (see the current releases of the MBA, Mac mini, and MBP low end)

The M1X would be for higher SKUs - Mac mini top SKUs, MBP 14" and 16" all with 4 Thunderbolt ports and more cores, better graphics.

Where does it leave the iMac though?

Would Apple do 2 versions of the iMac, lower 2 SKUs with M1 and 2 Thunderbolt ports, upper 2 SKUs with M1X and 4 Thunderbolt ports? Both with 24" 4.6K screen?

If Apple bring us higher end SKUs of the Mac mini they could make those space grey only to contrast with the current M1 minis. They could do the same with 4 SKUs of iMac - silver for M1, space grey for M1X.

Leave a single 27" high spec Intel model around to tide over users until an iMac Pro comes along later perhaps?

I'm sure the M1 CPU/GPU combo could drive a 24" 4.6K display. Apple could easily leave the Intel 27" till October when they release their larger screen model with a suitable M1X CPU and powerful enough GPU to put the pixels. This is why I think the 27" ARM successor is going to be labelled an iMac Pro.
It runs my 5k Ultrafine. It also runs the 6k XDR.

Would be amazing if they released both sizes but looks like going to have to wait until the end of year for the larger one.
Considering how this is a redesign I would think they'd prefer to release it in both sizes at the same time, which is why I'm hesitant to believe it's coming out just yet. My guess is that it'll be unveiled at WWDC with a potential fall release.

But you, on the other hand, are above it all with your home-assembled Windows PC. No overpriced Apple gear for you, right?
