This is a no brainer, just ordered one. My wife has been after an iphone for a while, after using mine actually. But she doesn't agree with paying for a handset, she always gets the free nokias etc that are on offer in the UK.

I've had this shipped to our USA address and will bring it back to the UK when I'm next over..., she can sign up into a new contract as her current one has just finished, get a free nokia N85/95, sell it and it will more than cover the iphone.

Result, thanks for the info

How can you tell if your phone is a refurb?

any markings on the phone itself, or does it state so within the settings of the phone?

what stops ppl from reselling these at the full retail price

i believe it's the part number that differs.
new iphone MA712LL/A
refurb iphone FA712LL/A

someone correct me if i'm wrong

as for reselling at retail price... hopefully the buyer is educated.

Can it be used w/o activating?

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, but ...

I've been waiting to get an iPhone till I move to NYC later this year (AT&T coverage isn't great where I currently live), but this price seems too good to pass up. Can I use the iPhone as an iPod without activating the phone or is it useless until the phone is activated?

Anyone want to buy me one and ship it to Canada. I'd pay. Sorry if this against the rules, if it is let me know and delete the post

I didn't purchase my refurbished iPhone online - I went to my local AT&T store instead - but I wanted to take a moment to thank the iPhone Forum for bringing the refurbished iPhones to my attention. I was on the fence about whether or not to buy an iPhone and this deal was just what I needed. I never would have learned about it had it not been for this forum. And now I have an iPhone and I'm loving it!

Really looking forward to the software upgrade and all the new programs that will be coming out. And if the 3G iPhone comes out later this year, I won't feel so bad replacing my phone considering I only spent $249 for it.

The iPhone is truly a remarkable device. If you're reading this and thinking about buying one, go for it!

Lol! So I just bought my iphone yesterday for full price and now today I see refurbs for $150 less... I hate my life...

Lord you should RETURN IT! asap! thats 150 extra dollaroos you could have in your pocket!

Thats what I'm thinking. Then again isnt there a restocking fee at apple stores when you return stuff?

This post is basically how I feel too. I was on the fence about waiting, but at $250 I just pulled the trigger and will try to use it on T-Mobile. If 3G comes out soon I can sell this one if need be, plus there is no gaurantee that the 3G phone will work on TMobile as I've read that the spectrums are different.

Sold!

I was on the fence about spending $400 for a new 8gb iPhone but I couldn't resist one for $249. I ordered mine this morning - $249 no sales tax and no delivery charge for 2-day priority shipping.

Dang... Just ordered a refurb through apple a couple of weeks ago.. oh well.. $250 is a steal... got one.

Refurb 8GB iPhone for $249 from AT&T

AT&T is now offering refurbished 8GB iPhones online for only $249. They require a 2 year contract, and a limit of 1 per customer.

There had been rumors of this deal at select retail AT&T stores, but this is the first we've seen it offered online.

$249 for an 8GB Refurbished iPhone represents a significant savings. A new 8GB iPhone currently retails for $399.

Ok I'm interested in this but what I wonder is.

Are these iPhones scratched or something? Or are they just good as new, inside the same and the outer case replaced?

If they are as good as new I might buy one:D

Refurb iphones are returned products that were either defective or no longer wanted by the owner (opened gift etc). Apple then meticulously inspects each iphone inside and out and replaces any parts that no longer work or are damaged.

In a sense they will look/act brand new. Some people actually prefer refurbs because they are more closely inspected then regular products coming off the line. In a sense they feel they are less likely to have a faulty product because of the rigorous inspection refurbs undergo.

bought 1 yesterday

I bought an 8gb yesterday. You do not need a contract to get the iphone. Just tell them you just want the phone, not contract. I told them I was buying as a present. Several people over at slickdeals.net have bought over the last week successfully without a contract.

P.S. they also have the 4GB for $199

Two-year activation NOT required

I just bought an 8 GB iphone on wireless.att.com, and I didn't have to sign a contract. The website just says they you will be required to sign a contract when you activate through iTunes when you receive your phone with free 2-day shipping for $249 flat.

They only have 8 GB online as of right now. Maybe they'll add the 4's later? Who knows. You can't beat that price though.

Also, the only personal info I had to type in was my name, address, home phone and credit card. They didn't ask for a SSN or other info usually required when you sign a contract online. Hence, no contract signed until you activate through iTunes.

EVERYONE NEEDS AN IPHONE!!!
:apple:

Are you guys sure AT&T won't force you into some contract after receiving the phone? They got all your details and stuff... I don't want to panic I just thought this is a different situation then simply walking into an AT&T store and purchasing it without registering. What do you think?
