$249 refurbished iPhones

Are you guys sure AT&T won't force you into some contract after receiving the phone? They got all your details and stuff... I don't want to panic I just thought this is a different situation then simply walking into an AT&T store and purchasing it without registering. What do you think?

pretty sure AT&T wont force you to sign a contract. when you purchase from the apple store they have your info if paid with a credit card. on the other hand if you go to a AT&T store they might trick you into signing a contract. but in reality the iphone sales are different because the only discount you'll get is refurbished ones, there are no rebates. but feel free to disagree.

Ordered mine. Wonder how many they have. I waited until the local ATT store was open, not until 10am, to find they don't have them in that store, at least. Was worried that they might be out by the time I got around to it, but the order went thru.

3G won't be available around here for ages, and I don't need to download all that much on the road anyway. My wife loves the idea of carrying baby photos and such.

Couldn't they also be floor models previously on display in stores?

That would fall under "no longer wanted by owner."

I've bought refurbed ipods and I always recommend refurbs. Spending less for the same product is always a plus.

Scratched?

Does any one know if these could have scratches on the screen or not? I don't want to get one that is all scratched up. Hint??

I have bought many Apple refurbs, and save for the refurb packaging, they are otherwise perfect. You should not worry about getting a sub-standard product. They are NOT display models.

I just bought one for the wife. She has been wanting one since they first came out. This offer is too good to pass up (until apple drops prices) if you are in the market for an iPhone.

Regards,

So why is AT&T selling 8GB refurbs for $249 and Apple is selling them for $349? Are the AT&T refurbs the same refurbs as Apple's? Will Apple be dropping their price as well?

$199 for a 4GB is a great deal - that starts putting the iPhone into many, many more users hands! Keep the price drops coming! :D

Did anyone manage to get more then one phone? And how do you do that? Would a different name / address be enough? Or does it need another credit card?

Regards,
Felix

i got one

I got a 8gb for $250 yesterday from a AT&T physical store. Its as good as a new one, no scratches, in perfect shape.. all the accessories are included. 14 day return policy + 1 year Warranty.

Edit: not a display model, they have few more in stock, comes in standard AT&T box, not apple one.

This may be a minor confirmation of rumors that Apple will drop the price by $100 in the near future. It would be great if Apple introduced a 32GB model with 3G at the same time. But maybe they're saving that for June.

when did at&t post this? could this be a hint at a price drop and possibly an upgrade to a 32gb model in the near future?

The day the iphone price drops to $299 i'm on my way to the states to get one.

*Requires 2-year plan, ordered during activation process. Limit one per customer.

think i might pick one up for my gf... since i can just ditch the new sim they send and put hers in... then not sign the contract... or do you think they will charge me after so many days/months of not "activating"?

Price drop to $299 is unlikely. More likely is the TEMPORARY price drop to $299 to get rid of the new 8 Gig phones (like they did with the 4 Gig ones). The 16 Gig will be the mainstream, $399 one...

what about warranty on refurbs?

It does seem like a no-brainer. There's no way for AT&T to bill us for a plan later when they discover that we havne't activated through AT&T, is there? I checked the "Terms & Conditions" document, and although it states that "*All plans require a 2-year AT&T service agreement, an activation fee, and are subject to AT&T credit approval," it doesn't actually state that one must buy a plan with the phone! ;)

One other thing: I asked about the warranty, and the AT&T representative (they're idiots!) claimed that the refurbs wouldn't carry a full one-year warranty but rather the amount of time left on the warranty since the date when the iPhone was originally purchased.

Has anyone else asked about this? Confirm?

to unlock, what's better... ziphone or iplus?

I used ziphone on the last phone I unlocked (my friend's iPhone).

I plan on using it on this refurbished one - I'm paranoid that the phone I've got is going to get lost/stolen/broken.

I plan on having this as a backup (I can go to T-Mobile for a replacement SIM).

It only has to last until 2011 - when AT&T is no longer exclusive in the US, and the obvious other carrier to start carrying it is T-Mobile...

If you buy ANY iPhone, that's the agreement on the box. Activation through AT&T.

They may not have the full 1 year, but are eligible for Apple Care.

You can check the item's warranty status here (for anything Apple):

https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

If you unlock or jailbreak the phone, warranty is void anyways...

EDIT: I tried the above link with my iPhone - Apple says it's "Not Activated". I guess that's right - no warranty until activation...
